DigiCamReview have posted a review of the entry-level Olympus C-500 Zoom digicam (also known as the D-595).
” Image quality is very good, the images have good colour, saturation, contrast and good detail - however there is some purple fringing. Images tend to come out of the camera looking very good. The camera did a good job focusing - although in low-light did struggle. Noise was on the low side, even up to ISO400, however I did notice a colour shift at ISO400. I didn’t notice any vignetting in the corners. There is a small range of image sizes and a very small choice of compression options. The super macro mode is very good. Auto white balance and metering seemed to be very good. Red-eye was controlled quite well. The movie mode is slightly better than average, at 320x240 / 30fps with sound.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the 5 megapixel, 8x zoom Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20.
“The Z20 did a very good job with color, producing accurate, natural, and pleasing results in just about every instance. Colors were generally hue-accurate and appropriately saturated. Skin tones were very good (just slightly pinkish, but within acceptable limits), and even the very difficult blue flowers in the “Sunlit” portrait shot were rendered very well. The camera’s white balance system also handled the very difficult incandescent lighting of our Indoor Portrait test very well. A very good job overall.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the 5 megapixel, 8x zoom Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20.
“Design wise, the Z20 cuts corners in terms of visibility, offering a choice between a 1.5 inch, 113K pixel LCD screen and an equally inept viewfinder that displays images appearing as if projected through a sequence of screens. The lack of image quality and uncomfortable design make the viewfinder unsuitable for prolonged use. Potential consumer should not overlook these flaws, as they will certainly compromise the recorded image at times as well as the shooting experience, but the Z20 will offer full manual control, long zoom, and a lower price than other models on the market with the same size CCD.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have just reviewed the Casio Exilim EX-Z57, a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with a 2.7 inch LCD screen.
“Indoors it also performs well. Considering it lacks a focus-assist lamp, the AF system does an excellent job of focusing in low ambient lighting. Our indoor samples were sharp, well exposed, and skin tones appear natural. Its flash and 35mm wide angle equivalent zoom range are sufficient for most indoor situations; but don’t expect to illuminate the entire dance floor or reception hall. We achieved the best results shooting portraits of individuals or small groups. However, due to the position of the flash (just above the lens), you will notice that the majority of your “people” shots will have traces of Red eye, even when using its Red Eye Reduction mode. But a few seconds in any image editor/viewer will take care of this problem.”

DPReview have just published their review of the Canon Digital IXUS 700 digital camera (also known as the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital ELPH).
“It’s not without reason that the IXUS/Elph range has proved so popular; the combination of size, design and materials, performance and decent image quality is a compelling one. The SD500 is no exception; it’s fast, easy to use and capable of producing first-class results in the right situations - and it has all the hallmarks of a design classic. But it’s not a camera without problems. Some, such as the rather erratic behavior of the AiAF ‘intelligent’ focus system, can be easily overcome (switch to center focus), others, such as the SD500’s tendency to miss fine low-contrast detail, will only really cause you a problem if you’re printing at sizes over about 8x10 inches.”

CNET have just reviewed the 5 megapixel Sony DSC-F88 digital camera.
“Sony’s latest jack-of-all-trades is a master of more than one. While its easy operation and versatile automated and manual exposure controls will please both beginners and more advanced photographers, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-F88 boasts very good macro capabilities and a robust burst mode perfect for action photography. Only a few spotty performance figures such as atrocious shutter lag under low-contrast lighting and a middle-of-the-road feature set limit this well-rounded 5-megapixel shooter.”

Photoxels have posted their review of the new 5 megapixel Olympus C-5500 Sport Zoom digital camera (called the C-55 Sports Zoom in the rest of the world).
“The Olympus Camedia C-5500 Zoom is a full-featured digital camera with excellent image quality, very low noise and fast operation with no practical shutter lag. It is all put together in a camera that is both comfortable to hold and operate. It is extremely easy to take good pictures with the Olympus C-5500 and, after one month’s constant use, the overall feeling is that this is a camera that delivers for beginner and serious amateur photographers. It is put together well and pretty intuitive to use, despite Olympus’ traditional reliance on the menu.”

DigitalCameraInfo have just published their review of the Canon Digital IXUS 700 digital camera (also known as the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital ELPH).
“Canon’s Digital ELPH series aims for style and appeal, so the SD500’s slim profile and attractive silver finish follow suit. The camera is rectangular with a slight curve on the left side (when viewing from the front). This model does depart from the series’ sharp, flat lines with its “Perpetual Curve Design” apparent on the side with the right-hand grip. The surfaces remain fairly flat, as the camera is designed more for portability than shooting comfort. The SD500 is built for slipping in a pocket and taking a few shots at a party – not for two-hour photo shoots on the sideline of a basketball court. Canon engineers developed the curve design to make the camera more comfortable to hold; however, it’s still not sufficient for extended periods of photography. Canon didn’t sacrifice style; the brushed steel color with shiny highlights and attractive design is quite a sexy piece of machinery.”

PCMagazine have reviewed the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LZ1, which has a 6x optical zoom lenses and an Optical Image Stabilizer to combat camera shake.
“This new addition to the Panasonic Lumix series of digital cameras offers some interesting features in a lightweight, relatively compact body. The 4-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1 is not the sexiest or sleekest model in town, but no one will laugh at you if you pull it out at a party. And at $249.95, it won’t leave you broke, either. Image quality, however, suffers a bit from exposure problems, and flash shots have some jagged edges.”

PCMagazine have published their review of the 5 megapixel Epson L-500V digital camera.
“The Epson L-500V’s most notable feature is a gorgeous 2.5-inch LCD, into which Epson’s Photo Fine Technology is incorporated. The screen displays 196,608 pixels: 70 percent more than a typical 2.5-inch LCD like the one on the Casio Exilim EX-Z55. The L-500V has no optical viewfinder, but framing our shots using the LCD was accurate and easy, except in very bright sunlight when reflections and glare sometimes made it hard to see. And in very low light, we saw more noise in the display than we had noticed in other LCDs. But under normal conditions, images on the LCD were crisp and bright.”
