Connie Smyth, aged 15 years, has been announced as the overall winner of the London Legacy 2020 Photo Awards. She impressed the judges with her picture ‘rust’, an “eerily beautiful” shot of a lamppost beneath railway arches in London Fields.As a reward for her efforts, she won £1,000 worth of camera equipment including a digital SLR, as well as the opportunity to carry out a photo-shoot with the English National Ballet, courtesy of City law firm CMS Cameron McKenna.

The AOP Students Awards 2012 competition is now accepting submissions. Entry is open to photography students studying a BTEC HND or higher within the UK. Each entrant can submit an unlimited number of photos but do note that entry fees apply. The submission deadline is 27 January 2012. MobiTog has issued a call for entries for the first International iPhoneography Show. Pictures may be taken with “any digital device” but must be edited with MacPhun’s FX Photo Studio app and submitted either via email or the special submit form on event’s website. The best 100 images will be displayed at a touring exhibition in different parts of the world. The first exhibition will be organised in New York from 16-22 December, and hosted by one of the most popular galleries – Soho Gallery for Digital Art. Every artist whose picture will be chosen for the exhibition gets a special Thank You package from the event partners, including software, hardware, special deals and discounts on iPhoneography gear. The best picture, chosen by online voting, will be awarded with a $100 Apple Gift Card and the artist whose picture is voted best by visitors of the exhibition will receive a $500 Apple Gift Card. Stephen Webb has been crowned RHS Photographer of the Year 2011. Stephen took the prestigious title and a cheque for £1,000 after capturing this spectacular image of a carpet of crocuses in the early evening light. Charity Technology Trust (CTT) is celebrating its ten-year anniversary by organising a photography competition open exclusively to people working at charities. The competition, entitled ‘A Day in the Life’, invites entrants to share their stories and capture what a day in the life of their charity means by submitting a snapshot. Entrants need to email their pictures, along with their name, their charity’s name and a brief description or caption for each photo to [email protected], no later than Friday 11th November 2011: Do note that by submitting images, entrants are permitting CTT to use the photos for future marketing activities.

X-Rite has announced the November theme for its Colour Perfectionists Unite photo contest. The theme is “Landscapes” and the deadline for entries is 15th November. The winner will be featured on the X-Rite Photo blog and will receive one of X-Rite’s new display solutions – either a ColourMunki Display or an i1Display Pro – and a ColourChecker Passport (pictured). Adobe today announced the winners of its 11th annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The awards honour the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from higher education institutions worldwide who have created individual or group projects with Adobe software. The winner of the photography category is Ryan LeCluyse from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Winning entries can be viewed at the ADAA Gallery, along with the entries of the finalists from 2011 and prior years.

The Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP) has announced the category winners of its 2011 competition. The “Golden Camera” winners include René de Brunn (Commercial), Oriol Jolonch (Illustrative), Ondrej Prosicky (Landscape), Igor Sakharov (Portrait), Antonio Gibotta (Reportage) and Javier Avis Barrado (Wedding). The FEP International Photographers’ Golden Camera 2011 award goes to Soh Chee Loon Jericho from Singapore, while the winner of the FEP European Students and Young Photographers’ Golden Camera 2011 award is Luca Leon Fasching from Austria. The overall winner of the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year 2011 award will be unveiled at a ceremony held on November 26th in the prestigious gallery of the Silken Hotel, Brussels.

Jessops has teamed up with The Mob Film Company to launch a short film competition. Using nothing but a digital camera’s movie function, participants must produce a ten-minute film entitled, “The Shot”. The competition, which runs until early next year, is open to everyone in the UK and offers one lucky winner an all-expenses paid trip to spend the day with Paul WS Anderson on the set of his latest movie. The 2012 Fujifilm Student Photography Awards are now open and accepting entries. The Awards are open to all students aged 16 or over undertaking full or part-time professional photographic training, or full or part-time graphic design training of which photography is a major part at a UK based college or university. The theme for 2012 is ‘Extreme’ with students being briefed to capture the meaning of that word in a single image. EEF is reminding interested photographers that the deadline for entries for its photo contest is 31st October. The EEF Heroes of Modern UK Manufacturing Photography Competition, now in its second year, aims to capture the people, products, places and processes that make UK manufacturing great. There are separate categories for professionals, amateurs and young people aged 14-19. Canon is providing prize vouchers for £5000 worth of photography equipment, which will be shared among the winners. Entry is free via the EEF website.

The Opposite House, Beijing and The Upper House, Hong Kong have collaborated with Leica, commissioning four local photographers to photograph the hotels with the themes of “Beijing Opposites” and “Hong Kong Views” from the Top, using a Leica camera of their choice. The result is a diverse and eclectic mix of new perspectives on the Houses, seen through the lenses of different Leica cameras (film and digital). A photography contest focused on the same themes has also been announced to photographers worldwide, with the deadline for entries being 30th October. Prizes include a Grand Prize (a Leica X1), a First Prize for Hong Kong (a Leica D-LUX 5) and a First Prize for Beijing (also a Leica D-LUX 5). The runner-up prize for Hong Kong is a one-night stay in a suite at The Upper House, and the runner-up prize for Beijing is a one-night stay in a suite at The Opposite House.
