The Nikon Coolpix S01 is a 10-megapixel ultra-compact with 3x optical zoom, 2.5” touchscreen, 7.3GB of internal memory, built-in battery and a body that’s smaller than a credit card. Other highlights include 720p HD movie recording, an Easy Auto mode with Scene Auto Selector, and Nikon’s EXPEED C2 image processing system. The Nikon Coolpix S01 will be available in September for a suggested retail price of $179.95/£149.99 in a variety of colours including red, white, silver and pink.

The Nikon Coolpix S6400 is a 16-megapixel compact camera with 12x optical zoom and a 3” touchscreen, in a body that’s only 19.8mm thick at the thinnest part. Other highlights include lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR), Easy Panorama, Auto HDR technology, Full HD video capture, a dedicated movie-record button and a Record Pause function that lets you pause and then continue filming, with the camera creating one movie file for smooth playback. The Nikon Coolpix comes in five colours: black, red, silver, purple and blue priced at £229.99.

The Canon PowerShot SX500 IS and the PowerShot SX160 IS are two new superzoom compact cameras. The PowerShot SX500 IS is the world’s smallest 30x optical zoom camera, while the PowerShot SX160 IS features an impressive 16x optical zoom in a compact body. The Canon SX500 IS is available from August, priced at £279/€349/$329.99, and the Canon SX160 IS is available from September, priced at £159/€199/$229.99.

The Casio Exilim EX-JE10 is a new sixteen-megapixel compact camera that ships with a dedicated ever-ready case. Outfitted with a 1/2.33-type CCD, scratch-resistant 2.7” rear screen and a 26-130mm equivalent f/3.2-6.5 lens, the Casio EX-JE10 is the newest member of the Exilim family. Powered by a proprietary lithium-ion battery, the camera takes microSD(HC/XD) memory cards and comes in three colours including white with golden accents, black and pink, with matching cases (the white version ships with a brown jacket). In Japan, the Casio Exilim EX-JE10 will hit the shelves on 14th September. Pricing and international availability to be confirmed.

The Liquid Image Ego is a mountable HD video camera with built-in Wi-Fi. Designed with extreme sports enthusiasts in mind, the Ego includes a multi-directional mounting system with a quick release lever, tripod mount. It records in four modes: Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps; a ‘High Action’ HD 720p video at 60 fps (for capturing fast action with less blurring); 12-megapixel still photo; and a continuous Photo mode. The lens itself is a 136 degrees wide unit, enabling the camera to shoot at a wider angle. The Ego is Wi-Fi enabled allowing users to view footage in real time and stream to their smart phones, tablets, or computers.

The Ego is available in five colours, Black, Red, Blue, White and Yellow and has an RRP of £159.99. It will be available in the UK from August 2012.

The Nikon Coolpix L610 is a new AA battery powered, 16-megapixel travelzoom camera with 14x optical zoom and Full HD video recording capabilities. Featuring a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, 25-350mm equivalent lens with two ED glass elements and Vibration Reduction, the Nikon Coolpix L610 comes with a dedicated movie record button, mini HDMI port and a 3-inch rear screen boasting a resolution of 460,000 dots. Priced at $249.95/£199.99/€249.00, the Nikon Coolpix L610 will be available in red, black and silver beginning September 2012.

The Casio Exilim EX-ZR300, which was announced in Japan back in May, is now being launched across Europe. The compact travelzoom features a 24-300mm equivalent lens, 16-megapixel sensor, fast AF and support for Toshiba’s new FlashAir range of Wi-Fi enabled memory cards. Available from the end of August, the Casio Exilim EX-ZR300 carries an SRP of €279.

Sony Japan has announced a new 18-megapixel ultra-compact camera with 10x optical zoom, Steady Shot technology and a high-resolution touchscreen. Weighing in at a mere 119g, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX170 comes equipped with a 25-250mm (equivalent) f/3.3-5.9 lens bearing the prestigious “G” designation, and a touch-sensitive 3-inch rear screen with a resolution of 921,000 dots. The back-illuminated “EXMOR-R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor enable the camera to shoot at sensitivity settings up to ISO 12,800. Focus acquisition is claimed to be extremely quick for a digital compact camera (0.13 second in bright light and 0.2 second in low light). The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX170 will be available in various Asian markets starting 3 August 2012. Currently, there’s no word on EU/US availability or pricing.

The Fujifilm FinePix F800EXR is a new 16-megapixel compact camera with a 25-500mm equivalent zoom lens and Wi-Fi connectivity. Other highlights include a start-up time of 1.5 seconds, shot-to-shot lag of 0.8s and AF lag of just 0.16s. Wireless Image Transfer facilitates sending photos from the FinePix F800EXR to smartphones and tablets quickly and simply with the help of the free Fujifilm Photo Receiver app. Full HD video recording, raw image capture, manual exposure control, Motion Panorama, Film Simulation and Multiple Exposure round off the features list. The Fujifilm FinePix F800EXR is now available for pre-order, priced at $349.95. The camera is expected to hit the shops in August. In the UK, the Fujifilm FinePix F800EXR will go on sale towards the end of September for an estimated £279..

Samsung today announced the latest addition to its range of Wi-Fi enabled SMART cameras; the MV900F. Featuring a stabilised, 25-125mm equivalent f/2.5-6.3 lens and a 16.3-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, the Samsung MV900F MultiView camera also boasts a 3.3-inch, 180-degree flip-up display, 1920x1080 Full HD video recording at 30fps, and wireless smartphone connectivity. The camera will be available next month for around $350.

The Panasonic LX7 is a premium compact camera with a newly designed, 24-90mm equivalent f/1.4-2.3 lens,, a 10.1-megapixel, 1/1.7-type MOS sensor, Venus Engine VII FHD processor and an ISO range of 80-12,800. In addition to the ultra-fast maximum aperture, the Leica DC Vario-Summilux branded lens also boasts Nano Surface Coating and minimal distortion, the company says. The LX7’s aperture ring and rear dial provide you with full control over the camera’s aperture range, while the internal neutral density filter allows you to use slow shutter speeds in combination with fast aperture settings. In addition to capturing ten-megapixel stills (in raw as well as JPEG formats), the camera is capable of shooting 1920x1080 50p Full HD movies, which can be stored in either AVCHD Progressive or MP4 format. The Panasonic Lumix LX7 camera will be available from September for £449.

The Panasonic FZ200 is a new super-zoom digital compact camera featuring an improved 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 1.31-million-dot electronic viewfinder and a 25-600mm equivalent lens with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range. In addition to the 24x optical zoom and image quality advances, the high-speed functionality of the Lumix FZ200 enables “light-speed” auto-focus and 12fps continuous shooting at full resolution (5.5fps with AF tracking). Other notable features include optical image stabilisation, raw image capture,1920x1080 50p Full HD video recording with Dolby Digital audio, a fully articulated 3” rear screen, an enhanced Panorama Shot feature, 3D photography and advanced editing options through Panasonic’s Creative Control Mode during recording and Creative Re-touch Mode in playback. The Panasonic Lumix FZ200 camera will be available at the end of August / beginning of September for £499.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ62 is a 16-megapixel camera with 24x optical zoom and 1080i video recording capability. Spanning a 35mm equivalent focal range of 25-600mm, the optically stabilised lens benefits from Panasonic’s Black Box Nano Surface Coating technology and comprises 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 ED and 2 aspherical lens elements with 3 aspherical surfaces. Thanks to its high-speed signal readout, the FZ62 can shoot at up to 10fps in 16.1-megapixel full resolution (5fps with continuous AF). Intelligent D-range Control optimises the lighting of each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights. Additional settings include Intelligent Handheld Night Shot and Intelligent HDR. Pricing and availability to be confirmed.

The Panasonic Lumix SZ5 is a Wi-Fi enabled digital compact camera with a 14-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom. Featuring remote operation possibilities via your smartphone, the Lumix provides a rich set of connectivity options which make posting your images and videos online easier than ever, the company says. By accessing the Remote Live View feature on your smartphone you can control the camera’s zoom and shutter directly from your device and you can also use your smartphone to playback and edit the images from your camera. Other highlights include a 25-250mm equivalent Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and 720p HD video recording in MP4 format. Pricing and availability to be confirmed.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ20 is a new compact camera featuring a 16-megapixel CCD imager, 25-525mm equivalent lens with optical image stabilisation, and a 3” LCD screen with a resolution of 460,000 dots. The lens unit comprises of 12 elements in 9 groups including 3 aspherical lens elements with 5 aspherical surfaces. In addition to Panasonic’s “intelligent Auto” function, the Lumix LZ20 also features a manual exposure mode that will likely appeal to more experienced photographers. Pricing and availability to be confirmed.

Casio has added three new 16-megapixel compacts to its Exilim range, including the EX-N1, EX-N10 and EX-N20. Each of these models features a 26-130mm equivalent zoom lens, a 2.7” rear LCD screen and HD video recording capabilities. The three cameras are identical to each other except for their outer appearance. The EX-N1 is offered in three “casual” colour variations — blue, pink and white — as well as black and red, with ceramic-like gloss finishes. The EX-N10 features a “dressy” quilted design pattern engraved into the design on the inner surface of the clear case coating. Three colour variations are offered: vivid pink, gold and black. Finally, the EX-N20 features a surface with a textured, leather-like finish. Three colour variations—brown, blue and red—are available. Pricing to be confirmed.
