Nikon has posted an update to Capture NX. Version 2.4.0 adds support for raw files created by the Nikon 1 J3 (pictured) and Nikon 1 S1 compact system cameras, incorporates a couple of modifications to White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette, and fixes a bug related to JPEG image display. The Windows variant of the software additionally gains compatibility with 64- and 32-bit Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise (though without touchscreen support), whereas the MacOS edition adds support for high-res Retina displays. The Samsung WB250F long-zoom model (MSRP: $249.99) and DV150F DualView camera ($149.99) – which both offer Wi-Fi connectivity for photo sharing, backup and a range of other features – are available now at retailers across the U.S.A. Announced at CES, the “Smart Camera 2.0” range is aimed at smartphone users yearning for better imaging performance. RCP-Technik has launched the Rollei iSY and iSY Wi-Fi photo printers that allow users to print their photographs directly from a smartphone, tablet or PictBridge compliant digital camera. Both models are dye-sublimation printers that can output prints of up to 10x15cm (4"x6”) from regular photos and up to 10x45cm (4"x18”) from panoramic images, at a resolution of 300dpi. The Rollei iSY Photo Printer will go on sale from mid-February for a recommended retail price of €159.95. The WiFi version will be available for €179.95. Each printer comes with a Rollei iSY 36 cartridge. Replacement cartridges - sufficient for 36 borderless prints in 10x15cm format - are priced at €13.99 each.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced the upcoming release of a basic camera module priced at $25. Featuring a tiny back-illuminated CMOS sensor with 5 million photosites and a pixel pitch of 1.4µm, the camera module is capable of capturing five-megapixel stills as well as Full HD movies through the integrated fixed-focus lens. The exact availability of the Raspberry Pi imaging module has yet to be confirmed, but the company says the launch is “at least a month away.”

Equivalent to a 85mm f/1.9 lens (in terms of angle of view and depth of field), the Voigtländer Nokton 42mm f/0.95 comprises eleven elements in eight groups and comes with a stepless 10-blade diaphragm. The lens takes standard 58mm filters and focuses down to 23cm. Availability is slated for Summer 2013, with pricing to be communicated.

Sony has posted firmware updates for the Sony NEX-F3, NEX-5R, NEX-5N, NEX-6 and NEX-7 (pictured) compact system cameras and a couple of E-mount lenses. Fast Hybrid AF lens support for Sony’s NEX-5R/6 cameras has expanded to include six new lenses. The NEX-5N firmware upgrade also expands its Exposure Bracketing range and updates its raw format version. The upgrades for the NEX-F3/5N/7 cameras add auto compensation for use with the 16-50mm power zoom lens. New E-mount lens firmware for the E 30mm f/3.5 Macro and the E 50mm f/1.8 OSS lenses enable Fast Hybrid AF with the Sony NEX-5R and Sony NEX-6 cameras.
