Pentax Optio W10TrustedReviews have reviewed the Pentax Optio W10, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD and a waterproof body.

“At lower ISO settings the pictures are smooth and sharp, and the improved folded-optics lens provides excellent edge-to-edge detail and almost no distortion even at the widest angle setting. The improved image processing engine is a lot less heavy-handed than that of many similarly-specified cameras, and produces extremely natural colour rendition that are naturally sharp rather than over-sharpened. Focusing and exposure are both very accurate in nearly all lighting conditions, and the built-in flash has excellent coverage and plenty of power, with a maximum range at wide angle of a healthy 3.6 metres.”

Pentax Optio E10DigiCamReview have the first online review of the new entry-level Pentax Optio E10, which offers 6.0 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.4-inch LCD monitor.

“The camera is slow to switch on and take photos, being ready in around four seconds. Focusing seemed slow - taking around around 1 second or longer indoors. The playback mode is a bit sluggish, with photos taking a second or two before displaying when going from photo to photo - however the zoom is quite quick. The camera shutter response seemed average when pre-focused, with a response time of around 0.1 - 0.2 seconds. Shot to shot time was very slow, with a delay of around 7 seconds between shots without flash - switching image review off made this around 2 seconds quicker. Thankfully the flash recharge didn’t slow the camera down, and shot to shot time was roughly 7 seconds with flash. The cameras menus seemed fairly quick. On the High Speed continuous shooting mode, shot time is slow, taking a show every 1.6 seconds, at the highest resolution.”

HP Photosmart R927DIWA member and Norwegian website Digit.no have just published their review of the new top of the range 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.

“The camera has numerous benefits over its predecessors, such as 8.2 MP image resolution, a bright 3” LCD screen with high resolution and wide viewing angle, improved red eye removal technology and a number of options for artistic after-effects. On the other hand, the R927 also has some annoying flaws and design issues. Its stainless steel casing is slippery, there is no optical viewfinder, the battery locking device is a joke, the AF system is less sensitive than before and the AF lamp has virtually no effect. Although the ISO speed is limited to 100-400, colour fringing is quite disturbing, and the macro capacity is rather poor, the R927 delivers surprisingly good overall image quality. The lens’ resolving power, sharpness, distorsion and vignetting is surprisingly good, the colour rendition is excellent and there is virtually no visible noise, even at ISO 400.”

Fujifilm FinePix F470 ZoomCNET have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F470 Zoom digital camera.

“Fujifilm brings us the FinePix F470, yet another compact 6-megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom lens, a 2.5-inch LCD, and few distinctive features. This middle-of-the-road snapshooter shares the same basic specs as Fujifilm FinePix stablemates, the F10, the F30, and the A600. If you want better videos than the A600 offers and don’t need the higher ISO sensitivity of the F10 or F30, this economical camera may be your best bet from Fujifilm’s crowded lineup.”

Pentax Optio A10DIWA member Steves Digicams have taken a look at the new Pentax Optio A10, which features a shake reduction system, 8 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“Pentax’s new Optio A10 is the highest resolution compact model they have to offer as of 5/2006, and includes many high-end features like an 8-megapixel imager, 3x optical zoom lens, digital Shake Reduction technology, large 2.5-inch LCD as well as various user friendly exposure modes. This is a fully automatic camera that is great for the beginner or novice user who likes to just point-n-shoot, without much fuss. However, its Program AE mode does still offer some adjustment to exposure settings (like ISO, White balance, metering etc.)”

Canon PowerShot S3 ISDIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the Canon PowerShot S3 IS, a 6 megapixel camera with an image stabilized 12x zoom lens, ISO 800 and a 2 inch LCD screen.

“The lens produces superb results. Although distortion is visible at wide-angle, it stays easily within the margins. The sharpness is very decent from the corners to the centre. Focussing proves both fast and accurate, and takes places soundlessly. The colour rendition is first-rate, and Canon have managed to achieve an excellent compromise where sharpening and contrast are concerned. The photos from the Canon PowerShot S3 IS are ready for instant use, without requiring any editing afterwards. “

Sony DSC-W70DigitalCameraReview have published the first online review of the new 8 megapixel Sony DSC-W70 digital camera.

“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 is a stylish, compact camera that takes great pictures. With its 7.2 megapixels, you get plenty of resolution even if you have to crop out some bad areas of your image. The 3x optical zoom is pretty standard these days, but it helps you get a little closer. The very nice 2.5 inch LCD doesn’t have a ton of resolution (115K pixels), but it’s very bright and easy to see, even on bright sunlit days.”

“Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-W50 updates the already popular Cyber-shot line with an ultra-thin, compact body built for travel. A 3x zoom lens, 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, and handful of preset Scene modes makes the Sony W50 very user friendly, with straightforward operation that novices will appreciate. The 6.0-megapixel CCD captures high-resolution images, and 32 megabytes of internal memory lets the camera hold a few shots without a memory card. Compact yet capable, the Sony W50 promises to be another winner from Sony.”

Nikon Coolpix P3CNET have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P3 camera, which offers 8.1 megapixels, 3.5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD.

“Wi-Fi is the word for the 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix P3. Like its predecessors, the Coolpix P1 and the P2, as well as its compact contemporary, the Coolpix S6, this compact point-and-shoot incorporates an internal transmitter for uploading pictures to a nearby computer or printer. While it sounds exciting, Nikon’s wireless implementation falls a little short of true usefulness. Indeed, it’s the P3’s excellent image quality that impresses us far more than its wireless abilities. With optical vibration reduction (VR), the P3 is a great snapshooter that should please discriminating users.”

Fujifilm FinePix A500 Zoom
PCMagazine have the first online review of the entry-level Fujifilm FinePix A500 Zoom digital camera.

“Looking for a digital point-and-shoot that is both affordable and easy to use? Fuji has one for your consideration. The Fuji FinePix A500 ($179 list) is a 5.1-megapixel compact digital camera that features a 3X optical zoom. The lens has a 6.4mm-to-19.2mm zoom range (equivalent to a 35mm lens with a 38mm-114mm zoom) and corresponding maximum f-stops of f/3.3 to f/5.5. It comes with 12MB of internal memory and includes Fuji’s patented Super CCD sensor (but I have to say that I’ve never noticed that this special sensor does anything out of the ordinary). On my tests, the A500 took very good stills and delivered solid performance for low-cost camera.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5PCMagazine have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 camera.

“Panasonic’s recent ad campaign promoting MEGA O.l.S., its image stabilization technology, includes the catch phrase “Life’s a blur. Your photos shouldn’t be.” It’s a good line and, for the most part, appropriately highlights this technology’s performance. The MEGA O.l.S. (optical image stabilizer) hardware comes in handy on Panasonic’s 6-megapixel Lumix DMC-LZ5 compact digital camera, which has twice the zoom range of most compacts I’ve tested.”

Pentax Optio A10DPReview have taken a look at the new Pentax Optio A10, which features a shake reduction system, 8 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“The Optio A10 is a deeply frustrating camera for a reviewer; on the one hand it is capable of producing some of the best results in its class, the lens is obviously excellent, image processing is fairly subtle, and unlike so many similar cameras the default contrast, saturation and sharpening are spot-on. On the other hand it can be really, really annoying to use; by today’s standards shooting feels slow and unresponsive, and has a screen that can’t be seen at all in bright weather.”

The F470 does have hybrid functionality and will shoot video clips at a resolution of 640 x 480 at 30 fps with simultaneous, though not stunning, monaural audio.
