Sony have issued a firmware update for the new Sony A9 full-frame compact system camera. According to the company, Version 1.01 "improves the overheating warning functionality" of the A9. You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.

Firmware version 3.0 for the Leica SL-System is now available for download. The update significantly reduces the time required for saving DNG raw image files to SD memory cards and enhances the speed, accuracy and handling of the autofocus system. Video and photo exposure settings are now independent of each other, no longer needing to be adapted when switching from one mode to the other. By making these settings separate of each other, the new firmware makes shooting photo and video faster and more convenient, speeding up a mixed-media workflow.  Photographers also now have the options to capture photos exclusively with the electronic shutter. This enables completely silent exposures in a shutter speed range from 1s to 1/16,000s. Version 3.0 also includes built-in automated firmware updates for the Leica Vario-Elmarit–SL 24–90 mm f/2.8–4 ASPH. and Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90–280 mm f/2.8-4 lenses, for further performance optimisation. In total, the new firmware update brings 31 improvements to the photo and video functions.

Olympus has issued new firmware updates for the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, OM-D E-M5 Mark II and Olympus PEN-F compact system cameras, expanding their compatibility with Profoto AirTTL flashes. The updates Version 1.2 for the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Version 3.0 for the OM-D E-M5 Mark II and Version 2.0 for the PEN-F enable compatibility with the new Profoto Air Remote TTL-O, allowing users to seamlessly integrate Profoto AirTTL flashes with these cameras. Further new functions for the E-M5 Mark II as well as the PEN-F include the ‘Save Setting/Mysets’ feature already available on the E-M1 Mark II. Panasonic have announced an upcoming firmware update for their Lumix GH5 cmpact system camera (pictured). Available from 24 April 2017, Firmware Version 1.1enables 4:2:2 10-bit video recording in either FHD [MP4(LPCM)] / [MOV] or Anamorphic (4:3) mode, in addition to the existing 4K video recording option, and fixes a couple of bugs. The Sony A9 is a new 35mm full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at professional sports and action photographers. It boasts a 24.2 megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, expandable ISO range of 50-204800, 693 focal plane phase detection AF points, 20fps burst shooting, 5-axis in-body image stabilisation and 4K UHD video recording. The Sony A9 is a new full-frame mirrorless camera that can shoot 24 megapixel images at 20fps. The Sony A9 interchangeable lens camera will start shipping from June 2017 priced at approximately £4,500 / $4,500.

The Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS is the furthest reaching E-mount lens in the range. The Sony FE 100-400mm GM lens will start to ship from July 2017, priced at approximately £2,500.

A new firmware update for the Fujifilm GFX 50S camera will be released in late May 2017. It will "will add (a) new function for computer tethering via Wi-Fi and improve operability in exposure compensation and autofocus performance in difficult scenes." In our Fujifilm GFX 50S review, we noted that exposure compensation was difficult to set and that the auto-focusing system was often a little sluggish, so it will be very interesting to see what imrpovements Fujifilm can make via this firmware update.

Fujifilm has unveiled an updated lens roadmap for the GFX 50S lens system. New additions include a telephoto prime lens and tele converter. With the addition of the two new lenses, the GF lens lineup has now expanded to a total of eight lenses.

Canon have announced that their interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLRs and CSCs) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 14 consecutive years from 2003 to 2016. In 2003, Canon introduced their breakthrough EOS 300D DSLR camera, which was competitively priced and quickly captured the top share of the global market. Canon has continued to launch a range of interchangeable-lens cameras including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. During 2016, Canon released the EOS 80D for advanced amateur users, the EOS-1D X Mark II for professionals, and the 4K-enabled EOS 5D Mark IV (pictured) for video enthusiasts. Additionally, the company’s interchangeable-lens camera lineup was further expanded with the introduction of the high-end EOS M5 compact-system camera in November. This year, the company launched the Canon EOS M6, EOS 77D and EOS 800D models.

Sigma today released a firmware update for its sd Quattro cameras. Version 1.04 adds an option to save images in raw 12-bit DNG format, improves the focusing speed of Contemporary, Art and Sports lenses by about 10-30%, adds comptibility with the SFD mode and Live View Display of Sigma Capture Pro, delivers enhanced white balance with the Sigma EF-630 flashgun, and fixes bugs.

Fujifilm today announced the upcoming release of new firmware updates for their X-Pro2 and X-T2 compact system cameras. X-T2 version 2.00 and X-Pro2 version 3.00 enable users to use the cameras' raw image file formats when shooting not only in AE Bracketing but also in other Bracketing modes (ISO, Dynamic Range, White Balance, Film Simulations) and also in Advanced Filter modes. Additionally, the updates add ISO125 and ISO160 to the list of extended ISO levels available, increase the maximum exposure time in T mode from 30 seconds to 15 minutes[!], add an AUTO option for the minimum shutter speed in the ISO Auto setting, enable the use of Phase Detection AF for faster performance in Face Detection AF, reduce focus hunting in AF-C mode, add a smaller Focus Point size in Single Point AF bringing the total number of available sizes to six, enable users to move the position of focus frame while enlarging it in Single-Point AF-S mode and during manual focusing, allow you to assign a specific name to Custom Settings 1 - 7, and much more. Olympus have issued a firmware update for their OM-D E-M1 Mark II compact system camera. According to the company, firmware version 1.1 improves the "stability of raw file formation". Users can update their camera's firmware using the Olympus Digital Camera Updater utility.

Canon Japan have posted seven full-resolution sample images and one reduced-resolution sample video captured with the new Canon EOS M6 compact system camera. Taken with a variety of lenses including the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, the EF-M18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, the EF-M11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM and the EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM; these Canon EOS M6 samples were all shot at a sensitivity setting of ISO 100/21°.
