HP Photosmart R967Megapixel.net have reviewed the new 10 megapixel HP Photosmart R967 digital camera.

“In the final analysis, the impression one takes away after using this 10-megapixel compact is rather mixed. While the maximum image size of this compact makes it possible to crop out undesirable areas of images and then print them to standard sizes 4 x 6 (10 x 15 cm), or 5 x 7 (13 x 18 cm), the fact is that most users will not fill albums with 8.5 x 11 inches (A4 approximately) prints. However, the physical dimensions of the CCD, and the number of pixels that it supports makes it more prone to noise than a comparable size sensor with fewer pixels. “

Leica D-Lux 3CNET have the first online review of the Leica D-Lux 3, which offers a 10 megapixel sensor, 28-112mm lens, 16:9 format and optical image stabilizer.

“Unfortunately, these are extremely small pixels, which equal extremely high noise. From a measurement standpoint, the D-Lux 3 fares much better than the DMC-LX2 at all ISO speeds, with the gap widening as ISO sensitivity increases. However, that seems to be caused by Leica’s more-aggressive filtering, which reduces sharpness. The good news is that they print better than they look on-screen, though you’d be well advised to avoid serious crops.”

Canon PowerShot A700DigiCamReview have reviewed the Canon PowerShot A700, a 6 megapixel camera with ISO 800, 2.5 inch LCD and a 6x optical zoom lens.

“I’ve been using the Canon Powershot A700 for nearly 6 months now and taken thousands of photos with it - this camera has consistently produced excellent results and been able to take great photos in every situation, including WWE shows! Image quality is excellent with great colours, and the 6x optical zoom lens is an excellent feature, especially as the camera is not much bigger than a lot of other 3x optical zoom lens cameras.”

Leica V-Lux 1CNET have reviewed the Leica V-Lux 1, which has a 10 megapixel sensor, 35-420mm lens and optical image stabilizer.

“The most attractive feature of the Leica V-Lux 1 is its big, fast, lens: a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 12x optical, 35mm-to-420mm (35mm equivalent), f/2.8-to-f/3.7 zoom. Coupled with Panasonic’s Mega OIS optical image stabilization, this lens’s long reach becomes even more useful, but it would’ve been better if the lens was wider than 35mm. Since not many superzooms go that wide, it’d be a nice selling point and would help when trying to shoot group portraits. Of course, that’d probably push the price of this camera up even more, and it definitely doesn’t need that.”

“Don’t be embarrassed if you mistake the Fuji S6000fd for a digital SLR. After taking my test model out of the box, it took a few seconds of monkeying with the 28 - 300mm (10.71x) lens and its rubber barrel grip for me to realize it wasn’t detachable. The substantial hand grip—also rubberized—is a great touch, making this camera very easy to hold on to when toting it around strapless like a pro. Of all the “chunky” superzoom cameras I’ve tested this is the model that comes closest to looking and feeling like a digital SLR.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2.

“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 is certainly a better deal than the previously released LX1, which debuted at a pricey $599. The LX2 boasts a new faster processor, 10.2 MP CCD, better resolutions in movie and still modes, a larger 16:9 optimized 2.8-inch LCD display, the same menus and many of the same control options. Add all these improvements and the new LX2 outdoes its predecessor in every way. While the hefty price tag is still excessive, it is really the only option for a native 16:9 chip at the moment. Expect the $499 price tag of the LX2 to drop with a little time. Considering the improvements made, this camera makes a far better option than the LX1, although I can’t say its image quality justifies the $500 price.”

Ricoh Caplio R5TrustedReviews have just reviewed the Ricoh Caplio R5, a 7 megapixel camera with a 7x optical zoom lens.

“In fact image quality overall is very good, with that remarkable lens producing images that are sharp and well detailed right across the frame, with only a little blurring in the very corners and surprisingly little spherical distortion at wide angle. As is often the case with small high-powered sensors, there is significant blue fringing alongside high-contrast edges, but it’s not too obtrusive in most shots. All in all, an impressive performance from a very useful camera.”

Canon SD800 ISSteves Digicams have just reviewed the Canon SD800 IS digital camera.

“Image quality was what I expected from a Canon model, excellent. The SD800 captures beautiful images both indoor and out. Our outdoor samples were sharp with pleasing color saturation. The exposure system did very well, capturing nice sky detail. Some people may ask “Why have IS (Image Stabilization) on a short zoom camera?”. For one, it will help you capture sharper hand-held shots in marginal lighting conditions where you would normally need to use the flash, and second, it will allow you to record steady movie clips.”

Canon SD900Steves Digicams have published a review of the new 10 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 (also known as the Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti).

“Ergonomics are good. This is a very compact model, about the size of a deck of playing cards, that can be tucked away in any pocket, yet still fits comfortably in your hands. The controls layout hasn’t changed much, with only the DISPlay button being moved. I found they were in a comfortable position, just within reach of your fingertips. While we love to see the Zoom controls mounted around the shutter, I was a little disappointed with the control on this model. Due to the more round profile of this camera, and the fact that the “nub” on the control switch is so small, made it uncomfortable at times. I have larger hands than most, so this may not effect everyone.”

Canon PowerShot G7PCMagazine have reviewed the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“Overall, the test shots had very good color saturation and accuracy. There was hardly any fringing in my lab test shots, although the contrast may have been a bit too strong. No highlights were blown out in the flash shots. The exposures were also quite good, and the colors were vibrant and accurate. Even better, images were incredibly sharp, with the average resolution 1,975 lines, excellent for a 10MP camera.”

Kodak Easyshare V705PCMagazine have reviewed the 7 megapixel, dual-lens Kodak Easyshare V705 camera.

“Kodak’s EasyShare V705, the follow-up to its highly innovative, decently performing dual-lens/dual-sensor EasyShare V570 ultracompact digital camera, is not going to set the world on fire. Though it’s true that the new 7.1-megapixel V705 is now available in three colors (pink, black, or silver), Kodak didn’t otherwise deviate much from the original design. Worse, because it has more pixels on the CCD but keeps the same size sensor, the V705 suffers noise at lower ISOs than the previous model does—even photos taken at a relatively low ISO of 400 had way too much noise.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX50CNET have just reviewed the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX50, a 7.2-megapixel camera with 28mm wide angle f/2.8 LEICA DC lens.

“As is typical, however, Panasonic hits the wall on photo quality. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1Imaging Resource have reviewed the 10x zoom, 5 megapixel, compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 digital camera.

“But unfortunately, the Panasonic TZ1’s lens flare issue starts to raise its head at about 4-5x and only gets worse, blowing contrast across the frame with a random purple haze. That’s great for adding ambience to a Hendrix revival concert, but not so great for capturing the rest of the world in its true light. The Panasonic TZ1 is a great camera to use, and will serve many folks just fine, but we wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t warn you that 50% of the focal range is tainted by what we can only call flare.”

“The S6000fd is a camera that is comfortable in both the point-and-shoot world and in the world of the more advanced user. For point-and-shooters, features such as Face Detection, the various scene modes, and the Auto shooting mode will be appreciated. And for users that demand more control, the P, S, A, and M modes, as well as the RAW format and its image quality, should prove to be very satisfying. Yet, it is also likely that both types of users will miss a true optical stabilization system to go along with the long zoom of the S6000fd.”

Olympus FE-190DCResource have just reviewed the slim 6 megapixel Olympus FE-190 camera.

“Photo quality on the FE-190 was not great. The good news is that photos were well-exposed, with minimal purple fringing. If you’re in “normal light” that the camera’s auto white balance system can figure out, then colors should be very nice as well. However, I took quite a few shots in what I’d call standard indoor lighting and ended up with a strong color cast. Since there’s no way to adjust white balance on the camera, you’re out of luck when this happens. You can’t control the ISO either, and noise levels can be pretty high when the camera cranks it up automatically. The FE-190’s lens creates quite a bit of blurring around the corners of the frame, as well. Last but not least, redeye appears to be a significant (but unsurprising) problem on this ultra-compact camera.”

Kodak Easyshare V705TrustedReviews have reviewed the 7 megapixel, dual-lens Kodak Easyshare V705 camera.

“Picture quality is perhaps not a primary concern with a camera like this, but it’s actually not at all bad. The image files are very compressed at around 1.5MB each, but at least that means you can get well over 500 pictures on a 1GB card. Unfortunately it also means there are visible compression artefacts on many images. Image noise handling is not as good as some cameras that I’ve seen recently, and at the 1000 ISO maximum they are really very noisy.”

“The built-in motordrive offers an impressive 3 frames per second, which should be sufficient for most hobbyists needs. I also liked the exposure bracketing feature whereby the camera shoots three frames - the “correct” exposure and then one shot either side for under and over exposure. The values can be custom set in 1/3 stop increments. On exposure issues, I found the camera had a tendency towards overexposing pictures by about 1/2 stop. I used an exposure compensation of -2/3 for most of my test pictures.”

“I’ll be blunt - Kodak can do better than this. It’s not that image quality is awful it’s just that it’s not very good. Almost every fault I look for in images is there. “Image quality is better than the RR660. You might remember that I said the RR660 was “OK for the money” and so is the RR730. It’s actually a little better than the 660. Yellows are much more accurate and purple fringing may have been improved. In a minute I’m going to say bad things about image quality but keep this in mind - go on holiday and take snaps in decent light then print them to 6X4 and the RR730 will give you great results. To my mind it is perfect for the target market - first time users who capture memories rather than photographers looking to squeeze the final drop of quality out of their camera.”
