Fujifilm has issued a firmware update for its X-T1 compact system camera (pictured). Version 1.10 incorporates the following improvements and fixes:

• Addition of compatibility with "XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR"
• Improvement of "Exposure compensation/exposure indicator" in EVF. Values are added to the scales of the indicator for better visibility.
• Improvement of Movie-record button operability. To avoid an accidental movie shooting, the delayed time will become longer between the moment you press the button and a movie shooting starts or ends.
• The phenomenon is fixed that images are not recorded with the set interval when "INTERVAL" in "INTERVAL TIMER SHOOTING" is set to 5 sec or less. In this case, the setting of "IMAGE DISP." in "SCREEN SET-UP" will change to "OFF" automatically.

Nikon has issued a firmware update for the Nikon 1 S2 compact system camera. According to the company, Version 1.01 fixes the following bug: "When Display brightness under Display in the setup menu was set to a negative value, monitor display turned completely white and actual display could not be seen. Panasonic UK has announced three Lumix G promotions. Samsung invites consumers to #DITCHtheDSLR at Ditch Day on New York’s Times Square today from 12pm – 6pm ET. Attendees have the opportunity to trade-in a DSLR in exchange for a new Samsung NX30 (pictured). The event features several unique shooting stations where consumers have the opportunity to experience the full line of mirrorless and SMART cameras in a variety of scenarios. Additionally, a group of Samsung #Imageloggers are on hand discussing their experiences since ditching the DSLR in favour of Samsung’s NX cameras and offering up tips for how to capture great images. Olympus is to release beautifully crafted special editions of its OM-D E-M10 compact system camera. Featuring luxury accessories, textures and colours, the E-M10 Limited Edition is available in a specially created shade of green (pictured), black or orange. Accessories include an exclusive genuine-leather shoulder strap and an ‘OM-D’ lens cap that exactly matches the grip and strap. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Limited Edition will be available through selected stockists exclusively at Harrods – from late June 2014, for £749.

Sony today announced availability and pricing details for its Alpha A7S full-frame compact system camera. The Sony A7S will go on general sale in Europe from the end of July 2014 priced at approximately £2,100 and is available to pre-order now on country-specific Sony websites. Additionally, the company announced that the A7S will offer the user the ability to activate a ‘Silent Shooting’ mode, thus making the photographer as unobtrusive as possible. In addition, the recently announced RX100 III will start shipping in Europe at the beginning of July 2014 and will be priced at approximately £700.

Leica has posted a firmware update for the Leica T compact system camera. According to the German company, Version 1.1 "fulfils 100% the scope of functions and performance of the camera as described in the manual." You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.

Olympus has issued a firmware update for its PEN E-P5 compact system camera. Version 1.5 fixes a bug related to the display of aperture, sensitivity and shutter speed that plagued firmware version 1.4. You can update your camera's firmware using the free Digital Camera Updater utility.

B&H has started taking pre-orders for the Sony Alpha A7S full-frame compact system camera. Available from July, the 4K-capable Sony A7S sells for $2498 in a body-only configuration, which is only $200 dearer than the Sony A7R. The Sony A7S is a new 12.2-megapixel compact system camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor, 4K movie recording, a sensitivity range of ISO 50 to 102,400 (extendable to ISO 409,600)  and an improved auto focus system that remains operational down to light levels as low as -4EV. Using data read-out from every single pixel of the 35mm full-frame sensor, the Sony A7S records 4K movies (24p and 25p) that are free from aliasing and jaggies. The camera's professional video functions include XAVC S Full HD recording at 50Mbps, time code and optional XLR audio inputs.

The Nikon 1 S2 is a new compact system camera featuring a 14-megapixel CX sensor and the world's fastest continuous shooting frame rates. Designed without an optical low-pass filter, and offering a wide 200–12800 ISO range, the Nikon 1 S2 shoots ten raw-format images at up to 20 fps with continuous autofocus, and at up to 60 fps with focus fixed at the first frame. Other highlights include a hybrid AF system with 135 focus points including 73 on-chip PDAF sensors, a 3" display with a resolution of 460,000 dots, 1080/60p movies, high-speed video recording for slow-motion playback, and microSD memory card compatibility. The Nikon 1 S2 will be available for around £380 / $450 for a single-lens kit. A double-lens kit including the camera, 11-27.5mm standard zoom and 30-110mm telezoom will also be available, priced at around £530 / $700.

Nikon has announced US availability and pricing information for the Nikon 1 J4 compact system camera. Announced in April, the Nikon 1 J4 is a new, WiFi-enabled compact system camera with an 18-megapixel CX sensor with no low-pass filter, a 1-million-dot 3" touchscreen, improved hybrid AF system and an aluminium housing. The auto focus system offers 105 focus points with phase-detection AF and 171 focus points with contrast-detect AF. The Nikon 1 J4 supports high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 20fps with AF tracking, and up to 60fps when focus is locked. Other highlights include a sensitivity range of ISO 100-12,800, Full HD 60p movies, improved Motion Snapshots and manual exposure modes. Available in May 2014 the Nikon 1 J4, kitted with the 1 Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-Zoom lens, will be sold at $649.95, while a kit with the 1 Nikkor 10-100mm f/4.0-5.6 VR lens will also be available for $849.95. Additionally, a double lens kit including the 1 Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-Zoom lens and 1 Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 lens will be available for $1,049.95.

Samsung today announced the Samsung NX3000, the latest edition to Samsung’s award winning NX series of compact system cameras. Key features include an APS-C sized 20.3-megapixel CMOS imager, 3" flip-up display,  5fps continuous shooting, Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity and a top shutter speed of 1/4000s. The NX3000 will be available in White, Black and Brown, and will feature Samsung’s new compact 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS lens. Availability is slated for June, with pricing to be communicated.

As the first female Fuji X-Photographer in the UK, Kerry Hendry has teamed up with Fujifilm and Aspire Photography Training to host three seminars in May, August and November. The first one-day event, entitled Becoming a Storyteller with the Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1, is scheduled for 29th May and has a Midsummer's Night theme.
