PCMagazine have published their review of the 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot A520 digital camera.
“The A520’s body resembles a compressed version of the A85, mostly because Canon opted to make this model run on two double-A batteries instead of four. The only other noticeable differences are that the AF assist lamp on the front has been moved to the opposite side of the optical viewfinder and the microphone has been moved ever so slightly. The LCD is still 1.8 inches (diagonal), but the lens has undergone some changes: It is now an f/2.6 to f/5.5, 5.8- to 23.2-mm (35- to 140-mm, 35-mm equivalent), 4X optical zoom lens. The greater magnification favors the telephoto end a bit, so you may have to back up to get wide-angle shots. Luckily, the camera accepts conversion lenses and filters. The shutter button is no longer tilted forward, as it is on the A85, but this isn’t an ergonomic disaster. And we’re still not crazy about the zoom ring around the shutter button.”

DCResource have jointly reviewed the new 7 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7900 and 5 megapixel Coolpix 5900, which both have a 2.0-inch LCD screen, new graphical user interface and a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens equivalent to 38-114mm lens in 35mm format.
“The Coolpix 5900 and 7900 are compact but not tiny cameras (wait for the Coolpix S1 if you want that) with sturdy metal frames. They’re easy to hold and operate with one hand, and they can go anywhere that you do. The Coolpix 5900 comes in silver while the 7900 comes in a more “professional looking” black. The Coolpixes offer a large 2.0” LCD that works very well in low light conditions. Photo quality on both cameras is very good, though I would up the sharpness to “high”, since the images are a little soft at the default sharpness setting. The only other image quality issue I noticed is a tiny bit of blurriness in the corners of some of my photos. Camera performance is good in most areas including startup speed, focusing times, and shutter lag. Low light focusing was very good thanks to the cameras’ AF-assist lamps. Battery life was also above average.”

TrustedReviews have enthusiastically reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix 7900, a 7 megapixel digital camera featuring a 2.0-inch LCD screen, new graphical user interface and a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens equivalent to 38-114mm lens in 35mm format.
“The sample shots I’ve taken with this camera are some of the best photos I’ve taken this year; in fact some of them are so good I’m not going to publish them here. Instead I’m going to sell them to a picture library, and I’m pretty sure they’ll take them. Don’t worry, the sample shots at the end of this review are good, but when you’re looking at them remember that this camera can do even better. Also bear in mind that all the shots were taken using the default auto settings, apart from the beach shots which were taken using the beach/snow scene mode.”

CNET have just reviewed the compact 4.1 Megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F450 Zoom.
“The beauty of capitalism is that, when consumers clamor for sleek point-and-shoot cameras that take printable photos, manufacturers will fall over themselves to churn out models with portable designs and higher pixel counts. The 5-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F450 stands as a somewhat exaggerated case in point; though it boasts a pocket-size, uniquely shaped body and a high-resolution sensor, it lacks all but the most rudimentary manual features and makes several compromises in image quality.”

CNET have just reviewed the 5 megapixel Kodak Easyshare LS753, which was first announced back in January 2005.
“Image quality was generally good but suffered from purple fringing around many backlit subjects. Exposures were solid, with lots of detail in shadows and highlights, while colors, especially flesh tones, were realistic with the right amount of saturation. However, the images were much softer than we expected from a 5-megapixel camera, and there were lots of JPEG artifacts to be found. The camera’s default ISO 80 to ISO 160 sensitivity settings produced little noise, but this grainy effect was quite visible at ISO 400 and above.”

BIOS have published a review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.
“Canon’s EOS 350D Digital (Digital Rebel XT in the US) combines ease of use, a robust design, and many of the same compelling technologies found in Canon’s professional series EOS cameras, making it an excellent camera for the money. Image quality is up slightly on its predecessor thanks to a new CMOS sensor and improved DIGIC image processing, its high-ISO performance was impressive, and its low shutter lag and nearly instant power on time will prove popular for impulsive snappers. For travellers wanting a powerful digital camera with the option of different lenses, you’ll not find a more portable or capable SLR in this price range.”

Digital Camera Review have posted their review of the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 digital camera.
“The P200 is not just all looks. Inside the stylish, compact body is a high quality camera that can handle shots in a wide variety of conditions. For a high quality, 7.2 megapixel, point and shoot camera, the current retail price of $400 is very reasonable. The camera is a great point-and-shoot for people who like a small, stylish camera, yet has enough options to let an enthusiast do some experimentation. It’s small enough to make a good travel camera, but can also take images that are nice enough to print keepsake photos.”

Luminous Landscape have reviewed the Epson RD-1 digital rangefinder camera.
“When it comes to actually shooting (the whole digital / film issue aside for the moment), the camera is mostly a pleasure to use. This assumes though that one is used to the rangefinder esthetic. Frankly, unless one has grown up with or extensively used a real rangefinder camera, this is likely not to be the case. For a photographer used to SLRs the chances are that using the R-D1 (or any rangefinder for that matter) is going to be found to be a funky experience. But assuming that one knows what the breed is all about, there really isn’t that much difference between shooting with the R-D1 and a Voigtlander Bessa or even M Leica. “

DPReview have reviewed the 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5. With a 12x image stabilized Leica lens, the DMC-FZ5 improves on the DMC-FZ3 by offering faster auto-focus and improved body design, as well as more megapixels.
“The DMC-FZ5 solves the only two reservations most people had about its predecessor (the DMC-FZ3); fairly low pixel count and slightly sluggish focus (especially at the long end of the zoom). It also adds a bigger, better screen, slightly better ergonomics and seems to have almost entirely removed the vignetting problem that plagued FZ3 shots. Put all these improvements together and you’ve got an incredibly powerful, incredibly compact camera capable of punching well above its weight.”

Pocket Lint have published their review of the 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot A520 digital camera.
“Image quality is very good indeed. Colours are natural and bright, the in-camera processing provides plenty of detail, although highlights look a bit blown out on some spectral highlights. Higher ISO present a problem where noise and the affects of noise reduction processing clean away some detail but overall, very good.”

The Digital Journalist have reviewed the Epson RD-1 digital rangefinder camera.
“The rub with the R-D1 is that unless you want to put an auxiliary viewfinder on the hotshoe, and frame and focus through two different windows, the widest lens you can use is a 28mm. And because of the R-D1’s smaller-than-35mm chip, this gives you the equivalent of a 42mm lens in 35mm terms. The narrower angle of view can be restrictive, but it does force you to discipline yourself; you have to jockey for position a little more. I’m a one-film, one-lens guy anyway. The 21mm Leica lens would be ideal on the R-D1, about equivalent to 32mm, if only you didn’t have to compose with the separate finder.”

DigiCamReview have reviewed the 3 megapixel, 12x optical zoom Panasonic DMC-FZ3 digital camera.
“The camera is compact and is designed well - the camera feels very comfortable in my hands, and seems like a “real” camera. The camera is fairly compact considering the zoom power. The camera is easy to use, the menu system is easy to use and there is a good layout of buttons and controls. There is a good choice of features and options to suit all levels of experience, from shutter/aperture control to scene modes, as well as manual white balance, live histogram etc - although some may be dissapointed to find that there is no manual focus. The camera speed is good, with a okay switch on time, good focusing time, and good shutter response.”
