Olympus D-580 ZoomCNET have reviewed the Olympus D-580 Zoom which has 4 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens (also known as the C-360 Zoom in some parts of the world).

“The Olympus Camedia D-580 Zoom shares its lens, sensor, and many other features with its upscale sibling, the Stylus 410. If you want 4-megapixel quality, prefer AA batteries over a bundled lithium-ion cell, and don’t need the Stylus 410’s water resistance, this camera offers a budget-priced point-and-shoot alternative.”

Samsung Digimax U-CA 3CNET have posted their review of the Samsung Digimax U-CA 3, a 3 megapixel digital camera aimed at the young photographer or the budding photo enthusiast.

“Our test photos were certainly acceptable, displaying appropriate, even exposures across the board and lots of detail in the shadows, though lighter tones had a tendency to wash out. Our macro results were especially pleasing, with excellent sharpness and reliable automatic focusing. Noise levels were low at ISO 100 but predictably became noticeable at ISO 400.”

Nikon Coolpix 8700Photoxels have published their review of the new 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital camera.

“Another professional feature of the Coolpix 8700 that is directly related to image quality is the ability to record images in RAW file format. It takes about 12-15 sec. (though at times, it took up to 30 sec.) to save a RAW (Nikon NEF) or HI (TIFF) image (using a SanDisk Ultra II 256MB memory card). Unfortunately, the 8700 does not have a RAW internal buffer and you have to wait for the camera to finish writing to memory card before you can shoot the next picture.”

Ricoh Caplio RXShuttertalk have just reviewed the Ricoh Caplio RX, the 3 megapixel successor to the Caplio G4 Wide.

“The macro mode is quite remarkable on this camera - objects can be minimum of 1cm away. Focusing was fast, and I was able to achieve a focus lock most of the time. The camera was also smart enough to throttle the flash power back when in macro mode, so that objects weren?t washed out. Overall, this camera produced some good macro shots.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE G600Steves Digicams have just reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMAGE G600, a value-packed, high performance 6 megapixel digital camera.

“We were pleased with the G600’s outdoor shooting results. The lens produced sharp results throughout its 39-117mm (35mm equivalent) zoom range, with a moderate degree of barrel distortion at extreme wide-angle. Chromatic aberrations (purple fringing) were well controlled and nearly absent from our test shots. Our test images were both well exposed and nicely saturated, with colors true to the original subject.”

Canon PowerShot A60CNET have reviewed the 2 magapixel Canon PowerShot A60, which unusually for a cheap digicam ($249) offers a full range of exposure options including Manual, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Priority modes.

“For those who grab pictures for Web display, need only snapshot-size prints, or want an easy-to-use camera to promote their online-auction wares, the Canon PowerShot A60 delivers the goods. If a mere 2 megapixels suits your needs, you won’t have to give up useful features such as versatile exposure options, continuous shooting as fast as 2.6 frames per second, and up-close-and-personal macro capabilities.”

Olympus Mju 410 DigitalCNET have reviewed the Olympus Mju 410 Digital camera. The Mju 410 is encased in a full metal body with a silver finish, offers 4 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom. The Mju 410 is the first Mju Digital model to feature TruePic Turbo, a new image processor which sharpens image clarity, contrast and colour for life-like results. Available now for £299.99 (inc VAT).

“Aspiring sports photographers will snap to attention when they realize this ultracompact camera can grab as many as 11 full-resolution 4-megapixel shots in less than five seconds. However, the lack of an action-shooting mode or a manual shutter-speed control makes this easy-to-use snapshooter better suited for slower-moving sequences and everyday point-and-shoot photography.”

Pentax Optio43WRSteves Digicams are first off the blocks with thier review of the Pentax Optio43WR. This digital camera features 4.0 effective megapixels, a 2.8X zoom lens, and a JIS Class 7 waterproof rating that keeps the Optio43WR watertight even when the camera is rinsed, splashed or submersed in water.

“Its 2.8X optical zoom lens produces sharp results throughout its range, but with noticeable barrel distortion at full wide angle and slight pincushioning at full telephoto. The operation of the optical zoom is smooth and quiet, but not continuous; it moves through its 37-104mm range in 12 distinct steps, more than adequate for composing most shots.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z2Imaging Resource have just reviewed the 4-megapixel, 10x zoom Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z2.

“The original DiMAGE Z1 was clearly one of the best long-zoom digicam bargains on the market, a fact that no doubt contributed to its being one of the most popular cameras on the entire IR site last year. The Z2 carries on in that tradition, adding a higher-resolution CCD chip, some expanded continuous shooting and movie mode options, and a few other more minor enhancements, while still selling at about the same price as the Z1 did last year.”

Fuji FinePix F450 ZoomFujifilm UK Press Release 17/06/04

Fujifilm’s FinePix F440 Zoom and FinePix F450 Zoom: new standards in compact camera design

Release Date: 17 June 2004

Four and five megapixel resolution and 3.4x optical zoom set a new standard in ultra-compact housing

Fujifilm today announced the FinePix F440 Zoom and FinePix F450 Zoom: five and four megapixel resolutions, with a 3.4 times optical zoom, two inch LCD screen, and housed in a design so small that it can be hidden behind a single Post-It Note.

Borrowing the good looks of their predecessors - the popular FinePix F410 and F420 Zoom - the trim figures of these new models are possible thanks to a newly developed lens structure. The clever lens design makes these cameras’ enviable vital statistics achievable (W 74.5 x H 62.3 x D 21.3 mm and a body weight of just 150g).

Leica Digilux 2Luminous Landscape have just published their review of the 5 megapixel Leica Digilux 2 and Panasonic LC1 digital cameras.

“After just a few hundred frames with the LC1 it occurred to me - using it was like shooting with a real camera, not a computer with a lens attached - which is what so many digicams remind me of. Not to disparage all digicams. Some are very good, and though the paradigm is different, one gets used to it. But for long-time photographers who enjoy the feel of shutter speed knobs and aperture rings and the control that a manual focus ring gives, the LC1 / Digilux twins will feel like coming home again.”

Olympus C-765 Ultra ZoomImaging Resource yesterday published their review of the new Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom digital camera.

“Overall, the C-765 produced accurate, pleasing color, under a wide variety of shooting conditions. Hue was accurate in most instances, saturation appropriate (although strong reds and blues tended to oversaturate slightly), and skin tones looked very natural. As is the case with most cameras I test, the C-765’s auto white balance system had a hard time with the household incandescent lighting that’s so common in the US, but its Incandescent and Manual white balance options did very well indeed. All in all, a very nice performance.”
