Apple has released iPhoto 9.2. This update supports compatibility with iCloud and iOS 5 and addresses the following issues:

Left and right swipe gestures can now be used to navigate between photos in Magnify (1-up) view
Previously imported photos are now displayed in a separate section of the Import window
Book/calendar themes and card categories can now be selected using a pop-up menu in the carousel view
Resolves an issue that could cause some pages of books to print incorrectly
Rebuilding a library now correctly preserves saved slideshows and books

iDevelopersLab has recently released Camera PRO Nightshoot for iPad 2 and iPhone 4, an app that applies a “night shot” effect to photos taken during the daytime. Additionally, Camera PRO Nightshoot doubles as a photo editor featuring a range of adjustable effects. The app is available now on iTunes for $2.99 for the iPhone version and $4.99 for the iPad edition.

iDevelopersLab has announced Camera Z for iPad 2 and iPhone 4. Camera Z is a photography app that allows you to take photos and apply a range of effects to them. The effects can be previewed and adjusted before being applied separately or in combination with each other. Camera Z is available for $2.99 in the iTunes App Store.

PicBlitz Virtual Photo Manager is a fast, full-featured image viewer and organiser for Windows. Boasting instant search, mouse hovering, slide show, batch resize, brighten, rotate, colorize and quick rename functions, PicBlitz supports JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, ICO, and GIF formats as well as certain raw image files. Nik Software has released updates to HDR Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro 2. HDR Efex Pro 1.2001 is a Mac-only update that provides compatibility with OS X 10.7 Lion. Silver Efex Pro 2.002 is available for both Windows and Mac, and contains bug fixes as well as improvements to processing multiple images at a time in Lightroom and Aperture.

onOne Software has just announced a new version of Photo Essentials for Adobe Photoshop Elements. HP has announced the availability of free, downloadable software applications for the HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer series that enable professional photographers to generate large-format photo negatives for the production of high-quality, black and white silver halide photo prints. Available now, the Large Format Photo Negative software package includes a paper preset for the HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer series that allows photographers to print a digital negative from a film, scanned or digital capture file onto a transparent substrate. Once printed, these large-format photo negatives can be used as masters to produce high-quality black and white fine art prints through a contact process. The HP Large Format Photo Negative solution for silver and platinum processes will be shown on the Picto booth at Le Salon de la Photo, 6 -10 October, Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Paris.

At its MAX 2011 technology conference, Adobe unveiled Photoshop Touch, a new app for Android tablets running Honeycomb 3.1. “Adobe Photoshop Touch lets users transform images with core Photoshop features in an app custom-built for tablets,” the company says. “With simple finger gestures, users can combine multiple photos into layered images, make popular edits and apply professional effects… With Refine Edge technology from Adobe Photoshop, even hard-to-select areas with soft edges, such as hair, are easily captured when making selections.” The app will be available shortly, priced at $9.99. An iPad version is also in the making, although it will only be released after the Android variant.

Interealtime has launched a major update to its photography app for the Apple iPad 2, Camera Boost. Version 2 can now record video in HD, at full speed, with the ability to apply effects in real time, as the footage is being captured. For example, it is now possible to change colour balance and lighting contrast during recording, apply color filters or reduce image noise, plus use a range of advanced effects. Camera Boost 2 can be purchased from the iTunes App Store for $4.99.

Version 16.53 of PhotoLine is now available for download. Yahoo! has released the first official Flickr app for Android. You can take photos with the in-app camera module, enhance it with a selection of filters, then upload it directly to Flickr, and share it on Facebook or Twitter. Other highlights include geotagging, full-screen browsing and slideshows for your photos, your contacts’ photos or any of the public photos from the global Flickr community; and an array of organisational tools including titles, descriptions, comments and tags. Requiring Android 2.1 or later, the Flickr app is available as a free download from the Android Market.

MacPhun has released version 4 of FX Photo Studio HD for the Apple iPad. The new version introduces a Masking Studio feature that allows users to apply effects to selected parts of an image, a Colour Splash tool that lets you add colours selecctively, seven new effects including a 3D filter, and brings performance improvements that may result in up to 2x faster processing with certain filters. Adobe has released final versions of Lightroom 3.5 and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.5. Previously available as release candidates, these updates add support for a range of new cameras including the Nikon Coolpix P7100, Olympus E-PL3 and Sony SLT-A77 (pictured), among others. Lightroom 3.5 additionally includes a number of bug fixes.

Green Hills Software, an independent vendor of embedded software solutions, has announced that its compilers, Green Hills Probe and MULTI integrated development environment (IDE) have been used by Phase One in the development of the Phase One IQ series digital cameras. “An 80-megapixel sensor generates a vast amount of photographic data—the typical image size is almost 500 Mbytes—and Phase One needed its new digital camera to process and stream the data through multiple channels at the same time,” the company said. According to Søren Ilsøe, software architect, Phase One, “Green Hills Software was able to support the processors faster than any other vendor and made their compiler and MULTI IDE available to us at an early stage… Green Hills is a very professional partner and its technical team supported us in a smooth and efficient manner, allowing us to concentrate on delivering our application on schedule.”

Nik Software has released version 4 of its Color Efex Pro filter suite. Announced three weeks ago, Color Efex Pro 4 is now shipping. New effects include Detail Extractor, Vintage Film Efex, and Image Borders. The release also includes stackable filters, a new History Browser, improvements to imaging algorithms, greater performance, and enhanced usability. Cypress Innovations have released piRAWnha 3, a new version of the first app to enable raw processing on the iPad. piRAWnha features both raw developing and post?processing options, including exposure
compensation, white balance correction, highlight recovery, denoise operations, gamma correction, saturation?hue?brightness adjustments, high?quality contrast adjustments, sharpening and an image histogram that is updated with each edit. ACD Ssytems International has released ACDSee Pro 5 and ACDSee 14. ACDSee Pro 5 is billed as the most complete solution for the post-processing of digital photos, with functionality ranging from raw image development to editing features like dodging and burning, split toning and advanced sharpening.
