Sharpness at 50mm
For this test, the Sony FE 50mm F1.4 GM lens was attached to a Sony A7R IV body, which was in turn mounted to a sturdy tripod. Exposure delay mode was activated. Tonal and colour variance across the crops are due to change in natural light during the session.
The full frame at 50mm
The centre is satisfyingly sharp even wide open at f/1.4, with the peak performance achieved in the f/2.8-f/11 range. Diffraction sets in at at f/16.
The edges are a little soft at f/1.4, sharpening up somewhat at f/2, with f/4-f/11 the optimum settings.
