Fujifilm FinePix F30 Zoom: a low light landmark - Fujifilm’s revolutionary Fujifilm F30 compact works in the light conditions that other cameras hate

After almost a decade of obsession with pixel counts, Fujifilm is proud to announce the launch of the Fujifilm FinePix F30 Zoom, a camera which confirms a new stage in the evolution of digital camera technology.  Breaking away from the tired and irrelevant practice of pixel counting, the FinePix F30 Zoom is the world’s first digital compact camera to deliver ISO 3200 sensitivity at full resolution. Fujifilm has identified sensitivity as one of the major photographic benchmarks for the digital age, and this camera makes it possible to capture images of unrivalled quality, even in very dark conditions.

Building on the success of the award-winning FinePix F10 Zoom, the Fujifilm FinePix F30 Zoom pulls away from the pack with a sensitivity setting that is eight times as effective in low light as a conventional compact with ISO 400.  The product of many years of accumulated expertise in sensor technology, this is the closest that any digital compact camera has come to approximating the remarkable sensitivity of the human eye. In practical terms, it is a breakthrough in delivering crisp images, even at night-time, or with fast-moving subjects.

Pentax OptioWPiTrustedReviews have revewed the Pentax Optio WPi digital camera, an updated version of the waterproof Optio WP camera with a larger 2 inch LCD screen and 6 megapixel sensor.

“You know, I think Pentax’s UK marketing department might be trying to kill me, but they’re going to make it look like an accident. This is the second year in a row that Pentax has launched a camera that can take photographs underwater, and once again my review sample has been sent in the middle of winter. Pentax knows that I’d get into a lot of trouble if I tried taking pictures in my local swimming bath, so the only way I can get any underwater sample shots is to risk an extremely unpleasant death from hypothermia and frostbite by braving the near-zero water temperatures in a river or the sea. As murder plots go, it’s both fiendish and almost foolproof.”

Sony Cyber-shot S600DesignTechnica have published the first review of the new, budget 6 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot S600 digital camera.

“Available since late last year, the Sony DSC-S600 is a great indicator of 2006 consumer price trends. For $199, you get a 6-megapixel compact point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom from a well-known brand. No, we’re not talking about Concord, DXG or Vivitar but a top-tier company. Depending on the survey du jour, Sony is considered among the top three worldwide.”

Canon PowerShot S80DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the Canon PowerShot S80, an 8 megapixel update of the S70 which offers a 28-100mm f/2.8-5.3 lens, 2.5 inch LCD screen and Canon’s advanced image processor, DIGIC II.

“The Canon PowerShot S80 is a hybrid digital camera with 8 megapixels for shooting still images, and several modes and resolutions for recording movie clips. The S80 is the first camera to have a movie mode that can shoot in 1024 x 768 pixels. While this is great resolution, it only captures 15 frames per second so the high resolution isn’t complemented by a smooth frame rate. The S80 has other movie modes as well that are more typical of an average compact camera’s offerings. VGA and QVGA sizes are available in a video mail option. Unfortunately, the S80 lacks some features that would make it a good camcorder. The Canon S80 cannot use its 3.6x optical zoom lens while recording movies and there is no image stabilization to keep telephoto movie shots from looking like they were filmed during an earthquake.”

Canon IXUS 55DPReview have reviewed the Canon IXUS 55 compact digital camera (also known as the SD450), which has 5.0 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens.

“Of course there are limits to what you can expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sharpness of the images produced by the SD450, even with the fringing and occasional soft corner. At the end of the day, where it matters to the target market; exposure, color, focus, speed and flash performance, the SD450 more than meets expectations. If you can live without manual control over exposure this is the perfect pocket camera and an ideal alternative for the days you don’t want to take a bigger camera out with you.”

Fujifilm FinePix S9500 ZoomByteSector have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix S9500 Zoom, a new 9 megapixel digital camera with a 28-300mm lens with twist-barrel zoom control (also known as the S9000).

“Today, we’ll be looking at Fuji ‘s top-of-the-line pro-sumer digital camera, the Finepix S9000. This camera is placed above the standards of typical point-and-shoot cameras and just a touch below SLR cameras. Its SLR-like design is supposed to make it a great choice for photographers just starting off, thanks to the price, features list and ease of use. With a price tag of $900 CAD, it makes one wonder whether or not it is even worth it to get one of these when digital SLR cameras are rapidly dropping in price and can be had for little more than the cost of the S9000.”

Nikon Coolpix S3Imaging Resource have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S3, a 6 megapixel update of the S1 and S2. The Nikon S3 has a 3x 35-105mm zoom lens and 2.5 inch monitor.

“The new Nikon Coolpix S3 is the company’s third digital camera in a small, slim package, following the S1 and S2. The S3 has a larger 2.5 inch LCD and a slightly larger sensor, too. Feature-wise, both the Nikon Coolpix S3 and S1 fall somewhere between the recent Coolpix 5600 and 5900. Physically, however, the Nikon S3 is compact and extremely pocketable. It has no protruding lens parts, and as a result is unlikely to get snagged anywhere. Its 6.0-megapixel sensor can capture relatively high resolution images, and its 3x zoom lens gives you the focal length flexibility you need to frame your subjects well. All tolled, it’s an excellent “take-with-you-everywhere” digital camera. With its range of user-friendly, point & shoot exposure modes, the Nikon Coolpix S3 can handle just about any photo opportunity you’re likely to throw at it.”

Sony Cyber-shot M2DCResource have the first online review of the Sony Cyber-shot M2 digital hybrid camera, a 5 megapixel diigtal camera which also offers MPEG-4 movies in a stylish upright design.

“The Cyber-shot DSC-M2 has the same high quality movie mode as the M1 before it. That means unlimited recording at 640 x 480, 30 frames/second, with stereo sound. While the resolution is the same as on Sony’s other cameras, the quality is noticeably better. And, since the camera uses the MPEG-4 codec you’ll be able to take longer movies than you can on a camera that uses something like M-JPEG. On a 1GB MS Duo card you can fit a whopping 45 minutes of video—wow! For longer movies you can cut the resolution down to 320 x 240, at your choice of 30 or 15 frames/second. If that’s not enough, you can even use the zoom lens during filming.”

Panasonic DMC-FZ30DigiCamReview have just reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ30. This is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a 12x Leica optical zoom lens equivalent to 35-420mm, optical image stabilizer, addition of a manual zoom ring and rotating LCD screen with 235,000 pixels.

“The buttons are fairly easy to use, and they are in a good position. There seem to be the right amount of buttons and dials allowing easy access to the most commonly used functions and features. The buttons feel okay, although some may find them small. The shutter release is quite decent. The buttons are labelled fairly well - although the scrolling wheels can be confusing in playback mode - I expect with extended use I would have become used to this. I thought the camera felt very good ergonomically, with an excellent size rubbery handgrip, the rubberised cover will appeal to many, as will the SLR-styling and black colour. The camera feels like a very solid, robust and well built camera, with a metal body (whereas most budget Digital SLRs have plastic bodies).”

“The Panasonic LS2 is very affordable and easy-to-use. Image quality is average and on the noisy side. It would be suitable for entry-level and first-time digital camera users who will be mostly printing at 4x6 in. and displaying for the Web. To many, the very effective Image Stabilizer will be the main selling point: it helps avoid blurred pictures due to camera shake.”

Olympus FE-120DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Olympus FE-120, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x zoom lens and 1.8 inch LCD screen.

“Image quality was average for a 6-megapixel entry-level model. The majority of our sample photos were sharp and showed pleasing color saturation. However, there was visible edge softness on several of our images, especially along the left hand side of the frame. The 3x optical zoom lens offers flexibility in composing your shots with a focal range of approx. 38 - 114mm (35mm equivalent.) As usual, it shows average amounts of barrel distortion and pincushioning at the wide angle and telephoto extremes, respectively.”

Olympus SP-500UZDPReview have reviewed the Olympus SP-500UZ digital camera, which has a 10x optical zoom lens equivalent to 38-380mm, 6 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder.

”...the feature set is impressive, but (aside, perhaps from RAW capture) there’s nothing here that jumps out and says ‘buy me instead of a Panasonic / Canon / Sony’. The extra megapixel over most of its direct competitors makes little - if any - difference to the quality of results, and although noise is fairly well controlled, the images are pretty soft and the number of shots lost to camera shake or focus errors (at the long end of the zoom) is high.”
