ePhotoZine have reviewed the new 10x zoom, 5 megapixel, compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 digital camera.
“The Lumix TZ1 is surprisingly small for its specifications, the folded optics design, which turns a right angle inside the camera, is the first of its kind with such a large zoom range. A chunky handgrip helps to provide a secure hold of the TZ1. Even though this grip adds to the overall size of the camera, I feel it is necessary. When using such a long lens on such a small camera you need all the help you can get to keep it steady.”

DCResource have the first review of the Sony T30, a 7.2 megapixel camera with a 3 inch LCD screen, image stabilisation and high sensitivity mode (ISO 1000) to help avoid blurry photos.
“I was very pleased with the photo quality on the Cyber-shot DSC-T30. It took well-exposed, colorful pictures with very little noise (considering the resolution of the camera). Subject sharpness was just how I like it. Purple fringing did make an appearance, and I’d call it “above average”.”

DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the Kodak Easyshare V610, the world’s smallest 10x zoom digital camera.
“Kodak’s EasyShare V610 is the second digital camera on the market with a dual lens system. It follows the V570, which had 5x optical zoom with an ultra-wide angle; the V610 doubles the optical zoom to 10x and maintains an equally slim 0.9-inch body. As of May 2006, this is the smallest 10x optical zoom camera on the market. This could change, though. The compact ultra-zoom genre of digital cameras is still growing; the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 advertised itself as the world’s smallest 10x camera in February and had a few glorious weeks at the top before the Kodak V610 was released.”

CNET have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix L2, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2 inch LCD.
“The 6-megapixel Nikon Coolpix L2 offers only the bare necessities for picture taking but, for its class, delivers excellent photos that require minimal effort. The Coolpix L2 squarely targets snapshooters, and more experienced users may be frustrated by the camera’s lack of controls. Cash-strapped entry-level photographers may want to check out the L2’s cheaper siblings: the 5-megapixel Coolpix L3 or the 4-megapixel Coolpix L4.”

The world’s biggest travelling cameracomes to PHotoEspaña. After four weeks capturing the wilderness of Spain in a series of gigantic photographs, the cameratruck arrives in Madrid to be exhibited at the country’s leading photography festival. American photographer Shaun Irving and English Art Director Richard Browse have created what they believe to be the world’s largest mobile camera. Designed in America and constructed in Spain, the cameratruck is a simple box camera built right inside a standard delivery truck. Measuring 5 metres long, 2 metres wide and 2 metres high, the gigantic camera is capable of taking pictures almost 3 metres across. It’s the perfect camera to capture a subject as vast as Nature, the photographic theme for this year’s PHotoEspaña, where the cameratruck will be on display along with the photographs taken during its four week journey across Spain.

DIWA member Steves Digicams have just reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix V10 Zoom, a 5 megapixel camera with 3 inch LCD screen that can also play games!
“The first of Fujifilm’s V-series of point-n-shoot digicams, the V10 sidesteps the resolution race in favor of thoughtful new features that improve your results in common shooting situations. The V10’s 5.1 Megapixel 5th Generation Super CCD-HR is complemented with a versatile 3.4x optical zoom lens and a large 3-inch LCD. The camera’s automatic and scene modes provide the ease of use demanded by beginners, and its manual mode provides the more advanced photographer with control of exposure compensation and white balance.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital are first off the blocks with a review of the Casio EX-Z1000 compact digicam, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.8 inch LCD screen, IS0 3200 and an interesting new Zoom Continuous Shutter mode that allows you to compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display and to take both shots simultaneously.
“Although the image resolution of 10 Megapixels forms a considerable asset, it does not provide the Casio Exilim EX Z1000 with the actual surplus value that Casio might be hoping for. Unless we are talking about the handy functions, which help enable an extra Megapixel reserve. In fact, plenty of pixels remain when the Casio EX Z1000 performs its trick. The digital zoom, operated either directly, or via the Quick Zoom function, results in high image quality. Granted, it may no longer be the 10 Megapixels, but 5 Megapixels still offers more than sufficient quality to ensure an excellent print.”

“The newly-released DSC-H2 model updates the H1 with a larger CCD at 6.0-megapixels, and extends a few capabilities as well, with a wider ISO range and an optional function guide for onscreen help. Most of the H2’s functions will be familiar to users of other Sony digital cameras, and newcomers to the line will appreciate the camera’s simplicity. The Sony H2 features the same 12x optical zoom lens and Image Stabilization technology as the H1, and offers full manual to full auto exposure control, with a nice selection of creative tools at the user’s disposal.”

CameraLabs have published their review of the 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D digital SLR.
“If however you do have an existing collection of Canon lenses designed for a full-frame body, then the 5D will be a very tempting prospect. Seeing these lenses deliver the exact same field of view as they did on a film camera is a familiar and surprisingly reassuring experience for anyone who knows that, say, their 24mm would be perfect for a particular composition. It’s also undeniably nice to look through a large viewfinder which makes cropped bodies feel almost claustrophobic in comparison.”

DigiCamReview have reviewed the new 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 camera.
“Noise is visible at even the lowest ISO setting on the Panasonic Lumix LZ3. At ISO200 and ISO400 noise is very noticable and detail is being lost with jagged edges. The high sensitivity mode on the Panasonic LZ3 removes a dramtica amount of detail - so much so that at ISO1600 the ‘W’ is practically non-existant. The Olympus Mju 720SW has much lower noise and has a much better high ISO800 and ISO1600 mode - noise is high, but the camera keeps much more detail compared to the LZ3. You would expect a lower resolution digital camera such as the 5 megapixel LZ3 to have lower noise than a 7 megapixel camera, but unfortunately this isn’t the case. With the Panasonic Lumix LZ3 I would say that ISO above 200 is to be avoided.”

DIWA member and Norwegian website Digit.no have reviewed the Ricoh GR Digital, an 8 megapixel compact digicam based on the GR Series of 35mm compact film cameras.
“The GR Digital is a digital version of the analogue prestige model Ricoh GR1, launched some 10 years ago. Built on the same robust and light-weight magnesium chassis, a fixed focal length equivalent to 28 mm wide angle, and numerous manual controls, the GR Digital is a most interesting camera for the connoisseur. The digital part, with 8.3 MP image resolution and a 2.5” LCD screen, adds the features required in a modern high-end camera. The GR Digital delivers outstanding image quality at low ISO speeds, but suffers from fairly high image noise at higher sensitivities. The lack of optical viewfinder and optical zoom, insufficient buffer memory, slow DNG storage speed, and mediocre battery capacity are the main disadvantages of the Ricoh GR Digital.”
