Chrome Industries have launched a photo contest, entitled “‘I’m A McKenzie, You’re A McKenzie”. Interested photographers are invited to visit and “like” the Facebook fan page of Chrome Bags, and email a picture of a friend that most closely resembles Bob or Doug McKenzie from the film, ‘Strange Brew’. “We’re talking winter truck stop beanies, hunting caps, flannel and charm,” says Corinne Avganim of Chrome Industries. The submission deadline is Thursday, 15th December, and the main prize is a Nikon D300 and a Chrome Niko pro camera bag.

Adobe has issued the call for entries for the 12th annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The competition recognises the best student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from higher education institutions worldwide who have created innovative projects using Adobe software. Free to enter, the 2012 ADAA will be judged by a panel of international design experts in three independent judging sessions. Submission deadlines are 27 January, 27 April, and 22 June 2012.

The World Photography Organisation today issued a last call for entries for the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards, billed as “the world’s most comprehensive photography competition”. The awards include a Professional competition, which invites entries from the world’s leading photographers and ‘serious enthusiasts’, and an Open competition for everyone with an interest in photography. For the 2012 awards, a ‘Nature & Wildlife’ category has been introduced to the Professional competition and there are no less than three new categories in the Open competition including ‘Enhanced’, ‘Split Second’ and ‘Low-light’. The winners of the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year 2011 competition have been announced. The overall winner is Spanish Photographer Oriol Jolonch, who also won the Golden Camera 2011 award in the Illustrative category, whilst the Young European Professional Photographer of the Year 2011 title has been awarded to Luca Leon Fasching of Austria.

X-Rite has announced the December theme for its Colour Perfectionists Unite photo contest. The theme is “Celebrating Family” and the deadline for entries is 15th December. The fast-paced, glamorous world of motorsport is one of the most exciting and challenging environments for a professional photographer.
Autosport International, the world’s greatest motorsport show, is offering one Photography Blog reader the unique opportunity to experience this thrill first-hand through its inaugural Amateur Motorsport Photographer competition.
The contest is open to any amateur photographer over 18 years old, who is invited to submit an original image on the theme of Motorsport. The winning entry will be selected by a panel of experts to receive a money-can’t-buy prize: photography accreditation for the world-renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The judging panel will feature a professional photographer from LAT Photographic, the largest motoring and motorsport photographic collection in the world, Photography Blog’s editor Mark Goldstein and representatives from Goodwood circuit and Autosport magazine.

Low Cost Holidays have announced a 12 day marathon photo competition entitled, “Smiley’s 12 Days of Christmas”. Hosted on their Facebook page, the competition begins at 12pm on 12th December. The organisers will be setting 12 photo challenges over the 12 days leading up to Christmas and will be giving away 12 different prizes. The 155th International Print competition is open to all photographers and includes a special award for under 25 year olds. The contest’s sponsor, Allen & Overy, is awarding a £1000 prize for the best photograph on the theme of ‘Change’. SeaWeb’s Marine Photobank has announced the winners of the fourth annual Ocean in Focus conservation photography contest. The grand prize is awarded to Terry Goss, of San Francisco, for his photograph of a blue shark off the coast of Rhode Island with a rusted hook protruding from its lower jaw (above). This photo has earned Goss a 10-day, two person expedition to the Galapagos Islands with Lindblad Expeditions, the expedition travel company that voyages the world in alliance with the National Geographic Society. The runner-up for the Ocean in Focus contest is Peri Paleracio of Quezon City, the Philippines, for his picture of a boat in the Philippines with plastic and trash pollution suspended in the water. For the runner-up photograph, Paleracio has received a 7-night dive vacation at Matava, Fiji’s Premiere Eco Adventure Resort.

The “Best Shots” competition is now open for entries and photo submissions will be accepted until 23 December. Entrants can submit one photo in each of four categories: people, travel, pets and cell phone shots. A slate of expert judges will select the finalists, and winners will be determined by an online popular vote running from 9-12 January 2012. The grand prize winner, to be announced on 13 January at the 2012 International CES, will receive a Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera kit.
