Today marks the opening of Jessops’s 50th store. The new concession shop officially opened its doors to Christmas shoppers today at Sainsbury’s in Emersons Green, Bristol. Leica will open a second London-based store at The Royal Exchange. Following the success of its Mayfair store, Leica is expanding its retail presence with this new outlet – known as the Leica Store City – enabling customers in The City and East of London to experience the German brand’s full range of photographic and optics products, as well as providing access to the company’s services, such as its Akademie creative photography workshop programme. Amazon has just  opened its new multi-million pound  fashion photography studio in London. At 46,000 sq ft, it  houses 22 individual photography bays, a large state-of-the-art editorial  suite, video editing facilities, a creative fashion library, and several offices. “Our aim is to make Amazon the best place to buy fashion online,” said  Sergio Bucher, Vice President of Amazon Fashion EU.  “The opening of our new fashion studio, in  the heart of one of the leading fashion capitals of the world, illustrates our  ambitions.” The new Amazon Fashion Photography Studio is situated on Geffrye  Street in Shoreditch.

George Eastman House's Technology Collection has been recognised as an Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for its historic significance as the world's leading collection of photographic and cinematographic technology. The vast collection includes a daguerreotype camera signed by Daguerre, an original 1888 Kodak, Ansel Adams's first cameras, a Technicolor camera that filmed MGM classics, the NASA Lunar Orbiter, the Speed Graphic camera that captured the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, and many other technical marvels. "The collection at George Eastman House promotes the legacy of a great inventor while telling the story of an industry that has brought fun, leisure, and entertainment to many," said Madiha El-Mehelmy Kotb, past president of ASME. "This landmark designation pays tribute to the mechanical engineering ingenuity that has been incorporated in these devices." ASME has designated landmarks, sites, and collections of historic importance to mechanical engineering since 1971 through its History and Heritage Landmarks Programme. Landmark status indicates that the artifact, site, or collection represents a significant step forward in the evolution of mechanical engineering and is the best known example of its kind.

Citing "increased public concerns over privacy and the need for photographers to protect themselves and the people they photograph," The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) has produced a generic model release form which it has made freely available for all photographers to download. "A model release form specifies how pictures can be used and is there to protect both the photographer and his/her subjects," the Society said in a statement.
