DIWA member LetsGoDigital have just reviewed the Samsung Digimax i6, a 6 megapixel camera and also a portable media player with a 2.5 inch LCD screen and Advanced Shake Reduction.
“Although the Samsung Digimax i6 has an image stabiliser, I would prefer it to be replaced with an optical version. The digital image stabiliser in the Samsung i6 works well in good light conditions, but the moment you need to increase the ISO value artificially, the negative effects show up in the picture. Actually, manufacturers should only use the digital version is they are sure that the ISO is of high quality; if not, then an optical image stabiliser is the only solution.”

Fujifilm US Press Release
Earlier this year, Fujifilm unveiled the FinePix A400 and FinePix A500 digital cameras. These models were the first entry-level models in Fujifilm’s line-up to use the company’s Super CCD image sensor. Previous to the FinePix A400 and FinePix A500, Super CCD could be found only in more advanced consumer and professional digital cameras, like Fujifilm’s current FinePix F30 and FinePix S3 Pro. Today, Fujifilm USA announced price moves for both the FinePix A400 and FinePix A500. These changes should make these attractive cameras even more appealing to potential purchasers.
The four-MegaPixel FinePix A400 now carries a retail price of $129. The FinePix A500, which has a five MegaPixel Super CCD on board, currently retails for $149.

CNET have the first online review of the Kodak Easyshare Z612 camera, which offers 6 megapixels, 12x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD.
“As usual with cameras from Kodak, colors looked natural and well saturated in the Z612’s photos. The camera’s automatic white balance produced a very warm, yellowish color cast under our lab’s tungsten lights, though in natural daylight, it yielded neutral colors. The Z612’s tungsten white-balance setting fared better in the lab, though its images were slightly cool. Exposures were accurate, but the camera has a tendency to lose detail in brighter highlights”

CNET have just reviewed the Kodak Easyshare C643 digicam, which offers 6.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.4 inch LCD.
“The Kodak EasyShare C643’s inexpensive price tag may look tempting, but its weaknesses definitely outnumber its strengths. Considering this model’s flimsy build and poor image quality, you should opt for better choices, such as the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-S600 or the Canon PowerShot A620.”

CNET have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare C533 entry-level camera, which offers 5 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens and a 1.8 inch LCD.
“The Kodak EasyShare C533 is a basic budget camera that doesn’t pretend to be otherwise. This 5-megapixel point-and-shoot produces decent photos and responds quickly, but its flimsy-feeling build quality, tiny 1.8-inch LCD screen, and minimalist feature set keep the C533 firmly in the bargain bin.”

Digital Trends have just reviewed the Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z60 camera, which offers 6 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD.
“Another feature Casio touts is the Exilim’s anti-shake DSP technology. Casio does a great job here helping people with shaky hands take great photos. Aside from users with shaky hands, other circumstances may warrant the use of this feature. Say you’re at a concert and need to zoom in to get a picture, the anti-shake feature will really come in handy and you will come out with a decent photo, as opposed to a blurry mess.”

ByteSector have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F470 Zoom digital camera.
“For outdoors and brightly lit environments, the F470 performs very well and ranks amongst some of the better point and shoot cameras Bytesector has looked at. The colors are fairly bright and accurate despite the fact that the camera tends to favour blues and greens to warmer colors and flesh-tones.”

Digital-Lifestyles.info have a short review of the Casio EX-Z1000 compact digicam, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.8 inch LCD screen, IS0 3200 and an interesting new Zoom Continuous Shutter mode that allows you to compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display and to take both shots simultaneously.
“Ten megapixels lets you produce sharp prints at up to A2 poster in size or, more likely, crop in to tiny details and still end up with a printable image. But with great power often come great problems: huge file sizes, noisy images and irritating processing delays. Impressively, the Z1000 suffers from only the first of these (if you don’t think 4Mb per shot is huge, wait until you run out of memory cards halfway through a holiday).”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare Z650, which has a 6.1-megapixel sensor and 10x zoom lens.
“And that’s probably what I most liked about the Z650—I never got the feeling the camera was boxing me in to its way of shooting the scene. Take that touchy situation of shooting public works inside a museum. The rules are generally no flash and no tripod, enough to discourage anyone but particularly someone with just an Auto mode on a point-and-shoot. With the Z650, you could simply select the Museum Scene mode. Or, you could slip into Shutter Priority, set the shutter speed to 1/60 (or bravely try 1/30), kick the ISO up to 800, turn off the flash and get the shot.”

ByteSector have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix L3, a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2 inch LCD.
“The L3 is a standard looking camera, but I found that it was well proportioned. With the shrinking size of cameras, it is difficult to find one that is comfortable for me, but I thought the curve of the grip and the front layout of the camera provided many stable ways to hold the camera. Usually, I have some difficulty in getting a steady grip and not covering something on the front of the camera with my large hands, but with the L3, this was not a concern. And by no means is it too bulky either, as I was told by someone with petite hands that the L3 was very comfortable.”

InfoTrends Press Release
(Weymouth, MA) June, 13 2006… According to consumer survey research conducted by InfoTrends, 34% of U.S. digital camera owners are repeat buyers, representing an increase of 10% over the previous year. In addition, 20% of digital camera owners surveyed were planning to purchase another digital camera within the next year. Today, digital camera owners who have more than one digital camera tend to be more technology-savvy. In many cases, they have replaced or supplemented their original digital camera, so their behaviors are more reflective of the early adopters. A significantly higher percentage of these consumers own CE devices like portable music players and DVD burners. As consumers continue to upgrade their existing cameras, purchase additional cameras, and become more familiar with the various features and functions, InfoTrends believes that the penetration of technologies complementing digital photography will rise as well.

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Canon PowerShot S3 IS, a 6 megapixel camera with an image stabilized 12x zoom lens, ISO 800 and a 2 inch LCD screen.
“I was pleased with the S3’s results outdoors. The power of the 12x zoom lens gets you close to the action, allowing well-composed shots even from the spectator areas at sports events. The accurate autofocus system and lens combined to produce consistently sharp results. Images were well-exposed and richly saturated right out of the camera, but you can override the degree of sharpness, contrast and saturation using the camera’s menu system. Image noise was very low at sensitivity settings of ISO 80 and 100. Noise becomes detectable in shadow areas at ISO 200, and noticeable at ISO 400.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have published their review of the SD700 IS (also known as the Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS), a 6 megapixel camera with an image stabilized 4x zoom lens (first time on an IXUS camera).
“Despite its small size, the SD700’s ergonomics are good. At about the size of a deck of playing cards, it can easily be tucked away in any pocket, yet still fits comfortably in your hands. The well positioned controls fall naturally underneath your fingertips, and we especially like the zoom controls being mounted around the shutter release. The 2.5-inch LCD takes up a large percentage of the back of the camera, but Canon was able to squeeze a small optical viewfinder in above it. I noticed it was a bit more reflective than we have seen on other Canon models, however it was still very useable outdoors in bright sunlight.”

CNET have reviewed the new 10x zoom, 5 megapixel, compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 digital camera.
“Images from the Lumix DMC-TZ1 showed accurate, natural colors, with plenty of saturation. Plus, exposures were generally accurate, though it had a tendency to clip detail from the brightest portions of our field test images. Unfortunately, we also saw moiré in the finer details of our test images, which were noticeably soft and suffered from JPEG artifacts and fringing. More troubling, though, was that like a lot of Panasonic cameras, the DMC-TZ1 had a tough time keeping noise in check.”

TrustedReviews have just reviewed the Olympus mju 720 SW, a 7.1 megapixel, 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, weatherproof digital camera.
“I hope nobody from Olympus is reading this, because I took the brand-new £230 camera that the company had entrusted to my care and deliberately dropped it several times from head height onto a variety of different surfaces, including carpet, lino and a hard wooden floor. I stopped short of concrete because I didn’t want to mark the case, but I’m happy (and relieved) to report that it survived the ordeal apparently unscathed.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS digital camera, which offers 6 megapixels, image stabilized 4x zoom lens (first time on an IXUS) and ISO 800.
“Personally, I find very little fault with the Canon IXUS 800 IS camera. The design is remarkably solid and durable, and the structure of the menu is clear and can be easily navigated. However, there are several small comments to be made about the actual housing, such as its slippery surface, as well as the small mode dial on the side of the camera, which turns out slightly uncomfortable to touch. Overall however, the Canon IXUS 800 IS simply is a very pleasant camera to work with.”

“It’s not every day you come across an ultracompact digital camera that has a very large screen and also plays games. The Fuji FinePix V10 ($349 list) is a 5.1-megapixel camera that offers a distinctive 3-inch, 230,000-pixel color screen—perfect for viewing 30 thumbnails at once and playing the camera’s four included games.
