Ricoh Caplio 400G WideThe 3.2 megapixel Ricoh Caplio 400G Wide falls into the waterproof category of digital cameras - you can use it underwater at a depth of 1m or less for up to 30 minutes. As a digital camera it closely resembles other Ricoh cameras in terms of design and features, but it does have the added bonus of a wide-angle 28-85mm lens. It also inherits the speed of the Ricoh Caplio G4, with a shutter response time of just 0.14 seconds, exceeding the speed of a conventional 35mm camera, and a very fast start-up time of 1.9 seconds. There aren’t too many digital cameras that can match this unique combination of speed, wide-angle lens and waterproofness, so does the Ricoh Caplio 400G Wide live up to its billing? Read my review to find out.

Caroline MockettThe 14th PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Caroline Mockett.

”“These are photos I took of Scottish band Runrig, over a period of 2.5 years. They have used some in their publicity material. I was gathering images to submit for my RPS Fellowship, which unfortunately, I didn’t get this time round! So I’m now reassessing and seeing what to do for a future panel.

I also take lots of modern architecture photos (I got my ARPS in 1999 with a panel of 15 mono images on this theme). And I’ve just started photographing Rugby matches, which is proving a challenge! But basically, I will turn my lens on anything given the opportunity.

I used to work in colour, B&W and slide, but recently bought a Canon EOS300D SLR and have found it’s fantastic. Not sure when I will expose another “roll” of real film!

I have recently had some success selling my work on eBay; however, I’m not a professional photographer (I’m a web designer by profession), just a keen amateur hoping to boost my freelance work in the future. I’ve also got a good selection of work online at:

Fuji FinePix S5000The Fuji FinePix S5000 Zoom looks very much like a traditional SLR camera in terms of styling, but it is actually more like a compact camera in size and weight. Despite its diminutive dimensions, the Fuji FinePix S5000 Zoom has a massive 10x optical zoom which is equivalent to 37-370mm on a 35mm camera. It also features Fuji’s new 4th Generation Super CCD HR sensor and can record images in RAW mode as well as the JPEG file format. And all of this is available for just over ?200! So is the FinePix S5000 Zoom a bit of a bargain? Find out in my review.

MINDTomorrow I’m setting off on a 3-day, 300km cycle challenge from London to Amsterdam to raise money for Mind, the UK mental health charity.

Consequently I will not be updating PhotographyBLOG or replying to email until next Tuesday (8th). The PhotographyBLOG Newsletter, which usually goes out on a Saturday, will not be issued this week.

I will be taking my Canon G5 with me, so I’ll hopefully have some photos to share with you when (or if) I get back :-)
