The Nikon D3300 is a new 24.2-megapixel digital SLR camera with 5fps continuous shooting, a 921k-dot rear screen, no anti-aliasing filter and a small, retractable kit lens. Other highlights include a native sensitivity range of ISO 100/21° - ISO 12,800/42° (expandable to ISO 25,600/45° equivalent), 11-point AF system, Full HD movie recording, 13 special effects, EXPEED 4 image processing unit, 420-pixel RGB metering sensor, and compatibility with Nikon’s separately sold ME-1 Stereo Microphone and Wu-1a Mobile Adapter. The camera is sold in a kit with the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II retractable zoom, which is much more compact to carry than its predecessor that was shipped with earlier entry-level Nikon dSLRs. The Nikon D3300 will be available from February, priced at around £599.99 / €719.00 / $649.95 for the single-lens kit and £499.99 / €599.99 for the body only.

Ricoh has posted a firmware update for the Pentax K-3 digital SLR camera. According to the company, version 1.01 incorporates the following improvements:
- Faster HDR exposure blending
- Improved continuous shooting when using phase-detect autofocus.
- Extended enlarged display time for live view.
- Improved stability for general performance.

Currently, compact system cameras and SLRs are divided into two segments but InfoTrends believes that they "will converge back into a single category." Until this happens, the research firm recommends that vendors and retailers continue to educate future camera buyers about the advantages and disadvantages of each "to create smart shoppers." Canon has issued a firmware update for the Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera. Version 2.0.5 fixes
a phenomenon in which the image files cannot be transferred using the FTP protocol via USB cable after the EOS 7D camera has established a wireless connection to the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5 A, B, C or D. You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.

Nikon today unveiled the Nikon Df, a digital SLR camera that boasts looks inspired by the company's iconic 35mm film cameras. At the heart of the Df is the same 16.2-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor found in Nikon’s professional flagship camera, the D4. Other highlights include elegant mechanical dials, a 39-point AF system, a sensitvity range of ISO 100/21° to ISO 12,800/42° - extendable up to ISO 204,800/54° -, compatibility with non-Ai (pre-Ai) lenses, continuous shooting at up to 5.5 frames per second, a self-cleaning sensor unit and a shutter tested to 150,000 actuations. Featuring a pentaprism finder with 0.7x magnification and 100% coverage, the Nikon Df will go on sale at the end of this month at a recommended retail price of £2749.99 / $2,999.95 / €3350.00 including an AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens.

Canon has announced plans to issue a major service upgrade for the Canon EOS-1D C 4K cinema camera. This update will enable Canon EF-mount Cinema lenses to store lens metadata in the video recorded by the camera. Furthermore, Canon EF-mount Cinema lenses will be supported by Peripheral Illumination and Chromatic Aberration Correction functions. Additionally - in response to user requests -, audio on the EOS-1D C camera will also be enhanced. Currently audio recording is limited to a MIC input, but the forthcoming service update will permit selection of LINE or MIC input, allowing use of a wider variety of external audio sources. The update for the Canon EOS-1D C digital SLR cinema camera is scheduled to be available November 2013. Do note that this service upgrade that requires the camera to be sent to an authorised Canon Factory Service Center.

Canon is planning to release a firmware update for its EOS-1D X digital SLR camera. The upgrade promises to deliver enhanced low-light performance through improved AF tracking. In addition the minimum shutter speed limit for ISO Auto will increase to reach 1/8000, and there will be a possibility to keep the exposure constant when zooming or changing lenses by altering the ISO or shutter speed manually. The firmware update, which is scheduled for a January release, will also bring flexibility for controls, including switching between one-shot AF and Al Servo AF.

We've directly compared the new Sony A7 full-frame compact system camera with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
As you'll see in the gallery, the Sony A7 is much smaller than Canon's full-frame DSLR, as you'd expect, but it's actually about the same size as Olympus' new mirrorless offering, which uses a comparatively tiny Micro Four Thirds sensor!
Obviously you then have to factor in the lenses, which are bigger on Sony's new FE full-frame system, but it's clear to see that Sony have put a lot of effort into making their new A7/A7R bodies as petitie as possible
