With its curved slopes and matt black finish recalling a baby DSLR, from the front Casio's EX-FH20 looks not only attractive but, for the consumer electronics brand, unusually sophisticated too. It is also to be commended for including less well-traveled features that set it apart from the competition even if they don't go quite far enough to raise it above. It feels like the EX-FH20, though a bargain compared to the trail-blazing F1, could do with a further price drop of 50 to 100. As it stands, priced at 399 at the time of writing, there's almost no way a photo enthusiast is going to otherwise choose it over a premium brand like Canon. Photographically speaking, there's nothing that exceptional about the Casio. However if you're a YouTube junkie and as keen on video as you are shooting stills, and being able to capture slow motion footage as well as widescreen vistas floats your boat, then the Casio EXILIM Pro EX-FH20 is worth further investigation. Pity though that the optical zoom is disabled in video mode. The EX-FH20 isn't a bad camera by any means; in fact it's rather fun. But average images and performance means that some of its individual scores have to reflect that, even if overall it just scrapes a four for usability and daring to be different.
