Conclusion
(out of 5 stars)
The Fujifilm Finepix F11 is a pocketable, responsive digital camera that can be used in most photographic situations and which delivers fantastic images. Its main strength is the combination of amazing performance at ISO 800 and 1600 with almost full creative control via the aperture-priority and shutter-priority modes. The Fujifilm Finepix F11 will appeal to anyone who is looking for the ability to shoot in low-light with or without flash, whilst retaining control over the picture making process, all in a form factor that can fit into a pocket and be carried at all times. In short, the The Fujifilm Finepix F11 is as near as the industry has come so far to the perfect compact digicam for the serious photographer.
Having said that, the Fujifilm Finepix F11 does have some flaws, most of which could have easily been avoided as they have been inherited from the older F10 camera. The F11 is positioned as a creative camera, yet there is no histogram available, either in shooting or playback mode. This is an important feature that every enthusiast will sorely miss. The Fujifilm Finepix F11 also lacks manual focus, which you will miss most when the camera's auto-focus fails to lock onto your intended subject (most often in low-light at the long end of the zoom range). The lack of a RAW mode might also put you off the Finepix F11, something which is exacerbated by the lack of a histogram.
Ultimately, though, the Fujifilm Finepix F11 is currently the best compact, carry-everywhere digital camera for the discerning photographer. If you can live with its faults, then the F11 is a must-buy, making a great second camera for DLSR owners.
