Conclusion

3.5 stars
(out of 5 stars)

The HP Photosmart M407 is an average kind of camera at an average kind of price. It is ideally suited to complete beginners to photography, as HP have put a tremendous amount of effort into making it simple to understand and operate. The great help system, accessible external controls and simple, uncluttered menu system all combine to make the M407 one of the most approachable digicams available. On the other hand, many key areas fail to impress. The camera's feature list, performance and image quality are all ordinary, which is perhaps to be expected when it costs less than £150, but perhaps not when competitors like the Konica Minolta Z10 deliver so much for the same price. You could do a lot worse than the HP Photosmart M407, but you could also do quite a lot better. If useability is at the top of your list of requirements then the HP Photosmart M407 is definitely worth considering; otherwise I would suggest that you look elsewhere.
