Following the success of its iOS, MacOS and Android compatible versions, CamRanger has now added support for Windows 7 and 8 Pro. CamRanger is a stand-alone device that connects to select Canon or Nikon DLSR cameras with a provided USB cable to create an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network that your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch can then log on to. Together with the associated apps, CamRanger allows users to control their cameras and remotely see the live view feed when their camera is placed in remote locations. Currently in beta, the Windows app can be downloaded from the CamRanger website.

Akvis has announced Akvis ArtSuite 10 and the new Summer Frame Pack. The software helps to decorate pictures with frames and effects. The brand new Summer Pack, with 50 hand painted colorful designs, can be installed to the program to increase its functionality. The latest update to Delix Software's PhotoNova app features a collection of new editing tools that promise to give users "unprecedented" control over the aesthetics of their mobile photos. Datacolor has launched an Android version of SpyderGALLERY, a free and easy-to-use calibration utility for Spyder colorimeter owners to create a custom colour profile on their mobile devices. Unified Color Technologies have just released the latest upgrades to their professional-level HDR software lineup. New state of the art merge, alignment and deghosting algorithms have been added to the standalone application HDR Expose 3, while 32 Float - also upgraded to Version 3 - provides the same full range of image editing tools in a convenient Photoshop filter plug-in. Corel today released the English version of Corel Painter X3. New features and highlights include crosshair cloning, 25 new jitter brushes, a brush search engine, new perspective guides, smart brush controls, a new reference image panel, flow maps, and the ability to apply a transformation to a selection across multiple layers. The full version of Painter X3 is available for £311 (including VAT) and the upgrade, for registered Painter 11 and 12 users, is available for £156 (including VAT).

Akvis has released AirBrush v.2.0, a program that turns photos into stylish airbrush paintings. Version 2.0 adds the possibility to create multicoloured drawings and offers new presets. The plugin version is compatible with Adobe Photoshop CC. The software sells for $49 for the Home version (all features except colour changing), $69 for the Home Deluxe edition (all features included), $89 for the Business version (all features included, for commercial use). The software runs on Windows XP/Vista/Win7/Win 8 and on Mac OS X 10.4-10.8, both 32 bit and 64 bit.

WnSoft has released Perfect Photo Show, a free slideshow application made by acclaimed photo professionals for beginners. "Perfect Photo Show will help you create amazing slideshows with music in just a few minutes," the company says. "Share your impressions about a journey or another important event with your friends and family." The free program is available for Windows 7, 8, Vista and XP.

The 11ers, a team of ex-DreamWorks employees with extensive expertise in film animation software, today released Photospector, a real-time photo-editing app for iPad that processes images at full camera resolution. While existing apps require several seconds to load a single adjustment to brightness, exposure, or color, Photospector makes all of these changes instantly in full screen as the user drags a finger across the controls, the company claims. "It's a truly 'wow' moment when you slide your finger across the screen and you see you're in complete control of every aspect of your photo," says the app's lead developer Daniel Wexler. "You can take a 1,000 MP image and zoom in down to the pixel." Photospector is currently free and available through the App Store in the Photo & Video category.

DxO Labs have added  a new exposure time measurement setup to DxO Analyzer 5, providing the first automated solution for measuring exposure time, shutter lag, ERS delay, vertical blanking, frame time, frame rate, and missing frames for both still and video CMOS-based cameras. All CMOS sensors feature an ERS, which introduces many kinds of artifacts and distortions that particularly affect moving objects, resulting in wobble or jello effects, skew, smear, or partial exposure. DxO Analyzer v5 uses advanced image processing technologies to deliver a precise characterization of ERS distortions. The new setup combines the DxO LED Universal Timer, shutter triggers, and software, all developed by DxO Labs to deliver automatic test shot processing.

Light Blue Software has released version 4.2 of Light Blue, its business management software for photographers. Completely redesigned from the ground up, this update adds iPad and iPhone versions to complement the desktop software. The mobile apps are slimmed-down versions of the desktop software, giving you the information you need on your jobs and contacts when you’re out and about. These apps are built to interact with Light Blue  Software’s cloud-based systems, so you don’t need an internet connection to get at your information, which is especially useful in areas with low network coverage. Existing users of v1–v3 can update their copy of Light Blue 4.2 for $150. New users can register their copy for $470.

DxO Labs have just released DxO ViewPoint 1.2.1, the newest version of its software dedicated to correcting keystoning and volume anamorphosis. This update adds full compatibility with Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. With just one licence, DxO ViewPoint v1.2.1 can be used as a plugin for Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and as a standalone application. DxO ViewPoint v1.2.1 is now available in the DxO Labs online store and at photo resellers at a special discount price throughout July. Alien Skin Software has released an update to its Eye Candy 7 plug-in, which adds the capability to store presets in a cloud storage folder. It also adds compatibility with the new Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud. “Graphic designers who rely on Eye Candy 7 will appreciate the ability to store special effect presets in the cloud,” said Terence Tay, the designer of Eye Candy. “It’s convenient to develop a customized effect on one computer and have access to it anywhere.” Current owners of Eye Candy 7 can download the update free of charge.

Xara has announced a new release of their flagship editing suite, Xara Designer Pro X9. The software bundle includes Photo & Graphics Designer 9 for photo editing and vector illustration; Page & Layout Designer for printable documents, PDFs and Xara's unique 'DTP for the web' document publishing; Web Designer 9 Premium for website creation, and more. The program supports automatic image optimisation for Retina displays, and comes with an advanced photo healing brush. Xara Designer Pro X9 costs £249 with upgrades available from £79.

Lytro has introduced a new iOS app that allows people to use their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device to experience and share light field pictures taken with Lytro cameras. The app communicates with Lytro cameras, whose wireless capabilities can be activated with a free software update, letting camera owners preview and upload pictures to Lytro.com directly from their iOS device while on the go, using either a cellular or Wi-Fi network. The Lytro Mobile App is available as a free download from iTunes.

Mobile photo browsing app Linea has been updated to version 3.3 to include direct access to Dropbox. "Photo enthusiasts who need a way to back up their photos, but can never see or find their photos in Dropbox’s non visual folders, can use Linea to organise and view thousands of pictures, pulling images straight from Dropbox to Linea’s mobile app," the company says. "We realise photo enthusasts are pained with storage and organisation woes on a daily basis. Uploading photos from Dropbox means your photos remain backed up while they are organised automatically in a visually compelling line to be shared with friends and family.” Linea is available as a free download from the App Store.
