Nikon D50Digital Outback Photo have started a diary review of the Nikon D50, a new affordable 6.1 megapixel digital SLR.

“The ISO up to 800 looks really good for the D50 and you can make even useable shots at 1600 if you use extra noise removal software. What about only one command dial? This is clearly not as good as having two. But pressing the “+/-” while using the command dial to change aperture is ok. We use manual mode all the time and don’t feel really handicapped. So far we feel home with the D50.”

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DPhotoHobby.net published a preview of the new entry-level Konica Minolta Dynax 5D digital SLR camera that was announced last week.

“Picture quality between 7D and 5D is no virtually difference. I’ve tried both camera using JPEG Extra Fine setting. With the same scene, JPEG file from both camera has almost identical in size. With closer look, there is no way to tell the different between the 2 cameras.”

Nikon D50DPReview have published their review of the Nikon D50, a new affordable 6.1 megapixel digital SLR.

“The nicest thing about the D50 however is that it just feels right, build wise it’s a step above the Canon EOS 350D and Pentax *ist DS, it’s also not too small, I’m all for making cameras lighter but there’s a limit as to how small you can make an SLR before the hand grip feels cramped and controls begin to get in the way. The D50 feels as responsive as any film camera and is a pleasure to shoot with. The only change I would make would probably be a larger viewfinder view (like that of the Pentax *ist DS).”

Canon EOS 10DApparently, as a DSLR owner, I use my camera more than other photographers do, shoot more photos (erm, well I guess that figures), print more photos and am much better-looking than people who use other types of cameras. OK, that last part may not be 100% true (just wishful thinking on my part!)...

PMA Marketing Research Press Release

Digital SLRs spell consumer growth and enjoyment, according to PMA Marketing Research study

JACKSON, Mich. - A new mini report by PMA Marketing Research indicates digital SLRs are more likely to embrace the skills necessary to master the picture-taking process. More than two-thirds of digital SLR owners just “like to take photographs” “for pure enjoyment.” In addition to enjoying the picture-taking process, they are also interested in capturing the highest quality memories.

According to the PMA study, Focus on Digital SLRs . Trends and Opportunities, the digital SLR user also uses their camera more than other camera owners, including three times as often as 35mm SLR owners. The 35mm SLR user was ready to move up to the digital SLR to reinvigorate their interest in photography. And, because they are shooting more often, they are also producing a far greater quantity of photos.

Apparently, as a DSLR owner, I use my camera more than other photographers do, shoot more photos (erm, well I guess that figures), print more photos and am much better-looking than people who use other types of cameras. OK, that last part may not be 100% true (just wishful thinking…

Konica Minolta / SonyKonica Minolta and Sony have today announced that they have agreed to jointly develop digital SLR cameras. Sony look like they have most to gain from this move, as they don’t currently have any DSLRs in their product line-up, whereas Konica Minolta introduced their second model, the Dynax 5D, only last week. Both companies are set to “begin joint development of advanced and feature-rich digital SLR cameras” based on Konica Minolta’s Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system. It’s probably safe to say that Sony will not be joining the Four Thirds camp, which Olympus and Panasonic have pledged support to.

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRTopicPoint have published their review of the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“I’m happy to say that in use, the 350D performs extremely well. It turns on almost instantly, wakes up almost instantly, has an imperceptible shutter delay, and feels fast and snappy in use. This is a huge improvement over my older Canon 10D. In addition, uploading pictures over the USB cable is noticeably faster than the 10D. Shooting continuously, it can do approximately 3 frames per second for 14 JPEG images in a row or 4 RAW images in a row. In use, the camera is moderately quiet- the shutter is definitely quieter than the rather noisy Canon 20D, but, slightly louder than the Canon 10D. “

Olympus E-300DigitalCameraInfo have posted their review of the 8 megapixel Olympus E-300 / Evolt DSLR.

“The E-300 is a solidly-built digital SLR with a straightforward interface. It’s not fast, and it’s not smaller than the competition, but it is an 8 megapixel SLR for less than $900, and that’s unique. The E-300 is a capable camera with many thoughtful design features, but the camera doesn’t beat its competition in any regard. It’s inexpensive, but for most people looking at $900 cameras, a $1,000 camera is within reach, and they are all better buys. The E-300 is the most affordable camera in the class, but for obvious reason; it is inferior to the competition and looks to price as a means of leverage, which it attains.”
