Delkin 2TB CFexpress Type-B Memory Card

Delkin have just released a 2Tb version of their CFexpress Type-B memory cards, which are used in the Canon 1D X Mark III, Nikon Z6 and Z7, and Panasonic Lumix DC-S1 and S1R cameras.

Canon EOS R5 Video Specs Revealed

Canon have revealed more details about the video specification of the upcoming Canon EOS R5 camera, claiming that it "will offer video recording capabilities unseen in any other mirrorless camera". These will include 8K RAW internal and 4K at 120p!

Canon have officially confirmed the following video modes will be offered by the EOS R5:

• Non-cropped, internal recording 8K video capture – up to 29.97fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
• Non-cropped internal recording 4K video capture – up to 119.88fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
• 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ output via HDMI at 4K 59.94fps

The company's renowned Dual Pixel AF system will also be available in all video modes at all resolutions and frame rates, and Canon Log will be available in 8K and 4K internal recording modes.

In addition, the EOS will feature dual memory card slots, now confirmed to be 1x CFexpress and 1x SD UHS-II, while the Canon R5's 5-axis optical IBIS will enable lens IS and camera IBIS to be combined.

Sekonic L-308X Light Meter

The Sekonic L-308X is a new light meter aimed at both photographers and filmmakers. The pocket-sized Sekonic L-308X is packed with all of the latest functions, including all of those found in the L308S and L-308DC light meters. Features such as a customised new screen display and LCD backlight, Aperture (F) Priority photo mode and ISO 850, to match the native ISO of Canon cinema cameras like the C300, make the L-308X one of the most versatile and affordable photo/cine light meters available today. The Sekonic L-308X will retail for £215 in the UK.

Canon Unveils New “Canon See Impossible” Videos

Canon U.S.A. has released two new “Canon See Impossible” videos. Available for viewing now on the Canon U.S.A. website, these two new movies – “See Beyond Darkness” and “See the Light” – showcase the capabilities of Canon imaging technology in extremely low-light conditions. In “See Beyond Darkness,” the impossible assignment for Director of Photography Andy Casagrande was to record images of a rare biofluorescent turtle found only in the remote, unspoiled reefs of the Solomon Islands. The low-light capabilities of Canon’s ME20F-SH Multipurpose Camera and EOS-1D X DSLR camera enabled researchers to capture vivid images without disturbing the natural environment. In “See the Light,” Canon’s technology captured the beauty of bioluminescent creatures under the sea, the grandeur of the extremely difficult-to-photograph Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), and the wonder of the earth from far above it. The technology used by Canon to create these videos takes viewers to seemingly impossible dark places that were previously beyond what the human eye could see and technology could perceive.

Canon Compact-Servo CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S

Canon U.S.A. today announced their new Compact-Servo 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens (also known as the CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S), a compact and lightweight 4K lens designed for professional videographers. The second in a new class of Canon lenses, the Compact-Servo 70-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens is a cinema-style lens that includes a servo drive unit as a standard feature. Additionally, the lens incorporates image stabilisation, auto focus and Auto Iris functionality The lens also provides high image quality that supports 4K image productions and was designed to be utilised in a variety of shooting styles including, hand-held, shoulder mounted, and tripod mounted. Compatible with EF-mount Super 35mm large-format cameras, the lens maintains brightness across the entire focal range at T4.4 (equal to f/4.0). The lens is also compatible with both the Canon EF 1.4x III (expanded focal range of 98-280mm) and EF 2x III (expanded focal range of 140mm-400mm) external extenders, expanding the focal range of the lens for additional versatility when the shooting situation calls for it. The Canon COMPACT-SERVO 70-200mm Zoom Lens is scheduled to be available later in 2017.

Canon Celebrate 30th Anniversary of their EOS System

Canon is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the launch of its Electro Optical System (EOS), which includes EOS-series interchangeable-lens cameras and a diverse range of system accessories. The system debuted in March 1987 with the launch of the EOS 650 SLR camera and EF lenses, making EOS cameras the World’s first to incorporate an electronic mount system, representing a new generation of auto focus SLR cameras. Currently, the EOS system, including the Cinema EOS system, comprises 24 models with a selection of 97 EF lenses. To mark this milestone, Canon is displaying a range of cameras and lenses from the EOS archive on its stand at The Photography Show, including the EOS 650 and the EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM, the world’s longest focal length and largest aperture lens. Canon EOS C300 and EOS C300 Mark II Firmware Updates

Canon has announced firmware upgrades for both the Canon EOS C300 and EOS C300 Mark II digital cinema cameras. These updates add support for the Canon EVF-V70 OLED Electronic Viewfinder, WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter, Shutter Angle Priority, and a variety of lenses. The upgrades are scheduled to be available on December 13, 2016.

Canon Booms with Five New Photo/Video Announcements

Not content with launching 10 new photo products at CES, Vegas, at the start of the year, followed by the surprise announcement of the 1DX Mark II weeks later, photo stalwart Canon has launched a further five new products with May 2016 availability.

Schneider-Kreuznach Release FF Primes for Sony CSCs

Schneider-Kreuznach are showcasing an FF-Prime lens with Sony E-Mount for the first time at the International Broadcast Conference (IBC). Up to now, Schneider-Kreuznach's Xenon-branded FF-Primes - which were first announced in 2013 - have been available in Canon, Nikon and PL fit. The FF Prime lenses with Sony E-Mount will become available later this year in 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm focal lengths (all with a maximum aperture of T/2.1), priced from €2,998-€4,320.

Free Canon Pro Video event at Wilkinson Cameras

Canon at IBC2015

Canon Europe will be demonstrating its professional 4K workflow at IBC2015 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Canon stand will include dedicated areas for live capture, providing visitors with the opportunity to get hands on with Canon’s 4K and Full HD product range through a series of shooting scenarios, review and editing processes. Canon at Cine Gear Expo 2015

Canon U.S.A. will showcase its latest 4K digital cinema products in Booth #12 at Cine Gear Expo Los Angeles from 5-6 June. Visitors will have an opportunity to receive hands-on experience with the latest cinema equipment offerings including the new EOS C300 Mark II digital camera (pictured), the XC10 4K digital camcorder, and the DP-V2410 4K reference display introduced in April. The company will also have its new CINE-Servo 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 ultra-telephoto lens and EOS 5DS / 5DS R digital SLR cameras on display. Free Firmware Update for Canon DP-V3010 Reference Display

Canon is developing a free firmware update for its DP-V3010 30-inch professional UHD reference display (pictured). Through the firmware upgrade, users will be able to take advantage of such new functions as an HDR display mode, which enables the display of HDR video with minimal underexposed and overexposed areas, and a function for displaying content captured in the ITU-R BT.2020 next-generation broadcast standard colour gamut, which was adopted for 4K UHD-TV broadcasting tests. Plus, the new firmware will enable the DP-V3010 to support the latest ACESproxy transfer standard. When used in combination with input devices supporting the ACESproxy standard, the DP-V3010 display can deliver consistent colour reproduction both on-set and during the editing process, the company says. The new firmware upgrade is expected to be available in November.

Canon DP-V2410 UHD Reference Display

Canon have unveiled a 24-inch reference display featuring a 10-bit Ultra HD IPS panel, eight look-up tables and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. Weighing approximately 26lbs. the Canon DP-V2410 monitor has a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels and an aspect ratio of 17:9.  A special anti-glare coating helps ensure faithful image reproduction within challenging environments often encountered when shooting on location. A Canon-designed RGB LED backlight system and specially developed high-bit depth image processing engine helps ensure highly uniform brightness and accurate DCI-P3 colour reproduction.  The display panel and associated digital video processing offer two modes of HDR portrayal. In addition, the internal debayering facilitates direct live viewing of the uncompressed, raw 4K/2K outputs of the Canon EOS C500 and EOS C300 Mark II cameras. The Canon DP-V2410 4K Reference Display is scheduled to be available November for a list price of $18,000.

Canon Develop XF-AVC Video Format

Canon are developing a new proprietary video format for the efficient recording of high-image-quality 4K, 2K and HD video footage. Mainly targeting professional-use 4K video camcorders, Canon's new XF-AVC format promises greater workflow efficiency and convenience during the production process. Canon will employ XF-AVC primarily in the company's 4K-compatible professional-use video camcorders, such as the XC10 (to go on sale in mid June 2015) and EOS C300 Mark II (to go on sale in early September 2015).

Canon EOS C300 Mark II

The Canon EOS C300 Mark II is a new 4K video camera featuring an advanced imaging engine with dual DIGIC DV5 processors, new professional codecs and outstanding dynamic range of up to 15 stops. Equipped with an 8.85 megapixel Super 35mm Cinema CMOS Sensor, the Canon EOS C300 Mark II uses a new Canon XF-AVC Codec that allows 10-bit 4:2:2 4K image data to be recorded internally. The new imaging sensor maximizes the amount of light that falls on each photosite through a wider pixel pitch, enhancing the EOS C300 Mark II camera's sensitivity, supporting ISOs up to 102,400.The Canon EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera is expected to be available in September 2015 for an estimated retail price of $20,000.

Canon Cine-Servo 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9

The Canon Cine-Servo 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 is a new broadcast lens offering a focal range of 50-1000mm and a built-in 1.5x extender. With the world’s longest focal length (75-1500mm with its built-in 1.5x extender) and highest (20x) magnification among Super 35mm zoom lenses, the Cine-Servo zoom lens offers cinematographers new possibilities for shooting scenes in HD, 2K and 4K on single-sensor cameras. The lens features a completely removable, updated servo drive unit that enables its use in broadcast-style shooting environments where typical cine lenses are usually impractical. The design has been developed to ensure high levels of ruggedness and reliability, combining the finest quality optics with a weatherproof and shockproof construction that makes it suitable for use in the most hostile conditions when on location. Facilitating cinema-style use, lens-barrel markings are clearly engraved in both feet and meters on both sides of the barrel, and focus indicators on the front side of the lens are marked on an inclined surface to make them easy to see from the back of the camera. Compatible with a wide range of cameras, the Canon Cine-Servo 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 also supports communication between lens and camera and will be available in both EF-mount and PL-mount variants. The lens is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2015 for a suggested list price of $78,000.

Canon to Release Firmware Upgrades for Cinema Cameras

Canon will be releasing free firmware1 upgrades for both the Cinema EOS C500 4K and C300 Digital Cinema Cameras, as well as Cinema RAW Development 1.3, an updated version of Canon’s Cinema RAW Development software, in November. Offering compliance with the ITU-R BT.2020 (Rec. 2020) colour space employed in the 4K TV broadcasting tests carried out earlier this year in Japan, the firmware upgrade for the EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL camera models facilitates the capture of high-resolution video supporting this next-generation broadcast standard. The upgraded Cinema RAW Development software features the addition of 3D-LUT (Look-Up Table) for converting from Cinema Gamut/DCI-P3+ to the ITU-R BT.709 (Rec. 709) and DCI-P3 colour standards, enabling efficient video editing while maintaining low-chroma colour gradation. Additionally, support for EDLs (edit decision lists) enables only necessary time code-designated segments to be converted to the DPX and ProRes formats suitable for editing, effectively doing away with the need to process unnecessary files.

Canon Achieves Four Honours at 2014 TIPA Awards

Canon has been awarded four honours by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The EOS 70D was named Best Advanced DSLR, the title 'Best Expert Compact Camera' went to the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x (pictured) was dubbed 2014's Best Pro DSLR Lens, while Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology won the Best Imaging Innovation category.

Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95

Canon's new Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 zoom lens has been optimised for 4K resolution, and featres a removable Digital Drive Unit for shoulder mounted operation. Available in EF- and PL-mount versions, the Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 zoom lens sportsa three-group inner focus system to help minimize focus breathing and provide a stable angle of view, an 11-blade iris diaphragm, support for matte boxes, follow focus and other accessories.Compliance with industry-standard camera-to-lens communication protocols helps ensure its compatibility with multiple brands and models of video cameras. When used with a Canon EOS digital SLR, lens data - including aperture setting - are displayed in the camera's viewfinder, as well as recorded in the video file as metadata along with the model name of the lens and focal length setting. The Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 zoom lens is expected to be available in August 2014 for a suggested list price of $33,000.

Canon at NAB 2014

At the 2014 NAB Show, Canon will showcase its full line of professional, high-definition imaging equipment for motion picture, television production, video content creation, and still photography at booth C4325. The company will be showing a 4K Live Broadcast demonstration, highlighting how well HD broadcast footage can be captured, digitally rendered and cropped for live-action broadcast coverage using Canon’s Cinema EOS equipment. In addition, Canon will host a series of unique stage presentations with renowned cinematographers, broadcast specialists, and filmmakers.  These industry professionals will provide insight into the ever-changing field of optical and imaging technology and showcase their projects and works that were shot using Canon equipment. New Firmware Updates for Canon Cinema Cameras & Camcorders

Canon has announced a variety of performance updates for cameras in its Cinema EOS and XF professional camcorder line. Designed for the capture of crucial, unpredictable scenes during wedding/event, documentary, news, or wildlife filming, the Continuous Recording Function firmware update for the EOS C100 Digital Video Camera enables videographers to insert metadata markers identifying crucial scenes and moments in their footage while continuously recording to the memory capacity. A new Peripheral Illumination Correction firmware update adds the CN-E35mm T1.5 L F Cinema prime lens and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM telephoto zoom lens to the seven other Canon CN-E Series Cinema Lenses that share this performance advantage, Finally, there is an optional dual-pixel CMOS autofocus feature upgrade available for the Canon EOS C300 Cinema camera, adding support for continuous AF with all compatible Canon EF series lenses when shooting subjects positioned in the centre of the imaging area. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF feature upgrade for the EOS C300 Cinema camera will be made available to users through an authorised service centre.

Canon EF CN-E35mm T1.5 L F

Canon has unveiled a new EF Cinema prime lens. Featuring an eleven-bladed iris diaphragm, 300° focus rotation and a close-focus point of 30cm, the 4K-ready Canon EF CN-E35mm T1.5 L F is the sixth member of Canon’s line of compact, precision-matched EF-mount Cinema prime lenses, which also includes 14mm, 24mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm focal lengths. Ensuring consistency when shooting across a number of different Cinema prime lenses, the new 35mm lens provides colour reproduction that matches others in the range, as well as featuring the same form factor and uniform markings, making it easy to switch between lenses when on a shoot. The Canon CN-E35mm T1.5 L F Cinema prime lens is expected to be available in December 2013 for an estimated retail price of $5,200.

Tenba Expands Roadie II Video Bag Series

Tenba has expanded its Roadie II video bag series with two new larger sizes. The new Roadie Video Backpack and Roadie Shoulder Bag will be about 20 percent larger than the bags that were launched earlier this year. Both bags are designed to fit the latest digital camera/video systems, including DSLRs from Canon (5D Mark III, EOS-1D X) and Nikon (D4, D800), and larger gear from RED (Epic, Scarlet), Canon (C100/C300/C500) and Sony (FS100/FS700), along with a laptop and a full assortment of accessories. The larger Roadie II Video Backpack and Shoulder Bag will be available in January 2013, with pricing to be announced.

Canon EOS C100 & C500

Canon has expanded its Cinema EOS line-up with two new cameras, the Canon EOS C100 Digital Video Camera and the Canon EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera. As promised back in April, the Canon EOS C500 (pictured) is Canon’s high-end professional 4K (4096x2160-pixel) cinema camera capable of originating uncompressed raw output for external recording to meet the demands of premium cinematic productions and other top-quality production markets. The C100 digital video camera is a compact, “entry-level” model delivering Full HD video using the AVCHD codec. The C500 will be available in both EF- and PL-mount versions; while the C100 will be offered in EF mount only. The Canon EOS C500 and C500 PL 4K Digital Cinema Cameras are scheduled to be available in October for an estimated list price of $30,000. The Canon EOS C100 Digital Video Camera is scheduled to be available in November 2012 for an estimated list price of $7,999.

Canon CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S/SP and CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L S/SP

Coinciding with the launch of the EOS C100 and C500 cameras, Canon has announced the addition of two new zoom lenses to its Cinema EOS system. Available in both EF- and PL-mount versions, the CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S/SP wide-angle cinema zoom lens (pictured) and the CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L S/SP telephoto cinema zoom lens are engineered to deliver exceptional optical performance for the latest large-format single-sensor 4K and 2K digital cinematography cameras. The Canon CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S/SP wide-angle cinema zoom lens is expected to be available in November 2012 and the CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L S/SP telephoto cinema zoom lens is expected to be available in January 2013, both for an estimated list price of $24,500 each.

Canon Wins Six Honours at the 2012 TIPA Awards

Canon has been awarded six separate honours by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The award-winning Canon products include the EOS C300 (Best Professional Video Camera), the EOS 5D Mark III (Best Video DSLR), the not-yet-available EOS-1D X (Best Professional DSLR, pictured), the EF 8-15mm f4L USM Fisheye (Best Professional DSLR Lens), the Powershot G1 X (Best Expert Compact Camera) and the Pixma MG8250 (Best Multifunction Photo Printer).

Canon EOS C500 Under Development

Canon has announced the development of a new digital cinema camera capable of recording 4K-resolution video. The Canon EOS C500 will offer raw 4K output and will be available with Canon’s EF mount and the industry-standard PL mount. Furthermore, 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 signal during 2K (2,048 x 1,080 pixels) video output will deliver rich colour and high compatibility with image processes such as chroma key compositing. Support for frame rates up to 120p in both 4K and 2K resolution will provide enhanced creative flexibility, enabling high-speed (slow-motion) video capture in high resolution. A development prototype of the EOS C500 digital cinema camera will be on display at NAB 2012. In the UK, the EOS C500 will be available from Q4 2012, priced at £20,000 / €24,600 RRP including VAT. In the US, Canon U.S.A. has “preliminary plans” for offering the camera at a suggested list price of “approximately $30,000”.

Canon EOS C300 Receives BBC Approval

Canon today announced that the Canon EOS C300, the first model from the new Cinema EOS System, has met the standards the BBC requires from cameras tested to the EBU recommendation EBU R118. The approval allows both internal and external BBC production teams to use the EOS C300 for the production of a variety of programmes to be broadcast on the BBC’s range of HD channels. The EOS C300 is the third professional camcorder from Canon to be approved by the BBC since the start of 2011, joining the XF305 and XF300 Full HD camcorders, which were approved for use in January last year.

Canon EOS C300

The Canon EOS C300 is an all-new interchangeable-lens digital video camera equipped with a newly developed Super 35 mm-equivalent 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor. The sensor reads Full HD video signals for each of the three RGB primary colours, decreasing the incidence of moiré while realising high resolution with 1,000 horizontal TV lines.Supported by a heightened signal read-out speed, the CMOS sensor reduces rolling shutter skews, and employs 4:2:2 colour sampling for high-resolution performance that minimises the appearance of “jaggies” at chroma edges. In addition to frame rates of 59.41i, 50.00i, 29.97P, 25.00P and 23.98P, the EOS C300 features a 24.00p mode, matching the 24 frame-per-second frame rate of traditional motion picture cameras. The Canon EOS C300 comes in two versions, an EF-mount model compatible with Canon’s current line-up of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS single-lens reflex cameras and new EF Cinema Lens line-up (available from January); and the EOS C300 PL Digital Video Camcorder, with a PL lens mount for use with industry-standard PL lenses (slated for a March release). The list price of the EOS C300 - in either mount - is $20,000. UK pricing to be confirmed.

Canon Cinema EOS System

Canon has launched the Cinema EOS System, a new professional digital cinematography system that spans the lens, digital video camcorder and digital SLR camera product categories. The system currently comprises seven new 4K EF Cinema Lenses — four zoom lenses and three single-focal-length models —, an interchangeable-lens digital video camcorder called the Canon EOS C300 and equipped with a Super 35-mm-equivalent CMOS sensor, and a new digital SLR camera currently under development that features a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor supporting the recording of 4K video. The Canon EOS C300 will also be available with a PL mount.
