100 CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHERS SHARE THEIR WORK - ONE NIGHT ONLY
CENTER is pleased to announce a public photographic portfolio walk on Friday, June 3, 2011, 5:30 to 8:00pm, at Santa Fe Hilton Historic Plaza, 100 Sandoval Street, Santa Fe, NM.
PORTFOLIO VIEWING is free event and the public component of Review Santa Fe, an invitational photographic portfolio review event. At Review Santa Fe, 100 photographers present their work to nationally and internationally renowned curators, book publishers, editors and gallery directors for an unparalleled networking and community building opportunity.
The participating photographers travel from all over the world, representing 23 U.S. states and 13 countries including Hungary, Israel, Cuba, Egypt, Austria, and Japan, to attend the prestigious review event. Photographers were selected from a pool of 450 applicants by top industry leaders.
This is a unique exposition/exhibition hybrid style of viewing work in an informal atmosphere that has led to many purchases. Collectors and art enthusiasts have the opportunity to view the work, talk with the artists and add to their collections at a reasonable price from those who are on the cusp of wider acclaim.
The work of these artists represents the important topics being explored by photographers today, including significant social, environmental and political issues. In a world where visual literacy is of increasing importance, we are honored to count the following photographers among those presenting their work this year.
Tamás Dezs?
In his winning project, Here, Anywhere, 2011 Project Competition Award winner Tamas Dezso explores post-communist Hungary. Dezso writes, “There are places which seem to be at one with other parts of the city in a single space, but their co-existence in time is only apparent; places which decompose in accordance with their own specific chronology, determined by their past, such that what remains would then either be silent reconquered by nature of enveloped by the lifestyles of tomorrow’s generations.”
Norihisa Hosaka
Coming all the way from Japan to attend, Norihisa Hosaka writes, “my works are about landscape of Tokyo. The sequence is called “Pax Technodelica.” This term is a mixture of Latin, English and Greek, and it means: “Technomanifest peace.” In the 80’s, the key word in the cultural movement of Tokyo was Cyberpunk; in the 21st Century it is “near-future Tokyo.” His photographs show a chaotic, frenetic energy that inhabits Tokyo today.
Jessamyn Lovell
Albuquerque artist Jessamyn Lovell photographs seemingly ordinary objects, but upon closer investigation, one starts to weave together a story of personal rites of passage, spirituality, religion, and philosophy. She writes, ” The relationships that develop within this archive might offer a personal history as well as a structure for maintaining a practice of growth without subscribing to one single religion, philosophy, or spiritual path.
This portfolio-viewing event provides collectors and photography lovers with a unique opportunity to
view cutting-edge work and to connect with talented contemporary photographers.
