Billed as Canon’s slimmest ever 30x optical zoom camera, the new PowerShot SX700 HS features a 16-megapixel CMOS imager, 25-750mm equivalent superzoom lens, Full HD 60p movies with stereo sound, and integrated Wi-Fi with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Offering Manual, Av and Tv shooting modes, the Canon Powershot SX700 HS also boasts a five-axis Enhanced Dynamic IS mode that stabilises movies and stills alike. The new Wi-Fi connectivity includes remote shooting from smartphones and allows you to keep your images backed up with Image Sync, which lets you wirelessly transfer shots to cloud storage destinations including Canon Image Gateway, Flickr and Google Drive. The Canon PowerShot SX700 HS will be available from March 2014 with an SRP of £329.00/€399.00/$349.99.

Canon today added a trio of new high-zoom cameras to its IXUS series. The 20-megapixel Canon IXUS 155 (called the ELPH 150 IS in North America, £129/€149/$150) offers 10x optical zoom in a stylish ultra compact body with metal exterior (pictured). The Canon IXUS 150 (ELPH 140 IS, £109/€129/$130) and IXUS 145 (ELPH 135, £99/€119/120) come equipped with 16-megapixel sensors and 8x optical zoom. The IXUS 155 and IXUS 150 feature Canon’s advanced optical Image Stabiliser with Intelligent IS technology. When it comes to video recording, all three models are limited to 720p resolution for reasons inherent in the properties of their CCD sensors. The Canon IXUS 145, IXUS 150 and IXUS 155 will be available later this month.

Canon today announced its newest rugged camera, the PowerShot D30. Waterproof to depths of up to 25m, shockproof for drops of up to 2.0m and freezeproof down to -10 °C, the CanonPowerShot D30 utilises a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 28-140mm equivalent lens, as well as an on-board GPS module. Its special underwater shooting mode and the easily accessible Custom White Balance function allow you to quickly adjust settings for natural colours when submerged. In addition to capturing twelve-megapixel stills, the Canon PowerShot D30 can also record Full HD videos at the touch of a dedicated movie record button. A bright 3", 460k-dot LCD screen with Sunlight LCD mode rounds off the features list. Sigma has announced the Sigma dp Quattro line of large-sensor compact cameras, which feature a new-generation Foveon sensor and a radically new design. The Sigma dp1 Quattro, dp2 Quattro and dp3 Quattro each come equipped with a newly developed, APS-C sized Foveon X3 Quattro sensor, which outputs 5424x3616-pixel raw images at the highest resolution setting. Like before, the various models in the dp series differ from each other in the optics: the dp1 Quattro comes with a 19mm (28mm eq.) f/2.8 lens featuring 9 elements in 8 groups and a 9-bladed diaphragm, the dp2 Quattro (pictured) has a 30mm (45mm eq.) f/2.8 lens with 8 elements in 6 groups, while the Sigma dp3 Quattro is equipped with a 50mm (75mm eq.) f/2.8 lens constructed of 10 elements in 8 groups and a 7-bladed iris diaphragm. Availability and pricing have yet to be communicated.

Casio Japan has announced the Exillim EX-100 HS digital camera, which boasts a 28-300mm (eq.) lens with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, 1/1.7-type back-illuminated CMOS sensor and tilting 3.5" LCD screen. Other notable features include manual controls, raw image capture, 6fps continuous shooting with auto focus, on-board Wi-Fi, HDR exposure blending, interval shooting, time-lapse and slow.motion movie recording, electronic level function and an interesting "all-in-focus macro" feature that combines focus bracketing with high-speed continuous shooting to create a focus-stacked image with expanded depth of field. Currently, there is no information on international availability and pricing.

The Ricoh WG-4 is a new 16-megapixel water-, crush-, shock- and freezeproof compact camera with a fast wide-angle lens. Equipped with a 25-100mm (eq.) f/2.0-4.9 lens, the Ricoh WG-4 comes in two versions, with and without GPS. Thanks to the upgraded AF algorithm, the focusing speed in macro shooting has been greatly increased to facilitate close-up applications, the company says. Designed for the adventurous photographer, the WG-4 and WG-4 GPS (pictured) are waterproof to a depth of 14 metres, shock-resistant against a fall from a height of two metres, dustproof, freezeproof down to -10°C, and crushproof to 100kg. Other highlights include six LED macro lights to assist close-up shooting, sensor-shift image stabilisation and Full HD video recording capabilities. The new WG-4 GPS is available in a choice of blue or black for a price of £329.99 / $379.95.
