Canon has added two new CanoScan LiDE Color Image Scanners to its product line-up.  The new Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 and LiDE 110 scanners feature maximum optical resolutions of 4800x4800dpi and 2400x4800dpi, respectively. “When the time comes to archive memorable photos or important documents, consumers need to be confident that the finished product will be of high image quality when compared to that of the original,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. “These two new CanoScan scanner models deliver not only great results but show Canon’s commitment to providing products which are energy efficient.”  The estimated selling price for both of these Energy Star Compliant colour image scanners is $89.99 for the LiDE210 and $59.99 for the LiDE110.

Update: As of 19th August 2010, the CanoScan LiDE 110 and 210 are also announced in Europe. They are priced at £75/€89 and £95/€109, respectively, and available from September 2010.

Hama has unveiled a portable standalone photo scanner that scans prints up to 10x15cm in size, and saves the results on SD cards. The scanning resolution is 300 dots per inch, the colour depth is 24 bits, and the digitised images are saved in JPEG format. The scanner can be connected to a digital frame using the supplied USB cable. The device is available from Hama at an SRP of €77.

Pandigital has announced that it has expanded its line of photo scanners with a new model – the Pandigital Personal Photo Scanner/Converter – that can scan print photos up to 8.5x11” large. Requiring no PC to convert print photos into digital images, the Pandigital Personal Photo Scanner/Converter is a standalone device that scans photos at at 600 dpi onto the included SD memory card at the touch of a button. The Epson Perfection V330 Photo is a new all-purpose, 4800x9600dpi photo scanner with a built-in transparency unit that enables it to scan slides and negatives. The Perfection V330 comes with Epson’s ReadyScan and Easy Photo Fix technologies on board, and features four customisable buttons for convenient one-touch scanning, copying, scan-to-email, and creating PDFs. Also introduced today is the new Epson Perfection V33, a scanner that is almost identical to the V330 except that it lacks the built-in transparency unit. Today Canon launched the CanoScan 9000F, a 9600dpi photo and document scanner that is also capable of scanning a range of film formats. In addition to a hardware resolution of 9600x9600dpi, the CanoScan 9000F also boasts a colour depth of 48 bits and improved scanning times. Capable of digitising both mounted 35mm slides and film strips in 35mm and 120 format, the CanoScan 9000F comes with Canon’s Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement (FARE) Level 3 technology on board for removing dust and scratches using infrared light. The bundled software package includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, ArcSoft PhotoStudio and LaserSoft’s SilverFast SE. The CanoScan 9000F will be available from June 2010 priced at £229.00 / €240.00 / $249.99.

Plustek is showing off its newest products, including its latest 35mm film scanner, at CES 2010. The film scanner in question is the recently launched Plustek OpticFilm 7600i (pictured)  dual-platform film scanner for both PC and Mac users, which boasts an optical resolution of 7200x7200dpi, an infrared channel for hardware-based dust and scratch removal, and a new white LED light source for more vivid results and precise colour rendering. Other Plustek products on display at CES include the MobileOffice D428 a duplex colour scanner and the MobileOffice D450, an the MobileOffice D428 ($349), a Windows 7-ready duplex color scanner capable of scanning items up to credit card-thick, the MobileOffice D450.

Reflecta GmbH has announced the Reflecta x4-Scan - a fast, mobile, battery operated standalone 35mm film scanner. The new x4-Scan offers a 2,4” LCD Display, an integrated SD/SDHC card slot and a lithium-ion battery to allow using the scanner completely independent from a PC or mains supply. The Reflecta x4-Scan can be used to digitise both film strips and mounted slides. It takes two seconds to scan a frame, and the resultant digital photographs have a resolution of 5 megapixels. The scanner is available at a price of €139 including VAT.

Pandigital today announced the addition of two new portable photo scanners to its PhotoLink line. The new Pandigital PhotoLink One-Touch 5x7 Scanner allows consumers to scan 5x7-inch (13x18cm, or smaller) traditional prints onto a memory card or directly to a PC. The Pandigital PhotoLink Personal Photo Scanner (see picture above) enables consumers to digitise slides, negatives and smaller prints. The digitised photos have a resolution of 1800x1200 pixels. Both scanners can output the files onto a variety of memory cards, and both come complete with a 512-megabyte SD card. The PhotoLink One-Touch 5x7 Scanner has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $129.99 and is available now at various retail locations. The PhotoLink Personal Photo Scanner also has an MSRP of $129.99 and is available exclusively on QVC through December 5, 2009.

Plustek’s new, high-resolution dedicated 35mm film scanners are now available from Jessops. The Plustek OpticFilm 7400 and the Plustek OpticFilm 7600i are the successors of the OpticFilm 7300 and 7500i (read review), respectively. Both feature 7200x7200dpi hardware resolution, multisampling, software-based smart removal of defect and auto adaptive contrast optimisation. Additionally, the OpticFilm 7600i has an infrared channel for hardware-based dust and scratch removal. Both scanners boast a new white LED light source for more vivid results and precise colour rendering. The OpticFilm 7400 comes bundled with SilverFast SE Plus, whereas the OpticFilm 7600i can be bought with either SilverFast 6.6 SE Plus (Multi-Exposure) or SilverFast 6.6 AI Studio.IT8 (Multi-Exposure), the latter of which offers fully automated IT8 calibration. RCP-Technik GmbH has announced three new Rollei branded photo / slide scanners. The first photo scanner from Rollei, the P-S 100 (pictured), has been designed to digitise photographic prints of popular sizes like 9x13cm, 10x15cm (4x6”) and 13x18cm (5x7”). The Rollei DF-S 110 and DF-S 100 models are slide scanners, whose claim to fame is that they can digitise mounted 35mm slides very quickly. All of these scanners appear to have a 5-megapixel CMOS type area-array sensor inside, which is responsible for the fast scan speeds. The P-S 100 and the DF-S 110 can also output interpolated 5184x3360-pixel scans. These two models cost €149.95, while the Rollei DF-S 100 will be available for €129.95 RRP.

Epson America today announced the Epson Perfection V500 Office scanner that effortlessly combines the productivity features of a document scanner and the image quality of a photo scanner into a compact package. The Epson Perfection V500 Office inherits some of the features, functions and characteristics of the existing Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner, such as a resolution of 6300dpi, a transparency unit for film scanning and Digital ICE Technology for dust and scratch removal in film scans. What the new scanner adds is a 30-page automatic document feeder with scan speeds of up to three pages per minute, which makes for quick document scanning and thus for certain users eliminates the need for separate document and photo scanners. The Epson Perfection V500 Office will be available in September 2009 for an estimated street price of $350.

Plustek has released the new Plustek OpticFilm 7600i dedicated 35mm film scanner, which boasts an optical resolution of 7200x7200dpi, an infrared channel for hardware-based dust and scratch removal, and a new white LED light source for more vivid results and precise colour rendering. The Plustek OpticFilm 7600i offers 48-bit scanning, a dMax of 3.5, a fast preview time of around 8 seconds and USB 2.0 connectivity via a supplied USB cable. The scanner weighs in at just 1.6kg and comes with a carry bag and two film holders; one for film strips of up to six frames, and one for up to four mounted slides. The Plustek OpticFilm 7600i is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS 10.3.9 and higher. The SE version comes bundled with SilverFast 6.6 SE Plus Multi-Exposure, while the AI variant ships with SilverFast 6.6 AI Studio IT8 Multi-Exposure and comes with a free IT8 calibration target.

The Plustek OpticFilm 7600i is already listed by some European online retailers, who quote around €270-300 for the SE version and up to €450 for the AI variant. In the U.S.A. the OpticFilm 7600i has not been released yet.

EU3C Company Ltd. announced that the company has officially been granted patents in both Japan and Taiwan on its proprietary standalone film scanning technology. EU3C has patents pending for the Standalone Film Scanner in the USA, the European Union, South Korea and China as well. EU3C’s standalone Filmscan II has been available since November 2008. It incorporates a 5 million pixel CMOS array sensor and a 2.4” TFT LCD display, and scans 35mm film at a resolution of 1800ppi, without the need to be connected to a computer.

Germany’s Reflecta GmbH have just announced the reflecta x³-Scan, successor to their budget x²-Scan 35mm film scanner. The new model boasts the same one-second-per-frame scanning speed and 1800ppi optical resolution as its immediate forebear, but adds a 2.4” LCD for immediate image review. Scanned images can be stored either in the 32-megabyte internal memory or on SD memory cards. You can hook the reflecta x³-Scan up directly to a television set via its TV-out port or a PC or Mac via USB - but it can also be used as a standalone device. The x³-Scan comes bundled with two film holders - one for up to 3 mounted slides and one for film strips of up to 6 six frames.
