Kodak Easyshare P850CNET have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare P850 camera which features a 12x, 36 – 432 mm, image-stabilised, f2.8 – f/3.7, SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON lens.

“Second from the top of Kodak’s lineup, the 5.1-megapixel EasyShare P850 offers more features than you normally find in digital cameras on the Rochester company’s roster. Those features include a 36mm-to-432mm lens (35mm equivalent); image stabilization (for the 12X zoom); manual-exposure adjustments; and controls for contrast, saturation, and even white-balance compensation. Even so, the Kodak EasyShare P850 is comparatively pricey; the 8-megapixel, wide-angle EasyShare P880 costs only about $100 more. Still, the P850 offers enough sophistication and flexibility for enthusiasts while maintaining its EasyShare simplicity for those who may eventually want to graduate to manual adjustments.”

Sony Cyber-shot N1DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot N1, an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 3 inch touch-screen LCD and 3x optical zoom lens.

“The 5 Area Multi-point autofocus system is very quick and thanks to the focus-assist lamp, we had few problems focusing on subjects in low-light conditions. Its tiny flash has a respectable range of approx. 16.4 feet at wide angel and ISO Auto. I found it was quite adequate for shooting portraits in small to medium sized rooms, where your subject(s) are not more than 6 to 8 feet away (when using the mid to telephoto end of the zoom range.) Our indoor flash portraits were sharp with good overall exposure and skin tones looked very natural. When using Macro mode, we found that the flash does an excellent job of “throttling down” to ensure that it doesn’t overexpose the subject.”

Canon PowerShot A610Photo.net have reviewed the new 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A610 digital camera.

“The Powershot A610 has 5 ISO settings, Auto, 50, 100, 200 and 400. The auto setting isn’t as useful as it might be in dim light because it seems very reluctant to use ISO 400 and so gives shutter speeds slower than might be easily handheld under some circumstances. Noise at ISO 50 is very low and even at ISO 100 is pretty good. There is a noticeable increase in noise at ISO 200 and even more at 400 (as expected). However even at ISO 400 I would say noise isn’t excessive. For example in a 4x6 print of an ISO 400 image, noise isn’t really a problem unless you look for it in areas of uniform tone. Pixel peepers - those looking at screen images at 100% magnification - may be bothered by it, but by digicam standards, it’s not bad.”

Nikon Coolpix P1Pocket-Lint have published a review of the Nikon Coolpix P2 Wi-Fi digital camera.

“In terms of image quality, the one image quality downside is some intrusive noise in shadows, even at ISO 100 and with the noise reduction mode activated. Otherwise, the P2 provides a comprehensive package of metering (spot, centre-weighted and matrix) AF modes, burst shooting (up to 30fps) and an interval shooting mode. Slight underexposure seemed the norm but otherwise the image quality is exemplary, crisp, and colourful and with exposure compensation and D-Lighting as back-up, the images were superb.”

Fujifilm FinePix S9500 ZoomPhotoxels have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix S9500 Zoom, a new 9 megapixel digital camera with a 28-300mm lens with twist-barrel zoom control (also known as the S9000).

“The image quality on the Fujifilm S9000 is very good to excellent, though not approaching the exceptional low noise capability of the F10. Nevertheless, this disappointment aside [editor: and it’s a big disappointment for many fans who were expecting nothing less], the Fujifilm S9000 trounces its competitors. None of its competitors offer ISO 800 or 1600, and the S9000’s ISO 1600 is comparable to their ISO 400. Very impressive, so don’t lose sight of this accomplishment.”

Nikon Coolpix P1DigitalCameraInfo have published a review of the 8 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P1 Wi-Fi digital camera.

“Nikon started with a basic set of features – 8 megapixels, 3.5x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD screen – and crammed them in a compact body with a built-in wireless port. The consumer wireless market is quite new and the P1 is one of the first three models in this new segment. The P1 has stiff competition and answers with more megapixels and a bit more manual functionality. However, the Nikon Coolpix P1 also skimps in some very important areas. The 2.5-inch LCD screen has only 110,000 pixels, making the view not as smooth as the view from other models. Also, the wireless port is built-in but the setup itself isn’t wireless. It requires users to connect the camera with the USB cable to save the computer and printer profiles on the P1. Pictures and movies on the P1 can only be transferred to PictureProject software and PictBridge printers with the optional wireless printer adapter. Pictures cannot be emailed directly from the camera or showcased on online albums, so the P1 doesn’t realize the full potential of WiFi.”

Fujifilm FinePix S9500 ZoomPCMagazine have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix S9500 Zoom, a new 9 megapixel digital camera with a 28-300mm lens with twist-barrel zoom control (also known as the S9000).

“In addition to offering some of the benefits you get from a D-SLR, the Fuji FinePix S9000 has a 10.7X optical zoom lens—better than what’s included in most D-SLR kits. But the S9000 has some stiff competition in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30, our current Editors’ Choice for superzooms. Although priced the same ($650 street), the S9000 can’t quite match the outstanding quality, performance, and ease of use of the FZ30.”

Canon IXUS i ZoomImaging Resource have just reviewed the new Canon IXUS i Zoom digital camera (also known as the SD30). The Canon IXUS i Zoom is a 5 megapixel model with a 2.4x optical zoom lens and 1.8 inch LCD screen.

“Smaller if not thinner than many subcompacts, it uses a dock for USB transfers, to charge its Li-ion battery and for A/V output. Available in black, red, gold, or violet body colors, the 5.0-megapixel SD30 relies on a 1.8-inch LCD instead of an optical viewfinder for composing shots. Recording modes include the extremely unusual (and frankly, rather cool) “My Color” modes that allow you to selectively replace any color in your photo with a different one, or to make the image black and white with the exception of a single color. Overall, the PowerShot SD30 is one of the more appealing subcompact digicams we’ve seen.”

Samsung Digimax i5Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new Samsung Digimax i5, a slim 5 megapixel digital camera with 3x optical internal zoom lens equivalent to 39-117mm and a 2.5” 230K-pixel high resolution LCD.

“With the Samsung Digimax i5, we found that it had enough resolution to make very good-looking 8x10 inch prints. At 11x14, its prints were a bit softer looking, but more than adequate for wall or table display. At high ISO, image noise levels were generally held in check, but at the cost of some image softness. ISO 200 photos looked fine printed at 8x10 inches, but ISO 400 ones were a little marginal there, with increased softness and visible colored flecks from image noise. They’d probably be fine for most people to display on a wall or table, but when looking at them more closely, we found the noise a little distracting.”

Ricoh GR DigitalRicoh have posted a self-indulgent but quite informative look at the development of the new Ricoh GR Digital camera on their website.

“Additionally, we also wanted to make a camera that brought a smile to one’s face, just by holding it. In order to achieve this, we had to concentrate not just on the design and operability, but also the texture and grip of the camera. “I think that this is why there are so many fans of the GR cameras”, said Mr. Higuchi. “We were aiming for a camera that feels good in your hands, that has easy to use buttons and dials, with a lingering sensation of reverberation after pressing the shutter release button. Basically, the camera should communicate a sense of comfort from the moment it is in your hands, with a continued feeling of “enjoyment” from the second you switch the power on.”

Olympus FE-120CNET have reviewed the Olympus FE-120, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x zoom lens and 1.8 inch LCD screen.

“Easy to operate because it doesn’t give you much to adjust, the FE-120 provides 19 shooting modes, macro capabilities that zoom down to within an inch of your subject, and a robust continuous-shooting mode that can capture 20 full-resolution images at a 1.1fps clip. Autofocus performance is poor, however, and motion-picture resolution is limited to 320x240 pixels. Even so, priced only $30 to $50 more than its 4-and 5-megapixel stablemates, the Olympus FE-100 and FE-110, this top-end version is easily the most desirable of the bunch.”

Nikon Coolpix P1CNET have published a review of the 8 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P1 Wi-Fi digital camera.

“Image quality is very good on the Nikon Coolpix P1, with neutral color balance and minimal lens and processing artifacts. Flesh tones are pleasing and warm, showing little ruddiness even with flash. The lens-and-sensor combination provides fairly sharp images. The smart exposure system makes it very hard to blow out highlights, though unfortunately, its compression of the dynamic range means shadow detail suffers. Flaws are minor; we noticed a bit of vignetting and barrel distortion in our test shots, but it was hard to see in everyday snapshots. We did see purple fringing in backlit scenes when viewing photos at full size, though.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6DigitalCameraInfo have published their review of the Konica Minolta Z6, which updates the popular Z5 and features a 6 megapixel sensor, 12x zoom lens and 2 inch LCD screen.

“The DiMAGE Z6 is a budget compact camera with a 12x lens. It’s not budget in terms of construction – Konica Minolta’s Anti-Shake mechanism moves the CCD, not a lens element, after all. It performs like a budget camera, though. An ultra zoom should have more serious capability than the Z6 offers. The displays aren’t good enough to check the images; they’re small, and low-resolution. The ISO ratings are limiting, too. ISO 320 just isn’t good enough for available light shooting indoors. A fair number of bird watchers use super zooms, and ISO 320 sure won’t be good enough to catch the twilight-feeding warblers and finches. “
