The Hasselblad Masters Award 2008 celebrates the best in both established and rising photographic talent. Submissions for 2008 will be accepted from both professional photographers using large and medium format cameras and up and coming photographers, regardless of length of time in the business or camera format used. Winners will receive the use of an H3D digital camera system for two periods during 2008. Applications for the 2008 Hasselblad Masters Awards are being accepted until November 1st, 2007.

Brazilian photographer Julio Bittencourt is the winner of the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2007. Bittencourt submitted a series of portraits of inhabitants of a house occupied by homeless people in downtown São Paulo. Honourable mentions went to Spaniard José Cendon and Norwegian Margaret M. de Lange. Held since 1979 in memory of the inventor of the first 35mm camera, Oskar Barnack, the competition focuses on the relationship between man and his environment.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Mr. Tung Khanh Le of Vietnam for his work entitled ” crossing waves.” More than 16,000 entrants submitted in excess of 47,000 photographs, with works coming from a total of 135 countries and regions.
