DPReview have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FX9, a 6 megapixel compact digital camera with optical image stabilizer, 3x Leica lens and 2.5-inch LCD screen with 207,000 pixels.
“It is a tribute to Panasonic’s designers that they managed to squeeze as much as they did into the FX9’s diminutive body, and there’s no denying it is the kind of camera that simply begs to be taken everywhere you go. The screen is fantastic (and a huge improvement on it’s predecessors), it’s fast, fun to use and capable of surprisingly good results. The Leica lens is certainly no slouch in the resolution stakes, exposure is - though by no means perfect - as good as any other camera in this class, and the auto white balance very good indeed.”

Engadget have a few pictures of an as-yet-unannounced digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare V570. Apparently the new V570 will have 5 megapixels, a 2.5 inch LCD screen and more strangely a dual lens system. It seems that the Kodak V570 will have two non-extending lenses, one “ultrawide” and one “5x zoom” - I’m not entirely sure how this system will work. Other features include the usual docking station and support for SD memory cards.

Pocket-Lint has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S2, an updated version of the S1 digital camera (which is only just starting to appear in stores). The main changes to the 5 megapixel Nikon S2 are the addition of a weather-proof body and a sliding lens mechanism.
“The 3x zoom lens has a 35-105mm focal range with a modest F/3.0 maximum aperture, and it is this that hails the start of my few grumbles. The lens suffers from marked barrel distortion and the restrictive maximum aperture makes camera shake an issue in lower lighting conditions or at full zoom, where the effective maximum aperture of F/5.4 becomes an issue for steady shots.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have published their review of the Casio EX-S500, a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.2 inch LCD screen.
“Casio has joined the exclusive 1-megapixel per ounce club with its Exilim EX-S500, supplying 5-megapixels of resolution in a package weighing only 4 1/2 ounces, including battery, SD memory card and wrist strap. Just as remarkable, Casio squeezed a 2.2-inch LCD monitor and a 3x optical zoom lens into the EX-S500’s credit card-sized, stylish and durable metal body. The EX-S500’s Automatic and Best Shot scene modes will help beginners capture pleasing snapshots, but the camera lacks the manual, aperture-priority and shutter-priority exposure modes demanded by experienced photographers.”

DigitalCameraInfo have published their review of the new Sony DSC-H1 digital camera. The DSC-H1 has a 12x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 36-432 millimeters), 5 megapixel CCD and 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“As the digital camera market matures and consumers want better cameras, more people are growing tired of their 3x optical zoom lenses. Enter the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1. This digital camera has a 12x optical zoom lens with the option of attaching wide angle and telephoto conversion lenses. It also has 5.1 megapixels, which is enough juice to pump out 11 x 17-inch prints. The H1 heads up Sony’s “enthusiast” series with a huge lens, 2.5-inch LCD screen, manual and automatic shooting capabilities, and a highly coveted image stabilization system. For the $499.95 retail price, photographers can get versatility from this digital camera without having to dish out more money for an SLR.”

DCResource have taken a look at the new Samsung Digimax i5, a slim 5 megapixel digital camera with 3x optical internal zoom lens equivalent to 39-117mm and a 2.5” 230K-pixel high resolution LCD.
“I applaud Samsung for going above and beyond the call of duty in the bundled memory department. Like many manufacturers, Samsung choose to build memory right into the i5 instead of supplying a memory card. On most cameras in this class, that means anywhere from 8.3 to 16 Megabytes of internal memory. Not Samsung—they put a whopping 50MB of internal memory on the i5, something that separates it from everything else in this class. If you want to add more memory, you can buy a Secure Digital or MultiMedia card and put it into the slot on the bottom of the camera. I’d suggest a 256MB SD card as a good starting point. A high speed SD card does make a difference, especially when shooting in continuous mode.”

DesignTechnica have published their review of the 5 megapixel, 10x zoom Kodak EasyShare Z740 digital camera.
“Once the photos were taken the true blessing of the bundle makes itself very clear. Rather than run down to the local drugstore or mass merchant to use a photo kiosk to make prints, I simply placed the camera in the dock. It automatically sprung to life and asked how many prints I wanted of the image on the LCD screen. After picking the number and pressing print, in about 90 seconds a very high quality photo appeared. By simply tearing off the edges, I had a smooth-edged 4x6 in my hand. Very cool indeed.”

DigiCamReview have published their review of the Ricoh Caplio GX8, an 8.24 megapixel update of the Ricoh Caplio GX.
“Ricoh’s Caplio GX8 is a slim and compact 8.2-Megapixel digital camera that commands one of the world’s fastest shutter response time, super-close macro mode and a fast start-up time of 1.3 seconds. The wholly-black camera is quicker, lighter and even easier to use than its wide-angle lens predecessor, the Caplio GX, but only offers a 3x optical zoom lens. Nevertheless, it can easily slip into a jacket pocket, is a snap to use and produces excellent quality images. You’ll struggle to find a camera in this price bracket that offers so much functionality or that produces such good images.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LZ1, which has a 6x optical zoom lenses and an Optical Image Stabilizer to combat camera shake.
“Priced about $50 less than its 5-megapixel Lumix DMC-LZ2 sibling, this affordable point-and-shoot offers the same 6X zoom lens with a 37mm-to-222mm reach (35mm-camera equivalent) and the same highly desirable optical image stabilization to counter shaky hands at slow shutter speeds or high magnifications. Panasonic trimmed about a million pixels to create this 4-megapixel version, but its image quality is almost as good as the higher-res model’s. The only key feature missing is a microphone to record video sound clips.”

ByteSector have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, which has an ISO range of 80 to 1600, Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“This is one of those few cameras with that killer feature I was just talking about. This little 6.3 MP point-and-shoot has the ability to shoot images with film speeds as high as ISO1600 and as low as ISO80. In theory, this means it’ll be possible to shoot in just about any situation, regardless of shutter speeds or room lighting. If this were an SLR or even an SLR-styled camera, I wouldn’t have looked twice. But this is pretty much unheard of in a digital point-and-shoot. Aside from this feature, I’ll be looking at whether or not the camera has everything it needs to compete and whether or not it’s worth the MSRP of $530 CAD.”

DesignTechnica have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Zoom, a 5 megapixel compact digital camera with a large 2.5inch LCD screen and 3 optical zoom.
“The camera easily focused on flowers, plants as well as trees with strong blue skies quickly with little “grabbing.” It was here that I had my first problems. Since I purposely tried to shoot with the bright sun shining directly on the screen, I immediately ran into problems. Although the screen didn’t wipe out, I had trouble framing the image. Instead of holding the camera in a comfortable arm’s out position, I had to bring the camera much closer to my face so my head could act as a block (no jokes, please). It was better, but a little viewfinder would’ve solved those problems like the one on the Canon SD500.”

DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, which has an ISO range of 80 to 1600, Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“The F10 has no “jaggies” to speak of at all, and the photos are very smooth, with little evidence of compression (look at the sky in the photos below). Noise is way below average for a 6 Megapixel point-and-shoot camera, and truly rivals dSLRs that are much more expensive. Overall photo quality from the F10 is excellent, and an amazing performance from such a small, relatively inexpensive camera. If I wasn’t fortunate enough to own a dSLR, the F10 would make a fine substitute for someone as picky as I am about picture quality.”
