UK based JPY Consulting has announced that GeoPhoto 2.0 has entered the top 10 free photography chart in the US, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and many other countries. GeoPhoto 2.0 is an iPad app that lets users virtually travel around the world by finding geotagged pictures. It’s just a matter of selecting an area of the world map and clicking the search button. Shortly afterwards the screen will be filled with the best images found in that area. Version 2.0, which adds a brand new user interface and sharing options, is currently available on iTunes as a free download. Note that this is a limited-time offer - the app normally retails for $0.99.

Phase One has released Media Pro 1.0.1, a service release, and the first update since Media Pro was introduced less than two months ago. Once known as Microsoft Expression Media, Media Pro is a professional photo manager for finding, organising, and sharing images and videos. This service release fixes several bugs and issues with stability, TIFF and thumbnail rendering, catalogues, XMP sidecars, file sorting, readability, colour management, and more. Media Pro 1.0.1 is free to existing Phase One Media Pro customers.

Cooliris has just announced a major update to LiveShare, a cross-platform media sharing application that allows mobile and Web users to seamlessly share photos in real-time with whomever they want. In addition to a completely new user interface, this mobile and web app update has three new significant features including 1) more flexible sign-up options and invitations, 2) user profiles and 3) the ability to create public streams in addition to private ones. UK-based JFDP Labs have released Paper Camera 1.0, their new photography-based application for iOS. Paper Camera transforms static and moving images on the fly using complex filters and effects. Eight cartoon/comic filters are included with the app, with over 20 more promised to come with future upgrades. A simple, unique and stylish user interface lets you adjust, always in real time, filters / effects settings. Paper Camera is available now on iTunes for $0.99.

Kenigart has released Camera PRO+ for iPad 2, an app which allows users to improve pictures taken with the iPad 2’s camera. Claiming that its app uses “special photo improving math algorithms”, the Kaliningrad-based company has packed ten photo effects into the program, which also comes with a simple and easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) that’s fully optimised for the iPad 2. Camera PRO+ sells for $5.99 and is available now on iTunes.

Paint FX 1.0 is a new new photography app for iOS. Paint FX allows anyone to selectively apply photo enhancements, filters, visual effects and colors to specific parts of a photo, simply by painting with their fingers. Paint FX 1.0 is available now for $1.99 USD.

Camera Control is a new Capture Pilot option that lets photographers operate their cameras remotely via their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Using Camera Control, you can wirelessly view, zoom and pan high resolution DSLR and medium format RAW, JPEG and TIFF images while you are shooting. Camera Control is available now as an in app purchase for USD14.99 / EURO11.99. Capture Pilot is a free app available from the Apple store that works with Phase One’s Capture One Pro.

Cute Logic has released an update to Cute Slideshow, an easy-to-use slideshow app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The app uses a simple and intuitive interface to make it easy to create slideshows from the device’s photo library. Version 1.1 gains the ability to export users’ slideshows as movies (requires iPhone 4 or 4th generation iPod touch). Cute Slideshow is available now on the App Store for $2.99.

Ohanaware has updated its HDRtist Pro software to version 1.0.3. HDRtist Pro is an advanced HDR imaging tool that is able to wield and manipulate 128-bit floating-point images and can work with multiple exposures as well as single raw image files. The new version improves the speed of generating the full size image and support for colour profiles throughout the application. It also fixes a bug related to modifying/saving locked or read-only files and another one that concerns exporting the same file twice to the same editor. HDRtist Pro 1.0.3 is a free update for all customers, for new customers HDRtist Pro is $29.99 / £19.99. The application is available for purchase in the Mac App Store.

Zoner Software has released a new version of its standalone Zoner Photo Studio Free software, which is based on Zoner Photo Studio 13. Features new to this release include an improved Catalog, easy bullets and arrows with Insert Symbol, and a postcard maker. It also has improvements under the hood, like better utilisation of multicore processors. Regarding the new release, Ales Hasala, Director of Development noted, “We’ve been looking forward to providing users of the free edition with the benefits of version 13 ever since we released it. HP has announced a free, downloadable application for the HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer series that enables photographers to generate large-format photo negatives for the production of high-quality, black-and-white silver halide photo prints. Available in September, the Large Format Photo Negative software package includes a paper preset for the HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer series that allows photographers to print a digital negative from a film, scanned or digital capture file onto a transparent substrate. Once printed, these large-format photo negatives can be used as masters to produce high-quality black and white fine art prints through a contact process HP is showcasing the Large Format Photo Negative solution for the first time at Les Rencontres d’Arles 2011 in Arles, France, during a conference titled, “The Best of Both Worlds: Digital Negatives for Black & White Silver Prints” on Tuesday, July 5 at 6 p.m. in Cour des Rencontres, Rue Fanton.

Sony Digital Network Applications have released Photo Movie Creator, a smartphone application for the Android platform. The app allows users to create slideshows by selecting groups of photos (by date, event, or location), rather than picking them one by one. In addition there are several templates to choose from, and the program also enables users to add their own captions and background music. The app is available in the Android Market for €1.99 / £1.99. A trial version can be downloaded free of charge.

Nik Software has released version 1.1.0 of Nik Snapseed, an image editing app for the Apple iPad. The new version brings enhanced performance, raw data support for files transferred to the iPad via the Camera Connector Kit, and the ability to save files with the EXIF preserved. Some minor interface improvements are also included in this release. Snapseed for iPad is available for €3.99 on iTunes.

Epson America has announced a new version of Epson iPrint, an iOS app optimised to print photos and web pages from an Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to any wireless Epson All-in-One device. Advanced features include the selection and batch printing of multiple photos, borderless printing, easy switching between colour and greyscale printing and more. Epson iPrint is free and available worldwide on the Apple App Store.

Apple today announced Final Cut Pro X, a new version of its professional video editing software. Completely rebuilt from the ground up, Final Cut Pro X is a 64-bit app that uses multi-threaded processing and the GPU on the graphics card for fast background rendering and real-time playback. The new Magnetic Timeline lets you edit on a flexible, trackless canvas; while Content Auto-Analysis categorises your content upon import by shot type, media and people. Moreover, Final Cut Pro X also includes powerful tools for audio editing and colour correction.  The program is available today for £179.99 from the Mac App Store. Two companion apps, Motion 5 for professional motion graphics and Compressor 4 for advanced media encoding, are available from the for £29.99 each.

CyberLink today released PhotoDirector 2011, a brand new photo editor for Windows that allows users to efficiently manage, enhance and share their digital photographs. PhotoDirector 2011 introduces a fast, intuitive workflow and a wide array of dynamic adjustment tools that can be applied in a non-destructive editing environment. Additionally, it offers several other features, such as “native rendering” of raw image files from Canon and Nikon cameras and the ability to share user-defined presets through CyberLink’s online community, DirectorZone. CyberLink says that over 75,000 people from all over the world participated in the three-week Beta programme, giving PhotoDirector 2011 an overall product satisfaction score of 4.2 out of 5. The MAC Group has announced the collaboration of Mamiya, Leaf, Phase One and Schneider Kreuznach in the US market. New Mamiya DSLRs and digital backs range from 22 megapixels up to the exciting 80 megapixel version. Mamiya / Leaf digital backs, also available separately, are compatible with Mamiya 645, Mamiya RZ, Hasselblad V and H series, Contax 645 and most view cameras. Camera bodies and lenses are manufactured by Mamiya, digital backs are manufactured by Leaf under the Mamiya/Leaf name, Capture One software is made by Phase One, and new leaf shutter lenses are designed and certified by Schneider Kreuznach. Both customer and repair service for Mamiya and Leaf products will be provided by factory-trained technicians at MAC Group.

Color Range is a new photography app for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The program lets users modify the color range of an image to highlight a particular colour or range of colours while converting the rest of the picture to monochrome. In addition, Color Range offers 21 more built-in photo effects for free. Color Range is available now in the App Store for $1.99.

KenigArt has just released Camera Pro, a new photography app for Apple’s iPad 2. The application, which offers 10 tools to improve photos from the device’s built-in camera, features a simple and easy-to use user interface fully optimised for the iPad 2. Camera Pro is available on iTunes for $2.99.

RL Vision recently released version 4.1 of EXIF Tag remover, an application which allows users to quickly and selectively remove EXIF information from their image files in order to protect their privacy when publishing their photos online. Users can opt to delete all metadata or manually select the tags they want removed from their image files. The company also released version 6.54 of Flash Renamer, an all-in-one batch file renaming utility that can also be of use to photographers.
