Fujifilm FinePix S5600 ZoomImaging Resource have published a review of the Fujifilm FinePix S5600 Zoom (also known as the S5200 in the US), a 5 megapixel compact digital camera with Fujifilm’s new 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor with Real Photo Technology.

“Fujifilm’s greatest success has been in creating good-quality midrange cameras that sell at very competitive prices, and the new Fuji S5200 aims to continue that success. A couple of years ago, Fuji introduced long-zoom digicams at affordable price levels with their FinePix 2800 and 3800 models. Now, the Fuji S5200 advances the cause even further, with a 5.1-megapixel CCD (up from the S5100’s 4.0-Mp CCD), a 10x optical zoom lens, and a host of exposure modes and features. While it still sports a fully automatic mode, the Fuji FinePix S5200 goes beyond basic “point & shoot” capability with Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual modes, as well as a few Scene modes. The Fuji S5200 offers very long-zoom capability and greater exposure control at a surprisingly affordable price.”

Canon EOS 30DCNET are the first online resource to review the new Canon EOS 30D DSLR.

“There are a few aspects of the 30D that Canon didn’t change but that could have used an update. The battery didn’t last for the length of one of my shooting sessions, or about 250 photos. The lens still casts a shadow when using the onboard flash at wide-angle focal lengths with some lenses. And the viewfinder still shows only 95 percent of the scene. Nonetheless, it remains the top-notch model that the 20D was.”

Olympus mju 700DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Olympus Stylus 710 (also known as the mju 700 in Europe), a 7.1 megapixel camera with 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD and a weatherproof body.

“The 710’s ergonomics are excellent. This is a durable model that has a well built feel to it. The very compact size allows it to be carried in almost any size pocket or purse. But, its unique “wedge” shape still offers a comfortable feel, with the right hand side being “fatter” for an easier grip. The various controls laid out across the back of the body are well placed and functional, with your thumb falling over them naturally.”

Canon Digital IXUS WIRELESSTrustedReviews have just reviewed the Canon PowerShot SD430 (also known as the Digital IXUS WIRELESS), which features automatic wireless image transfer, wireless control of camera shooting functions from a PC and ships with a wireless print adapter.

“Of course the camera’s big party piece is its wireless connectivity. As features go I’m still not sure it’s that useful, but I have to admit I was very impressed by how easy it was to set up. I experienced some slight technical difficulties when I tried the Nikon P1, but with the IXUS Wireless it was simply a matter of installing the supplied software, connecting the camera via the USB lead to set it up to talk to my computer, and then the wireless link was established.”

(Weymouth, MA) March, 20 2006… According to a new study from InfoTrends, the worldwide digital camera market continues to demonstrate a strong year-over-year unit growth rate. 2006 sales are expected to reach nearly 89 million units, representing a 15% increase over 2005. Even though worldwide unit and revenue figures are on the rise, shipments are expected to peak soon in North America and Western Europe. Growth in the Asia-Pacific region, Eastern Europe, and Latin America will offset these declines and continue to drive growth through 2010. In fact, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to become the leading region for digital cameras by the end of the forecast period.

Nikon D200Thom Hogan has just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.

“The D200 is a completely new body design that seems almost a perfect hybrid of the D50/D70 and D2 series. It has the size, pop-up flash, and battery heritage from the D100/D70/D50 progression, but the feature set, button layout, and menus of the D2 series. The D200 body construction is more like that of a D2, including metal framing and gaskets for weather protection, but in your hands it feels much more like the lower-end cameras due to the smaller size and some external construction cues. The one new thing not shared with other current Nikon camera body is the autofocus system, which we’ll get to in detail in a bit. Compared to the D100 it replaced, the D200 has gone way upscale. The D200 is better built, better specified, has many more features, and is much more “pro-like” than “consumer.”“

AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-EDThom Hogan has cast his critical eye over the new Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens.

“One of the surprises with the D200 announcement was that it could be purchased with a new DX wide angle to telephoto zoom lens. Having a kit lens for consumer camera isn’t new for Nikon, but this was a doozy: 18-200mm focal lengths plus vibration reduction and AF-S speed. This looked like the do-all, be-all lens for virtually everything except extreme wide angle, extreme telephoto, extreme macro, and extreme low light. In other words, a lens you would use most of the time.”

PhlashPhlash (TM) Lifts Cameraphone Photography Out of the Dark Ages; Phlash Attaches to Any Cameraphone, Providing Powerful Lighting to Enable Quality Picture Taking Indoors and at Night

VENICE, Calif.—March 20, 2006—Foxden Holdings, LLC today introduced Phlash(TM), the world’s first universal cameraphone flash designed to provide powerful, even lighting for superior mobile phone photography. “There are 100 million cameraphones being used today, but less than 1 percent include a built-in flash. And unfortunately, even those built-in flashes are very weak because they are often added by manufacturers as an afterthought,” said Dale Fox, director, Foxden Holdings and the inventor of Phlash. “That’s ironic, considering most consumers use cameraphones to take quick, candid photos indoors—at restaurants, clubs, or other places with insufficient lighting. To solve this problem, we developed Phlash. Phlash is 12 times brighter than most built-in flashes, and allows anyone who already owns a cameraphone to finally take quality pictures indoors and at night.”

Olympus E-330DPReview have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.

“The introduction of the E-330 confused us, it was difficult to see where this new camera fitted into the current digital SLR market. It’s more expensive than the more traditional (but in my opinion better) E-500 yet offers very little more other than live view. Olympus has tried to address one complaint we (and others) had about the E-300, and that’s the design and styling. To me at least it’s only a partial achievement, the E-330 does look and handle better than the E-300 but honestly it’s still not as nice a camera to use as the E-500.”

As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, and a former Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems, as well as a recording studio owner/operator, and now, a digital camera enthusiast, GARY has more digital camera knowledge in his entire brain than most people have in their little finger. In the unlikely event that GARY would not know the answer to your question, he will answer it anyway, true to the spirit of the word “Parries”, a fencing term which, in this context, implies “cleverly evasive answers”. So let your imagination run wild. Email all your nagging digital camera questions to: [email protected], and then, En Garde!

You may also attach an ORIGINAL PHOTO (150 x 150 pixels) to your email for display with your question.
