Sharpness at 100mm

The sharpness tests for this review were carried out using a real-world subject rather than a test chart. The Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM lens was attached to a Canon EOS RP body, which in turn was mounted on a sturdy tripod. Self-timer mode was activated. Slight tonal changes are due to slight changes in natural light during the session.

At both the centre and the edges of the frame, the lens is pleasingly sharp even wide open at f/2.8. It is excellent between f/4 and f/11, becoming ever so slightly softer at f/16. At the narrowest apertures of f/22 and f/32, centre sharpness is softer again due to diffraction.
