Fujifilm FinePix F470 ZoomDIWA member Photoxels have the first online review of the new 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F470 Zoom digital camera.

“This camera is strictly targeted to Point-and-Shoot photographers. It has 6.0MP resolution, a 3x optical zoom, and very good image quality. AUTO and Scene Modes (SP) simplify shooting, and a limited Manual (M) scene mode (essentially Programmed Auto mode) allows exposure compensation and preset White Balance control.”

KODAK EASYSHARE V610TrustedReviews have just reviewed the Kodak Easyshare V610, the world’s smallest 10x zoom digital camera.

“It is worth mentioning though that you don’t actually have that entire focal length at your disposal – the first lens has a focal length of 38 – 114mm, while the second lens sports a 130 – 380mm range. Therefore there’s a jump between 114 and 130mm. Whether this is an issue for you really depends on whether the exact shot you want lies in the missing area of focal length, and even if it does, you could always just take a couple of steps forward or backwards to compensate.”

HP Photosmart R927CNET have just published their review of the new top of the range 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.

“If, for some reason, you’re not bothered by the Photosmart R927’s image quality or performance issues, its ease of use, its extensive help menus, and its manual exposure controls make it a great camera with which to learn the basics of photography. But if you already know a thing or two and don’t need such extensive help functions, you’d probably be better off with a camera with superior image quality, such as Casio’s Exilim EX-Z850.”

Pentax *ist DLDigiCamReview have reviewed the entry-level Pentax *ist DL digital SLR camera. The Pentax *ist DL is a 6.1 megapixel DSLR which features a 2.5 LCD screen and light 16 ounce body.

“Image quality is excellent, the images have very good colour, with good contrast and detail, with low noise except at higher ISO settings. Images were slightly smoothed but this is adjustable within the camera. Purple fringing was not noticed, and red-eye was not a problem. The camera was very competent at focusing (except on very plain or dark surfaces).  Vignetting in photos was very mild and I did not notice barrel or pincushion distortion. There is a good range of image sizes, and the compression options include a RAW mode.  Auto white balance and metering, and exposure seemed to be good to very good.”

Casio EX-S600ePhotoZine have reviewed the Casio EX-S600, a 6 megapixel ultra-slim digital camera with a movie stabilizer function that reduces camera shake when recording movies.

“The Anti-shake DSP function is basically a glorified high-sensitivity mode. In situations when light levels drop and camera shake would normally occur, the camera raises the ISO sensitivity to increase the shutter speed. This can still be an effective way of reducing camera shake, the major drawback is that higher sensitivities mean more image noise. The camera bumped the sensitivity up to ISO1600 for the shot on the left, which has resulted in a sharp image. It hasn’t suffered greatly from digital noise either.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2 digicam.

“With a five-megapixel CCD, a 3x zoom and a new 1-point high speed Autofocus option, the LS2 has plenty of functionality while still listing for less than $200. Where it sets itself apart from cameras like the Canon A530 and Sony S600 is that the LS2 offers Panasonic’s mega-helpful MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.), which is great for reducing blur from handshake. The LS2 is the only camera in its price range to offer optical image stabilization, which is certainly a strong selling point. Though it doesn’t dazzle with its design—the camera is basically a slightly rounded silver brick—it’s not unattractive to look at either.”

Kodak V570DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new dual lens Kodak V570 camera.

“he dual-lens system offers indisputable advantages, not to mention the fact that this type of wide-angle packaged in a compact digital camera is absolutely unique. However, it remains a pity that the image quality ranges only from average to good, and that we see rivalling 5 Megapixel digital cameras produce better results. Overall, the images are not as sharp as one would expect, which greatly affects the fine details in the image. Granted, the results do improve after applying a little extra sharpness to the image, but this is in fact a process that should already have taken place inside the camera.”

Ricoh Caplio R4ePhotoZine have posted their review of the Ricoh Caplio R4, a 6 megapixel camera with 7x zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD screen and Vibration Correction function.

“I really enjoyed using the Ricoh Caplio R4, having a long zoom range like this in such a tiny camera is a lot of fun, especially as it is equivalent to 28mm at the wide end. The price you pay is in the maximum aperture of the lens being only f/3.3-4.8, although in my opinion it is a price worth paying. Also the CCD shift vibration correction is very effective, with good technique long exposures are possible handheld.”

Fujifilm FinePix F10 ZoomDigital Photography Blog have a short review of the Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, which has an ISO range of 80 to 1600, Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“This is not a digital camera for people who want lots of manual controls. It does have five ‘shooting modes’ (natural light, portrait, landscape, sport and night modes) as well as a one touch macro mode but beyond that in ‘manual mode’ you only really have some basic control over exposure compensation and white balance. I played around with these settings but found that in most cases the fully automatic mode performed to such a high standard that manual mode is not something I’d use a lot with this camera. This is the reason that I first thought of this camera as a great mothers day gift - I know not all mums are ‘auto mode shooters’ but my mum is!”

Canon PowerShot S3 ISCNET have reviewed the Canon PowerShot S3 IS, a 6 megapixel camera with an image stabilized 12x zoom lens, ISO 800 and a 2 inch LCD screen.

“Autofocus occurs quickly for the most part, although a few of my shots looked as if the focus hadn’t locked before capture. I didn’t experience any of the problems that the S2’s reviewer did with SuperMacro mode; it worked fine for me, even with the lens almost pressed against the subject. The image stabilization bought me about two stops of shutter latitude, but my hands shake like an octogenarian’s—a coffee-drinking octogenarian.”

Canon PowerShot A430PCMagazine have reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A430, which offers 4 megapixels, ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 4x optical zoom lens.

“With a 4-megapixel sensor and a 4X optical zoom lens, the Canon PowerShot A430 ($179.95 list) is a really nice buy for an inexpensive, compact digital camera. The lens offers a 5.4mm-to-21.6mm range (equivalent to a 35mm lens with a 39mm-to-156mm zoom) and corresponding maximum f-stops of f/2.8 to f/5.8. But I wish Canon would offer more ease-of-use and help features in the menus; this would be a big help to beginners who never crack the camera’s manual.”

Olympus mju 720 SWDIWA member Steves Digicams have just reviewed the Olympus mju 720 SW, a 7.1 megapixel, 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, weatherproof digital camera.

“Image quality was good for a consumer 7-megapixel model. Outdoors, images that were captured were consistently well exposed, with pleasing color saturation. Thanks in part to its TTL autofocus system and 3x optical zoom lens, the majority of our samples were nice and sharp, and I noticed very little edge softness (a common issue with consumer cameras.) The lens covers a 35mm equivalent range of approx. 38-114mm, favoring the telephoto end of the zoom range. While its 38mm wide angle extreme is not as wide as most of its competitors, it will still allow you to capture nice landscapes and group portraits.”

KODAK EASYSHARE V610CNET have just reviewed the Kodak Easyshare V610, the world’s smallest 10x zoom digital camera.

“With the EasyShare V610, Kodak takes its innovative dual-lens camera design to its logical conclusion. The company pairs a typical compact-camera 38mm-to-114mm zoom lens with a second 130mm-to-380mm lens, for an effective 10X optical zoom range; a gap remains between 114mm and 130mm. Unlike most big zoom cameras, the 6-megapixel Kodak EasyShare V610 is small and made mostly for snapshooters, so it doesn’t include manual exposure controls. Unfortunately, it also lacks image stabilization, which would’ve made that long zoom much more useful, and its image quality doesn’t match its snazzy design.”

Nikon Coolpix S5DCViews have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S5 digital camera.

“The Nikon ED f/3.0-5.4 35-105mm optical zoom lens produces sharp results in the centre of the image throughout its range, but there is some notable vignetting in the extreme corners of the pictures. Also we noted that corners were definitely lacking in sharpness. The latter would not be too obvious in most day to day photo situations but vignetting will be clearly visible in images with uniform colours, such as the blossom image you can see here. There is no evidence of purple fringing in extreme contrast situations. A fair amount of barrel distortion is visible at wide angle, which slowly changes into some pincushioning when you zoom in. The amount of barrel distortion seems to be a bit more than what we have come to expect in cameras of this class.”

Fujifilm FinePix F11TrustedReviews have just reviewed the 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F11.

“The Finepix F11 is basically an updated version of the F10. It keeps exactly the same body design, the same 6.63 megapixel SuperCCD HR sensor and the same 3x optical zoom lens. What it adds to the winning formula is a higher resolution LCD monitor (153K pixels over 115K), slightly better macro performance (5cm instead of 7.5cm), and more importantly aperture and shutter priority exposure metering, absolutely essential for creative photography. It stops short of full manual exposure, but the additional options will be welcomed by keen photographers.”
