Epson has joined forces with X-Rite to bring together two the R2880 printer and i1Display 2 calibrator in one convenient package. The i1Display 2 offers essential colour control tools, such as ambient check and match, workgroup match, and push-button calibration and validation. Once the image is ready to be printed, the Stylus Photo R2880 matches the colours with impressive accuracy. The Epson R2880 and X-Rite i1Display 2 are available now for £669.99.

The catchily-named HD-0310 is the world’s first 1080P digital photo viewer. Sony has released a 16GB, high-speed UDMA compact flash card. The 16GB Sony 300x Compact Flash offers a uper-fast 45MB/second write speed. This makes it the perfect partner for UDMA-enabled cameras such as Sony’s ? DSLR range, letting you to record more frames per second in continuous shooting mode. The card also comes with a 5 year warranty and image recovery service. Price and availability of the 16GB Sony 300x Compact Flash to be announced.

Samsung have introduced NaBee, a wirelss USB connection for digital cameras. Samsung NaBee allows for a simple, high-speed wireless communication between a digital still camera and PC. Plug the miniature dongle into the camera USB connector, and its matching dongle into the PC and it connects just like a standard USB cable. NaBee will be available in December 2008.

Leaf and Sinar are expanding their strategic alliance to include sharing of digital imaging technology. The first step of the planned cooperation will provide access for Sinar AG to the new Leaf AFi-II medium format system. “Our intention is to combine the extraordinary image quality and digital technology of Leaf products with Sinar’s vast knowledge and experience in creating superior medium format cameras,” said Dov Kalinski, general manager of Leaf. “As we expand our strategic cooperation with Sinar, we expect to see more new products that enhance the offerings of both companies.”

Lexar has increased the speed of its professional Compact Flash memory cards to 233x. The Lexar Professional 233x CF memory cards are now UDMA-enabled and capable of minimum-sustained read and write speeds of 35MB per second, a considerable improvement over the previous read and write speeds of 20MB per second. “The new Lexar Professional 233x CF cards provide the reliability, speed, and capacity photographers require to shoot continuously and confidently, while improving post-production workflow capabilities.” said Greg Agustin, senior product marketing manager, Lexar. The new cards are also complemented by the line of Lexar Professional UDMA-compatible high-speed card readers.

Lexar has introduced a Kodak branded 16GB SDHC Card. The new 16GB Kodak SDHC High-Speed Card is speed-rated at 60x, capable of minimum sustained read and write speeds of 9MB per second. “The KODAK SDHC High-Speed Card is an excellent choice for not only Kodak cameras, but all SDHC-compatible digital cameras. The strength of the KODAK brand paired with Lexar’s high-speed, high-capacity capabilities enables users of the card to experience the enhanced benefits of today’s digital cameras.” said Manisha Sharma, director of product marketing, Lexar. The 16GB Kodak SDHC Card will be available in October.

The JOBO photoGPS is a small and lightweight GPS receiver that fits directly on any digital camera’s hot shoe. The photoGPS allows for automatic geo-tagging by capturing raw GPS data and time, which it stores in its own internal memory. “JOBO’s new photoGPS has been designed to be easy-to-use and extremely compact allowing it to be a travel-friendly accessory for people wanting to share the joy of their adventurous lifestyle with others. Other mostly organizer-based geo-tagging solutions can be both expensive and/or cumbersome.” said Johannes Bockemuehl-Simon, JOBO’s CEO. The 60 megapixel Hasselblad H3DII-60 camera will be launched in 2009. Speaking at Photokina this week, Christian Poulsen, CEO of Hasselblad commented “The H3DII-60 will feature a 60 megapixel sensor that provides 94% full-frame, 645 coverage. We feel that it’s important to emphasize the 94% coverage, because, although we hear the phrase ‘full-frame’ being used quite frequently, no manufacturer has yet achieved true medium format full-frame.” Priced at $27,995, the 50 megapixel H3DII-50 (pictured) is available for immediate delivery and the H3DII-60, which will be priced at $35,495, will be available in April 2009. As well as the H3DII-60 and H3DII-50 cameras, Hasselblad is also launching a new versatile zoom lens, the HCD 4.0-5.6/35-90mm, and a HTS 1.5 Tilt and Shift Adapter.

Geotate and SiGe Semiconductor are working on a GPS solution to bring photo geotagging to low-cost, mass-market digital cameras. The collaboration initially combines Geotate’s unique Yuma and Kato geotagging software with SiGe’s award winning front end SE4120 GPS radio chip. “This partnership provides an opportunity for the 150 million consumer cameras sold each year to automatically geotag images,” commented Geotate vice president sales and marketing Mark Terry.  “While there is a growing body of evidence that geotagging solution will help differentiate mainstream digital camera devices and accelerate sales, the cost of this solution raises the possibility that geotagging can become more than this.” The combined Geotate/SiGe GPS solution will be available in Q4 2008.

Pretec has unveiled 64GB and 100GB, 233X Compact Flash cards, the highest capacity CF cards in the world. Not satisfied with having the largest cards, Pretec have also announced the fastest - super high speed 333X 32GB and 50GB CF cards capable of running up to 50 MB per second of Read/Write speed. Pretec 64GB CF cards can be configured or reused to make a 256GB SATA, the highest capacity 2.5” SSD, by using Pretec Q-SATA, a patent-pending technology of flexible, scalable and modular SATA/PATA design based on up to 4 CF cards.

Fujifilm have unveiled Super CCD EXR, a new ‘three-in-one’ sensor for high resolution, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. Fujfilm’s ultimate aim is to “produce a sensor that works as close to that of the human eye as possible.” The Super CCD EXR sensor attempts to achieve this by using a new arrangement of the mosaic colour filter, with two side-by-side, same-coloured pixels taken together as a single pixel (so-called Pixel Fusion Technology). The Super CCD EXR sensor capture two images of the same scene, one taken at high sensitivity and the other at low sensitivity, and then merges the two images to generate a photo that has excellent depth and range (Dual Capture Technology). Finally, the structure of the new Super CCD EXR exploits all the pixels in the layer beneath the new colour filter matrix and takes advantage of the optimised signal processing of the new RP processor to create an image with the highest possible resolution quality (Fine Capture Technology). The first camera with the new sensor is likely to be a “premium compact” model and be available early next year.

Lexar have released the 2Gb Shoot-n-Sync Wi-Fi memory card, a rebranded version of Eye-Fi’s Share card. As an Eye-Fi Connected product, the Lexar Shoot-n-Sync Wi-Fi memory card features Eye-Fi technology and connects to Eye-Fi’s web service to wirelessly and automatically upload photos from a digital camera to the web and to a computer. Compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, the 2GB Lexar Shoot-n-Sync Wi-Fi memory card will ship in October, price to be announced.

The 22 megapixel Mamiya ZDb Digital Back will make its debut at Photokina next week. The ZDb Digital Back transforms the Mamiya 645AFDII, Mamiya 645AFDIII, RZ67Pro-IID and RB67Pro-SD from professional quality film cameras into high-end digital systems. This updated version of the Mamiya ZD Digital Back system has been enhanced with up to twice the amount of memory, which means that you can continuously shoot up to 22 frames of full resolution RAW files before the buffer is full. The Mamiya ZDb back is now compatible with SDHC cards. Pricing and delivery will be announced in the fall of 2008.
