Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S Review

Conclusion
Nikon has introduced a good variety of lenses for its mirrorless full-frame cameras in the two-and-a-bit years since they were first introduced to the market.
Having a trio of professional-level f/2.8 lenses taking you all the way from 14mm to 200mm really helps the Z system to feel like a viable option for enthusiast and professional photographers.
The Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S lens is arguably more of a niche lens than the others in the f/2.8 “trinity” (24-70mm and 70-200mm), but it actually has quite a wide variety of practical applications if you want (or need) to get the maximum value from it.
At the wider end, it's helpful for landscapes and architectural type shots, while at the shorter end you can use it for a wide variety of subjects, conceivably even environmental-type portraits.
Although the lens balances fairly well with the full-frame models in the Z line-up, it's perhaps a little too big to be considered a good “walkaround” lens, but if you have a particular penchant for shooting at wide-angles, it could be one to consider.
That said, the 14-30mm f/4 lens is much smaller and more compact, and is therefore more likely to appeal to a broader range of photographers. It would be hard to recommend the 14-24mm f/2.8 for Z50 users, who would undoubtedly be better served by the cheaper and smaller optic.
If however you want the best of the best when it comes to image quality and sharpness, as well as having access to a wider aperture, the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is an excellent option. If you're a professional landscape photographer it'd be a good choice, especially if you're particularly keen on using filters.
Of course, this high-quality performance comes at a price and this is by no means a cheap lens - at £2,500, it's roughly the same price as the other lenses in the f/2.8 trinity, but is a good jump up from the 14-30mm.
If you're somebody that doesn't shoot wide-angles all that often, it's unlikely to be overly appealing over the 14-30mm, but overall, the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is a fantastic lens that comes highly recommended if you have the budget.
