Sharpness at 28mm

Our sharpness tests were conducted using a 36.4-megapixel Sony Alpha 7R body and a sturdy tripod. The camera’s shutter release was also set on a timer-delay to avoid any possible camera shake. The test subject was shot using ambient lighting, hence some colour and contrast variation is to be expected between apertures.

At 28mm, centre sharpness is impressively high throughout the aperture range, apart from f/22 where diffraction causes slight softening. Move to the corners of frame and there’s noticeable softness at f/4 and f/5.6, though by f/8 corner sharpness is almost a match for the centre.
