Canon have announced the development of the new EOS R5 flagship mirrorless camera, which offers cinematic-quality 8K movie recording using the full width of the sensor at up to 30p and support for Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, high-speed 20fps electronic / 12fps mechanical burst shooting, unparalleled in-body image stabilisation which works in combination with the lens stabilisation system, dual memory card slots, advanced animal AF recognising dogs, cats and birds, and support for the new image.canon cloud platform service.

The Canon EOS R5 will also have a fully articulating LCD screen and a thumb-operated AF joystick, rather than the divisive MFn bar used on the EOS R.

The official launch date and price of the exciting new Canon EOS R5 camera have yet to be announced.

A preview of the Canon R5 will be on display at the 2020 WPPI Show (February 25-27) in Las Vegas.

Reference exhibits for the EOS R5 and RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x will be on display in the Canon booth at the CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show 2020, to be held from February 27 to March 1 at the Pacifico Yokohama convention hall in Yokohama, Japan.

Canon reveals further EOS R5 details – shutting down speculation that some specs are ‘impossible’ 

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 13th March 2020 – Exactly a month since its development announcement of the EOS R5 – a full frame mirrorless camera built on the revolutionary EOS R System – Canon Inc. reveals additional information. 

Achieving the ‘impossible’, Canon Inc. confirms the EOS R5’s video capabilities will far exceed that of competing cameras on the market. With its ability to internally record 8K using the full width of the sensor at up to 30p, the latest Canon EOS R camera is set to redefine mirrorless with its market-leading features. In addition, in all 8K modes it will support Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF. 

Canon Inc. also confirms the EOS R5 supports advanced animal AF – recognising dogs, cats and birds, relying not only on the eyes of the animal but also the face and body for situations when the eyes are not visible.

Canon Announces Additional Details of EOS R5 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Currently In Development 

Following-up on the development announcement of Canon’s most advanced full-frame the mirrorless camera ever, the EOS R5, Canon has additional details to share, including information on the camera’s 8K video recording, Dual Pixel CMOS AF and a new “Animal Detection” auto focus technology. 

The EOS R5 will record internal 8K video capture up to 29.97fps, using the full width of the image sensor and will feature Canon’s revolutionary Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology in all 8K recording modes. In addition, with newly developed live view AF technologies seen in the EOS-1D X Mark III flagship camera as a basis,  EOS R5 will implement “Animal Detection” auto focus technology.
