DigitalCameraReview have published the first online review of the Pentax Optio W10, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD and a waterproof body.
“The speed of the camera operation was good—not the fastest, but not the slowest. Start up time was about two seconds and shutter lag was minimal when the camera has achieved auto focus/auto exposure lock (about average for this class of camera). Shutter lag for a full press of the shutter was significant, especially when the flash needs to fire. You should get in the practice of doing the partial shutter press anyway—you will have a better idea of what your camera is going to focus on and can correct it if it’s not right. Cycle time was also average and can be adjusted to some extent by changing the review time via the camera menu.”

DigiCamReview have just reviewed the new 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2 digicam.
“The camera’s 2” screen was good despite it’s low resolution of 86,000 pixels, it appeared to have very good dynamic range in both photo mode and playback mode - the screen was clear, bright, with saturated and accurate colours. The camera features a “High Angle” button that helps you view the image on the screen if you are holding the camera above you, this works surprisingly well. The camera is pocketable and fairly compact, but not ultra-compact. The camera is quite stylish with a silver plastic body. “

CNET have reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A430, which offers 4 megapixels, ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 4x optical zoom lens.
“Image quality is decent on the A430, but colors tend to run oversaturated and cool; using the manual white balance yields the most neutral result. There’s a fair amount of fringing, and noise is a nuisance on this camera, with speckles appearing in shots taken at sensitivities as low as ISO 200. The noise tends to be even enough to pass off as artsy film grain, but it’s still irritating at higher ISO settings.”

DigitalCameraTracker have just published their review of the new top of the range 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.
“One of most noticeable things about the R927 is the simple button arrangement. This is a nice way of saying there are VERY few buttons. I found it extremely easy to navigate using HP’s button layout. The only thing I would pass along is to go in and turn off the digital zoom because in the excitement of taking pictures it’s ultra easy to slip into digital zoom, and we all know the resulting images suffer in quality. The R927’s zoom is a little too jumpy at times or perhaps it was just my big fingers but I found that while trying to frame my pictures I spent quite a bit of extra time fiddling with the zoom to get it just right.”

PCMagazine have reviewed the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 which combines a 12x optical zoom lens with MEGA O.I.S. in a compact body.
“As with most other Lumix superzooms, you can use either the electronic viewfinder (EVF) or the 2.5-inch LCD to compose you images. The LCD is decent, although it solarizes when looked at from a sharp angle. If the DMC-FZ7 had an articulating LCD, as the FZ30 does, this would be less noticeable. The EVF also worked pretty well, although I found it a little hard to see in low light; Panasonic should try to improve that.”

DCResource have reviewed the Canon PowerShot A700, a 6 megapixel camera with ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 6x optical zoom lens.
“The PowerShot A700’s ISO performance was the same as the A540 that I just reviewed, which isn’t surprising, as they use the same sensor. You should be able to make large prints through ISO 200 without any problem. The ISO 400 image prints well at 4 x 6, and may be okay at larger sizes after a trip through NeatImage or similar. There was noticeable grain in the 4 x 6 inch print of the ISO 800 image, though it too could be usable (at that size) after some noise reduction.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams has the first review of the Canon Powershot SD600 (also called the Canon Digital IXUS 60), which has 6 megapixels, 3x zoom lens, ISO 800, Widescreen (16:9) mode, and a 2.5 inch LCD.
“The PowerShot SD600 is one of the latest additions to Canon’s very popular “ultra compact” Digital ELPH line (as of 4/2006.) This user friendly model includes many high-end features such as 6-megapixels of resolution, a large 2.5-inch anti-glare LCD, 640x480 30fps movie mode as well as various easy to use exposure modes, all jam packed into its durable all metal body. Beginners will appreciate the fully automatic scene modes that offer point-n-shoot simplicity, while still being able to control the white balance, ISO sensitivity, metering and much more with the Manual mode.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the 5 megapixel Olympus FE-110 digital camera.
“Simplicity is what the Olympus FE-110 is all about. Featuring a 5.0-megapixel CCD, 2.8x lens, and compact size, the FE-110 provides bare-bones digital photography for novice consumers. The FE-110’s automatic exposure control and point-and-shoot design leave limited choices for the user to worry over. Combine that with the Olympus FE-110’s very low price point, and you have an entry-level digital camera capable enough for most average shooting conditions. Performance is slow, but the pictures are decent.”

Digital-Lifestyles have posted the first online review of the Ricoh Caplio R4, a 6 megapixel camera with 7x zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD screen and Vibration Correction function.
“Noise levels were well under control at 64 -100 ISO, and still fairly reasonable up to 400 ISO. Ricoh Caplio R4 Superzoom Compact With Image Stabilisation: Review By 800 ISO we were entering arctic snowstorm territory, but the results were still easily usable for 6” x 4” prints (after a bit of cleaning up with noise-reduction programs like Noise Ninja). We didn’t see much in the way of pesky purple fringing (certainly far less than the Fuji F10/F11) and we were pleased with the lens performance overall.”

CNET have just reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix V10 Zoom, a 5 megapixel camera with 3 inch LCD screen that can also play games!
“A first-class 3-inch LCD, good high-ISO photo quality, and some useful, quirky features separate the ultracompact Fujifilm FinePix V10 from the pack, a lure for snapshooters who want a camera with its own personality. However, its 5-megapixel photos don’t rise above the crowd, it lacks manual exposure and focus adjustments, and the minuscule controls will frustrate all but the most dainty-fingered photographers.”

Spanish website Quesabesde have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel, 28mm wide-angle lens Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01.
“Of course the sensor has long been the Lumix’s achilles heel, and noise is still enough of an issue here that some fairly harsh noise reduction is needed. But whereas other recent Lumix models have been so noisy that the problem threatened to overwhelm all the good stuff, here the noise is only a serious problem in daylight at ISO 400. That said, noise gets steadily worse as light levels drop, and I cannot recommend the output in low light at ISO 100 or above for anything over postcard-sized prints.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Canon PowerShot A700, a 6 megapixel camera with ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 6x optical zoom lens.
“I was very pleased with the overall image quality of the A700’s 6-megapixel Large SuperFine mode. Our outdoor samples were beautiful, showing good exposure and color saturation. Thanks in part to the Canon 6x optical zoom lens, just about every single shot I took was nice and sharp from edge to edge. In fact i saw almost no signs of edge blurring or softness; a common trait of consumer models. Noise is nonexistent at the lower ISO settings (80 or 100), but does become more noticeable as the sensitivity is increased. “

CNET have reviewed the Canon PowerShot A700, a 6 megapixel camera with ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 6x optical zoom lens.
“Like its stablemate, the PowerShot A540, the compact Canon PowerShot A700 offers abundant manual controls, respectable image quality, and acceptable ISO 800 performance. Either camera should appeal to enthusiast photographers or serious beginners who want some control over exposure and focus. But the A700’s biggest edge is its 6X zoom lens, a nice step up from the A540’s 4X glass. Plus, the A700 includes macro focusing down to 0.4 inch, a higher-resolution 2.5-inch LCD, and a rear-sync flash that fires at the end of your exposure to keep car headlights from looking like laser beams.”

“It may be small, but the Canon PowerShot SD630 is fierce. This little 6-megapixel point-and-shoot manages to pack zippy performance and snappy photos into a package you can fit in your pants pocket. If you have large hands, you’ll probably find its control layout a little uncomfortable, and it doesn’t have an optical viewfinder, but the SD630 is still a great compact camera.”

DigitalCameraReview have taken a look at the new Pentax Optio A10, which features a shake reduction system, 8 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“The Optio A10 produced good images overall, but you may end up adjusting the default settings so images are more to your taste. In my opinion, colors were slightly oversaturated and images were just a hair underexposed. The images had good sharpness and detail across the entire frame. Chromatic aberration was also well controlled. Another type of image that I had trouble with (with the default settings) was a backlit subject. The multi-segment metering didn’t do a good job of handling a person against a bright sky. To remedy this, try another metering mode.”

DCResource have just published their review of the new top of the range 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.
“Photo quality turned out to be the R927’s weak point. While the camera took well exposed photos with vibrant colors, I was disappointed with the amount of noise and purple fringing on my photos. While these issues won’t make a difference if you’re making 4 x 6 inch prints, you will notice them in 8 x 10 prints or when viewing them onscreen. Redeye will not be a problem if you turn on the camera’s software-based redeye reduction system, though that will slow down shot-to-shot times a bit.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have posted the first online review of the Canon Digital IXUS 60, a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x zoom lens, ISO 800, Widescreen (16:9) mode, and 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“In the past, we have seen the small IXUS digital camera struggle a little with capturing images indoors; especially in situations where the effective range of the internal flash wasn’t quite up to par. The Canon Digital IXUS 60 is equipped with a high sensitivity setting, which enables you to use the camera to take photos indoors without a flash. In addition, the high value of ISO 800 should also minimise camera shake; an inexpensive solution to achieve image stabilisation, which is emphasised by the quick button that is positioned on the camera.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P3 camera, which offers 8.1 megapixels, 3.5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD.
“The P3’s shooting performance was average. Power up to first image captured measured just under 4 seconds. Shutter lag measured 2/10 second when pre-focused and 1 second including autofocus, both times including the approx. 1/10 second delay in the live image of the LCD viewfinder. The shot to shot delay averaged about 2.7 seconds between frames without the use of the flash and between 3 and 8 seconds with the flash, depending on subject distance.”
