The Casio Exilim EX-JE10 is a new sixteen-megapixel compact camera that ships with a dedicated ever-ready case. Outfitted with a 1/2.33-type CCD, scratch-resistant 2.7” rear screen and a 26-130mm equivalent f/3.2-6.5 lens, the Casio EX-JE10 is the newest member of the Exilim family. Powered by a proprietary lithium-ion battery, the camera takes microSD(HC/XD) memory cards and comes in three colours including white with golden accents, black and pink, with matching cases (the white version ships with a brown jacket). The Liquid Image Ego is a mountable HD video camera with built-in Wi-Fi. Designed with extreme sports enthusiasts in mind, the Ego includes a multi-directional mounting system with a quick release lever, tripod mount. It records in four modes: Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps; a ‘High Action’ HD 720p video at 60 fps (for capturing fast action with less blurring); 12-megapixel still photo; and a continuous Photo mode. The lens itself is a 136 degrees wide unit, enabling the camera to shoot at a wider angle. The Ego is Wi-Fi enabled allowing users to view footage in real time and stream to their smart phones, tablets, or computers.

The Ego is available in five colours, Black, Red, Blue, White and Yellow and has an RRP of £159.99. It will be available in the UK from August 2012.

Sony Japan has announced a new 18-megapixel ultra-compact camera with 10x optical zoom, Steady Shot technology and a high-resolution touchscreen. Weighing in at a mere 119g, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX170 comes equipped with a 25-250mm (equivalent) f/3.3-5.9 lens bearing the prestigious “G” designation, and a touch-sensitive 3-inch rear screen with a resolution of 921,000 dots. The back-illuminated “EXMOR-R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor enable the camera to shoot at sensitivity settings up to ISO 12,800. Focus acquisition is claimed to be extremely quick for a digital compact camera (0.13 second in bright light and 0.2 second in low light). The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX170 will be available in various Asian markets starting 3 August 2012. Currently, there’s no word on EU/US availability or pricing.

Other highlights include a start-up time of 1.5 seconds, shot-to-shot lag of 0.8s and AF lag of just 0.16s. Samsung today announced the latest addition to its range of Wi-Fi enabled SMART cameras; the MV900F. Featuring a stabilised, 25-125mm equivalent f/2.5-6.3 lens and a 16.3-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, the Samsung MV900F MultiView camera also boasts a 3.3-inch, 180-degree flip-up display, 1920x1080 Full HD video recording at 30fps, and wireless smartphone connectivity. Casio has added three new 16-megapixel compacts to its Exilim range, including the EX-N1, EX-N10 and EX-N20. Each of these models features a 26-130mm equivalent zoom lens, a 2.7” rear LCD screen and HD video recording capabilities. The three cameras are identical to each other except for their outer appearance. The EX-N1 is offered in three “casual” colour variations — blue, pink and white — as well as black and red, with ceramic-like gloss finishes. The EX-N10 features a “dressy” quilted design pattern engraved into the design on the inner surface of the clear case coating. Three colour variations are offered: vivid pink, gold and black. Finally, the EX-N20 features a surface with a textured, leather-like finish. Three colour variations—brown, blue and red—are available. Pricing to be confirmed.
