DigitalCameraInfo have published a comparative review of the new Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 5D digital SLR cameras.
”...the D200 and the 5D are the latest cameras from the leading DSLR manufacturers, and are the results of big R&D efforts. As such, they ought to show where the two companies are going, and what they’re capable of. Second, they are Canon and Nikon’s step-down models to their flagship DSLRs – both the EOS 5D and D200 represent more affordable, scaled-down versions of their top of the line cousins, with the full-frame 5D a smaller iteration of the 1Ds Mark II, and the D200 a mid-level D2X.”

Olympus Europe Press Release
The innovative Olympus E-330 digital SLR available in a choice of six kits for specific applications
Hamburg, March 2006 – Whether for travel, medical, macro, nature, architectural or underwater photography – and just about anything in between – Olympus will introduce six kits to accompany the sales start of the E-330 digital SLR, and thereby provide customised, professional solutions for virtually any photographic situation. Key element in each of the kits is, of course, the Olympus E-330 body – a remarkable feat of technology. It is the world’s first digital SLR to provide continuous Live Previews. Now, instead of being forced to frame compositions by looking through the viewfinder, photographers have the freedom of framing while looking at the Live Preview on the camera’s large 6.4cm HyperCrystal LCD. Extending usability even further, the screen can be tilted up 90° and down 45° to provide unparalleled shooting and framing ease. Image quality, speed and sensitivity are second to none thanks to the incorporation of a latest-generation Live MOS sensor with 7.5 million pixels. Naturally, as with all cameras in the Olympus E-System range, the E-330 is equipped with the Olympus-exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter which eliminates the danger of dust entering the camera body and settling on the image sensor. Compatibility with the full range of E-System accessories makes the E-330 ideal for a multitude of applications. And the availability of these six new kits makes this surprisingly affordable.

Luminous Landscape have reviewed the 22 megapixel Mamiya ZD digital SLR camera.
“The real question that remains is of course that of the image quality. My impression is that it is quite good, but it is not equal to that of the competition. An H1D with either a Hasselblad, Leaf, Sinar or PhaseOne digital back costs quite a bit more, but the images are of a higher quality. That will likely be because the lenses are better, and maybe because of the way the software does its job. The Mamiya software can be used, but the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW will also convert the files to standard digital photos. I found the Adobe software the better choice, but heard other photographers say the opposite.”

ePhotoZine have published their review of the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.
“The first thing that strikes me about the EOS 350D is just how small it is, measuring just 9.5cm tall, 12.5cm wide and 13.5cm deep, with the lens it really is tiny for an SLR camera. In fact, some people may find the camera too small. I found the tiny finger grip comfortable, even though there is only room for two of my fingers, leaving my little finger with nothing to grab hold of. When the camera has the standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S lens attached, the camera is well balanced. This is not the case with heavier lenses from Canon’s extensive EF lens range. A battery grip is available which helps give a bit more camera to grab hold of.”

PCMagazine have enthusiastically reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera, awarding it their “Editor’s Choice” award.
“The camera that made one of the biggest splashes at this year’s PMA show in Orlando, Florida, was undoubtedly the Olympus Evolt E-330 ($1,100 List). And for good reason: It’s the first D-SLR to give consumers the option of framing their shots on the LCD, a feature that’s been available on lower-end digital cameras for years. That’s not the sole reason we awarded the Evolt E-330 an Editors’ Choice as a specialty D-SLR, but it certainly tipped the scales.”

ePhotoZine have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.
“Images display excellent edge-to-edge sharpness which can be attributed in part to the quality of the kit lens included with the camera. Colour reproduction is accurate when using default settings, there is a vivid colour option which provides a bit of extra punch, especially with red and greens. The auto white-balance performs well outdoors in natural light, but when used indoors under incandescent or fluorescent lighting, images retain a strong orange cast often needing extra correction in Photoshop afterwards.”

DCResource have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 30D DSLR.
“From most angles the 30D looks just like its predecessor, the EOS-20D. But take a look at the back of the camera and you’ll see the most noticeable difference: a large 2.5” LCD display. While the screen isn’t as bright or sharp as the one on the Nikon D200, it’s still much nicer than the one found on the 20D or Rebel XT. The 30D is very well put together, with a metal core and solid plastic and rubber outer shell. The controls are well-placed, and Canon hasn’t gone overboard with buttons. Some of the controls, like the four-way controller and playback zoom buttons, are downright useful. Like the 20D before it, the 30D supports both EF and EF-S lenses, and the 1.6X focal length conversion ratio is unchanged.”

CNET are the first online resource to review the new Canon EOS 30D DSLR.
“There are a few aspects of the 30D that Canon didn’t change but that could have used an update. The battery didn’t last for the length of one of my shooting sessions, or about 250 photos. The lens still casts a shadow when using the onboard flash at wide-angle focal lengths with some lenses. And the viewfinder still shows only 95 percent of the scene. Nonetheless, it remains the top-notch model that the 20D was.”

Thom Hogan has just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.
“The D200 is a completely new body design that seems almost a perfect hybrid of the D50/D70 and D2 series. It has the size, pop-up flash, and battery heritage from the D100/D70/D50 progression, but the feature set, button layout, and menus of the D2 series. The D200 body construction is more like that of a D2, including metal framing and gaskets for weather protection, but in your hands it feels much more like the lower-end cameras due to the smaller size and some external construction cues. The one new thing not shared with other current Nikon camera body is the autofocus system, which we’ll get to in detail in a bit. Compared to the D100 it replaced, the D200 has gone way upscale. The D200 is better built, better specified, has many more features, and is much more “pro-like” than “consumer.”“

DPReview have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.
“The introduction of the E-330 confused us, it was difficult to see where this new camera fitted into the current digital SLR market. It’s more expensive than the more traditional (but in my opinion better) E-500 yet offers very little more other than live view. Olympus has tried to address one complaint we (and others) had about the E-300, and that’s the design and styling. To me at least it’s only a partial achievement, the E-330 does look and handle better than the E-300 but honestly it’s still not as nice a camera to use as the E-500.”

CNET have reviewed the new entry-level Pentax *ist DL digital SLR camera. The Pentax *ist DL is a 6.1 megapixel DSLR which features a 2.5 LCD screen and light 16 ounce body.
“Most casual users won’t notice the corners that Pentax cut to reduce the DL’s cost: a less sophisticated autofocusing system and a mirror in the viewfinder instead of a prism. Despite its slight stature and modest price point, the *ist DL handily produces crisp, vibrant photos that should please any photographer taking the step up from a digital point-and-shoot. Curious amateurs should definitely explore beyond the DL’s simplest options; a few automatic features, such as white balance, are handily outperformed by the camera’s manual settings.”

“Even though it is not necessarily the most important asset of a camera, the resolution virtually always remains people’s prime interest. With 10 Megapixels the Nikon D200 raises the bar another notch for digital SLRs in this class. The sensor, ordered again from Sony, is a CCD type image sensor. At this time we still see the manufacturers divided in two camps; whilst one clearly opts for the CMOS, the other prefers to stay with the CCD sensor.”

Popular Photography have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.
“Images from the D200 rival those from the D2x in resolution, color accuracy, and overall image quality. The D200 averages 2,075 lines of resolution (see test results). That’s the same as the D2x—and 300 lines higher than the Canon EOS 20D or new 30D (see our review of the 30D on page 62). It also delivers excellent color accuracy, on par with the D2x and nearly as good as the EOS 20D. But the real surprise is that the D200 captures images with slightly higher resolution and color accuracy than Canon’s full-frame 12.8MP EOS 5D ($3,000, body only).”

PCMagazine have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.
“Control has always been an essential part of photography. Once you understand which dials to turn and what buttons to press, you can determine whether you freeze the action of your subjects or create a blur of movement. As with most digital SLRs, the Nikon D200 comes loaded with controls, both automatic and manual. It also performs beautifully and takes truly amazing pictures. But the camera’s innovative ability to control lighting, particularly in studio situations, is what really impressed me enough to select it as our new Editors’ Choice.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the new entry-level Pentax *ist DL digital SLR camera. The Pentax *ist DL is a 6.1 megapixel DSLR which features a 2.5 LCD screen and light 16 ounce body.
“As with its *ist D-series predecessors, the first thing that strikes you about the *ist DL is its diminutive (for an SLR) size. It weighs-in at just under 2 pounds including batteries, SD memory card, strap and DA 18-55mm lens, among the lightest dSLR’s currently available. The value of its light weight became clear to me during the recent PMA show; I walked the aisles all day with *ist DL without any soreness in my neck, arm or hand. Its small size does not diminish its ergonomic qualities, however; the *ist DL is comfortable to hold and its controls are both logically organized and easy to operate.”
