One of the latest projects of Luke Evans, a Kingston University photography student, was chosen for display in London’s prestigious Saatchi Gallery. The eye-catching series, named Forge, portrays grand landscapes deceptively created from small items in Luke's kitchen. The objects photographed for Luke’s collection were created using common household products such as self-raising flour, paint, fragments of brick and glycerine throat medication. They measured just a few inches across so to achieve the grand sense of scale, Luke used a popular photographic technique called tilt-shift. Luke' work will appear in the New Order: British Art Today III exhibition, expected to launch later in the year.

The Tokina AT-X 70-200mm F4 PRO FX VCM-S is a new, stabilised, full-frame telezoom lens for Nikon SLR cameras. First announced on 29 January 2013, the Tokina AT-X 70-200mm F4 PRO FX VCM-S has an optical formula comprising 19 elements in 14 groups, with a 9-bladed iris diaphragm and a 67mm filter thread. Promising three stops of advantage versus non-stabilised lenses, the Tokina AT-X 70-200mm F4 PRO FX VCM-S carries a suggested retail price of JPY 150,000, which is equivalent to about £880. Availability is slated for 30th May (in Japan). An optional tripod collar (Tokina TM-705) will also be on offer starting 30th June, priced at JPY 24,000. Sony has posted four full-resolution sample photos taken with the new Sony RX100 III digital compact camera. All four sample images were shot in aperture priority mode, at a sensitivity setting of ISO 125/22°.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III is a new premium compact camera for professionals. The Sony RX100 III features a 24-70mm F1.8-2.8 lens, retractable OLED electronic viewfinder, 20.1 megapixel back-illuminated 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor, 50 Mbps high bit-rate Full HD movies with XAVC S support, 180-degree tilting LCD screen, and a built-in 3-stop (1/8) Neutral Density filter. The price and availaibility of the new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III have yet to be confirmed.

Canon China has posted half a dozen high-resolution sample photos taken with the new Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens. Offering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 16-29mm, the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM features both a UD lens element and a range of optimised lens coatings, as well as a quiet STM focus motor, 4-stop image stabiliser and a circular iris diaphragm. The EF-S 10-18mm IS STM will be available from May 2014 with an SRP of £299.99 / €349.99 / $299.99.

Canon China has released six full-resolution sample photos captured with the new EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, Canon’s first ultra-wide L-series lens to feature image stabilisation. The lens’s optical formula includes two UD elements to minimise chromatic aberration. Super Spectra Coatings reduce ghosting and flare, while fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements prevent dust and water drops sticking to each element. The newly-designed IS system features a number of additional improvements, including gyro sensors for greater accuracy in traditional shooting or when capturing panning motion. The EF 16-35mm f4L IS USM will be available from June 2014 with an SRP of £1,199.99 / €1,399.99 / $1,199.00.

Microsoft Devices have launched the Lumia Win Win Project, a campaign aiming to reward the Lumia photographic community. The project encourages Lumia owners to enter 10 top photography competitions including the Pulitzer and IPA (International Photography Awards). Those who win any of these competitions with a photo shot on a Lumia phone will see their competition prize doubled by Microsoft. "If you win, we’ll match your prize money," the company says. "Together, we’ll change the way smartphone photography is perceived, while you get double the love. It really is a win win."As a part of the campaign, Microsoft Devices will be providing weekly photography tips on a dedicated community website called Shot on My Lumia. Lumia owners will be able to upload their shots, the best of which will be given an exemplary badge ranging in categories from ‘Foodie’ to ‘Traveller’.

Following the success of the inaugural ArtGemini Prize 2013 which attracted 744 entries from 33 countries, today sees the launch of the ArtGemini Prize 2014. Open to all photographers and painters form anywhere in the world, the ArtGemini Prize is described as "a celebration to promote international contemporary art for emerging and established artists." A cash fund of £5500 will be awarded to the winners in 4 categories, Photography, Painting & Sculpture, Young Artist and Public Choice. The shortlisted entries will be exhibited in London and Singapore. Do note that entry fees apply. The deadline for entries is 7th September.

Jennifer Schwartz, Executive Director of Crusade for Art, announced the finalists today for the first $10,000 Crusade Engagement Grant. The Crusade Engagement Grant was created to foster the exploration of innovative programs to connect new audiences to photography. Over 170 artists and photography professionals submitted applications online, outlining their proposed project idea. The ten finalists include Ken Winnick, Amy Parrish, Jason Parker, Lindsay Nicole, Larissa Leclair, Matt Eich, Matthew Conboy, Cleveland Print Room, and Lisa Armitage, Joseph Gamble, Jamie Jackson, Marian Tagliarino, Cyndi Vickers.

Avis and Getty Images have extended the deadline for extries for its “I Can’t Believe My Eyes” photo competition. Andy Letting, Head of Social Media at Avis Budget Group says, “Car travel is often seen as less glamorous than other modes of transport but with the I Can’t Believe My Eyes campaign we hope to show that this is not the case. Traveling by car opens up a whole world of possibilities - we want to celebrate road trips so are calling for people to share their best driving images to prove that how you get there can be as exciting as where you’re going.” Photos can be submitted via Avis UK's Facebook page, where you can also immerse yourself in a specially made film of beautifully captured landmarks from across the globe for inspiration. The winning shot will not only win a trip from BA Holidays, but it will also form part of the Avis advertising campaign to encourage others to open their eyes. The new deadline for UK entries is 21 May, and the lucky overall winner will be announced on 19 June 2014.
