HP Photosmart R707Steves Digicams have reviewed the new HP Photosmart R707, a stylish 5 megapixel digital camera.

“Overall the image quality in 5MP *** mode was great for a camera in this class. Outdoors, the camera does very well, and its 3x optical zoom lens produces sharp results through out its range. The majority of our test shots were well exposed, and colors were nicely saturated, although I did notice an average amount of noise in High/Low contrast areas. I found the Adaptive Lighting feature to be useful when shooting either indoors or outdoors, the camera increases the gamma of the image to better enhance the detail of objects in low contrast (shadow) areas, but the image quality does suffer a little, if you’re not going to print anything larger than an 8x10” you should be fine. I was also happy with our indoor samples, images were properly exposed and skin tones appeared very natural.”

Fuji FinePix F700The Crutchfield Advisor website have just reviewed the Fuji FinePix F700. Fuji claims the the F700 sensor improves image quality by widening the dynamic range, rather than just increasing the number of pixels. This should mean more detail in the shadow and highlight areas of an image than Fuji cameras have previously captured.

“At first glance, the FinePix F700 looks like a sleek and slender, very solidly built point-and-shoot camera. Even if you?ve just fallen off the digital camera turnip truck, you can figure out how to operate the basics of the F700 in a matter of seconds. Just turn it on and make sure the dial is set to “auto” - you can use the F700 as a true point-and-shoot camera. And getting your images from the camera to your computer is as simple as connecting the two via the included USB cable and clicking a button.”

Olympus C-8080 Wide ZoomByteSector have just reviewed the 8-megapixel Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom digital camera.

“The image quality is just excellent; the C-8080 is not as good as the PowerShot Pro1 in quality but it is better then the DiMage A2. The colour results are very natural and there are no distortions or odd hues. There is very little noise found and a noise reduction option is also available in the menu. For me this camera produces an overall balanced image; everything is just perfect, not overdone or underdone but natural. “

Pentax Optio 33WRCNET have posted their review of the Pentax Optio 33WR, a compact 3-megapixel camera with a 2.8x optical zoom and a weather resistant case.

“The water-resistant, 3.2-megapixel Optio 33WR is better equipped than most of us to handle inclement weather. Outfitted with Pentax extras, this compact camera offers a broad array of features that stretch the bounds of snapshot photography. Its 2.8X zoom lens provides enough flexibility for taking typical point-and-shoot pictures, and its photo quality is decent, although not above average for its class.”

Olympus C-8080 Wide ZoomPhotoxels have just reviewed the 8-megapixel Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom digital camera.

Image quality is excellent with minimal CA and no noise at ISO 50. Other professional features are a live histogram (with a unique “direct” feature), high quality EVF that is viewable in dim light, and wide-angle zoom.”

Olympus CAMEDIA C-60 ZOOMImaging Resource have just reviewed the 6 megapixel Olympus CAMEDIA C-60 ZOOM.

“On the whole, I think the C-60’s positives more than outweigh its negatives, but how you feel about them will depend a lot on the sort of shooting you intend to do, and how you intend to use your images. If you need to shoot at high ISOs a lot and make large prints (larger than 8x10) with the results, the C-60’s image noise could be a factor. On the other hand, point and shoot users mainly making 4x6 prints probably won’t be aware of it.”

And like Apple’s tr?s chic MP3 player, it comes in four colors: red, blue, black, and silver. In addition to looking slick, the U40 is fast. However, it has some drawbacks. Kyocera Finecam S3RDCMAG.co.uk have just published their review of the 3 megapixel Kyocera FineCam S3R.

“The S5R was amongst the first of Kyocera’s range of compacts to feature the powerful RTUNE chip. This technology is now finding its way into more mainstream and accordingly affordable cameras. With the RTune processor at its heart, the Finecam S3R has an excellent turn of speed and a minimal three second start up time. With the appropriate memory ? 16Mb is included in the bundle ? the S3R can capture three shots a second continuously. Should you wish to take video clips rather than a succession of stills, the S3R can record 640x480 AVI files at thirty frames per second, again only limited by the confines of the storage.”

Fuji FinePix S3000DCMAG.co.uk have reviewed the Fuji FinePix S3000 digital camera, which features 3.24 effective million pixels, 6X Fujinon optical zoom and digital movie recording. The S300 uses xD-Picture Card (16MB to 512MB) storage and its lens focal length is equivalent to 38-228mm on a 35mm camera. The list price for the S300 is £290 / $399.95.

“The one sticking point with the S3000 is the electronic viewfinder, a small LCD screen mounted within the eyepiece. A proper optical viewfinder is, to many enthusiasts, superior to an EVF, because if you?re shooting in less-than-perfect lighting with an EVF, gauging your composition becomes sheer guesswork. A sensor tries to overcome the disparities between light and shade, but you often lose detail in areas of shade, even if they may be intelligible in the final photograph thanks to flash.”
