Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01TrustedReviews have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel, 28mm wide-angle lens Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01.

“The Mega OIS system defaults to ‘on’ when the camera is first used, but can be manually de-activated via a small button on the top panel. It has two operational settings. In the first mode it operates continuously and affects both the live monitor view and the final picture. In mode two it only operates when the shutter is pressed, but has a more powerful effect. This is the default mode, and the most useful. In practical use I was able to take sharp hand-held shots at 1/15th of a second on a medium zoom setting, which is quite impressive.”

Canon PowerShot G7Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“Unlike the 4x lens found on the G6, Canon has equipped the G7 with an optically stabilized, all-glass 6x zoom lens. It covers approx. 35-210mm (in 35mm equivalence) with a maximum aperture of F 2.8 (W) - F 4.8 (T). This lens features Canon’s true Lens-Shift type Optical Image Stabilization system. This will allow you to capture blur free images at lower than normal shutter speeds, as well as help keep your movie clips steadier. I noticed moderate barrel distortion at full wide angle as well as slight pincushioning at the telephoto extreme. Overall, this is a very nice piece of glass, and helped the G7 produce sharp results throughout the range.”

Fujifilm FinePix S6000fdPCMagazine have reviewed the the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd (also known as the S6500fd), a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 10.7x zoom lens equivalent to 28-300mm.

“In my tests, the S6000fd recognized faces in a variety of situations, although it struggled a bit in low light. That makes sense to me, however, because the camera seems to be looking for the contrast of people’s eyes in order to recognize a face. The device also did a decent, although not flawless, job of figuring out which faces were closer and which ones were farther away. The nearest face is the one that the camera will choose as the primary focusing point, so that’s an important distinction.”

Canon PowerShot A710 ISDPReview have reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A710 IS digital camera.

“The A710 IS takes the formula established with the A700 - well-priced, compact camera with big zoom and full photographic control - and adds the one thing that was missing, an effective optical image stabilization system. And in doing so it makes a good camera immeasurably better. The extra megapixel offers little if any real advantage; the resolution is increased slightly at ISO 80, but at higher ISO settings the slightly stronger NR soon gets rid of that.”

Nikon Coolpix S7cePhotoZine have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S7c, which offers 7 megapixels, a 35-105mm lens and electronic Vibration Reduction.

“The lens is internal and doesn’t extend at all, which makes the camera start thin and stay thin. It’s easily pocket sized and the build quality is very good. It’s just annoying that buttons on the top are so awkward. Handling is generally good, but there’s only the smallest knurled area to put a thumb to hold it, and invariably, fingers go over the lens or onto the LCD. You’ll also spent no little time polishing the chrome bits. The only problem is that on cold days, the very smoothness of the camera makes it slippy to hold and easy to drop.”

Olympus SP-510 UZImaging Resource have reviewed the 7 megapixel, 10x optical zoom Olympus SP-510 UZ.

“The Olympus SP-510 does capture very nice images in daylight and under adequate indoor lighting conditions. Macro shots I took of the few flowers in my neighborhood still growing this late in the season had lively but not overly saturated color. The Olympus ED 10x f/2.8-f/3.8 aperture optical zoom lens provides very good sharpness, though because the camera uses digital image stabilization instead of hardware-based optical image stabilization, some shots I took at the full 10x zoom were not very sharp, especially in low light conditions when the camera automatically boosts the ISO.”

Kodak Easyshare C875PCMagazine have reviewed the new 8 megapixel Kodak Easyshare C875 digital camera.

“The C875 has a very nice 5X optical-zoom lens that runs from 37mm to 185mm (with corresponding maximum f-stops of f/2.8 to f/4.4); I just wish Kodak had given the camera a slightly wider-angle lens. The menus were created to be very simple and clear. I especially like Kodak’s attempt to explain terms and features by including an “i” button that you press for more info. Explanations are then displayed on the camera’s 2.5-inch LCD.”

Canon PowerShot G7TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“Image quality is, thankfully, superb. The G7 is equipped with Canon’s latest Digic III image processor, which is both fast and effective. As you’ll see from the sample shots, detail definition is approaching that of a 10MP DSLR. The new lens may be slower than the previous model, but it is nice and sharp right across the frame with virtually no wide-angle distortion. Purple fringing, a big problem on many 10MP compacts, is thankfully well controlled. Image noise, also sometimes a problem for this type of sensor, is also very well controlled. Images are very good at 200 ISO and quite good at 400, although quality does drop off noticeably at higher settings. That said, even at 1600 ISO colour noise is kept to a minimum.”

Nikon Coolpix L5DCResource have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix L5, which offers a 5x zoom lens, 7 megapixels and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“Overall, the L5’s photo quality was just okay. The good news is that the camera took well-exposed photos, with pleasing colors and not much purple fringing. The bad news is that photos are on the soft side, especially fine details (example), and there’s no way to adjust this on the camera. Furthermore, since the camera adjusts the ISO automatically, photos may end up being noisier than they could be. For smaller-sized prints none of this should matter, but for “big prints” you may want to consider another camera.”

Canon SD40Steves Digicams have just reviewed the new Canon SD40 digital camera (also known as the Canon Digital IXUS i7 zoom).

“The PowerShot SD40 Digital ELPH is the successor to last year’s popular SD30, and is this year’s stylish and durable “pocket-rocket” from Canon. It includes many of the same features, like the 2.4x optical zoom lens, 1.8-inch LCD, and 9-point AF system. This new model features higher resolution at 7-megapixels, Canon’s Face Detection AF/AE technology, increased ISO capabilities (up to ISO 1600) as well as the new DiGiC III image processor. This is a simple point-n-shoot model that offers various fully automatic exposure modes as well as a Manual mode that gives access to more advanced settings.”

Nikon Coolpix S9Imaging Resource have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S9, which offers 6 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and a 3x zoom lens.

“The Nikon Coolpix S9 keeps the attractive ultraslim design of the S-series while shaving off a fraction of an inch in length to make it 3.6 x 2.3 x 0.8 inches (91 x 58 x 20 mm). As I said in my review of the Nikon Coolpix S5, I like the flowing “wave-like” design of these latest S-series cameras because along with being wafer thin, the slight curve in the camera’s beautiful silver chassis to accommodate the folded 3x zoom, makes it easier to hold. The Nikon S9 is also slightly lighter than the S5 at just 4.6 ounces (133 grams) with the proprietary lithium battery and SD Card installed. Because the camera uses folded optics, the lens does not extend even when zoomed out to 3x, which maintains its slender profile.”

Olympus mju 740Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Olympus mju 740, which features a 5x optical zoom and 7 megapixels.

“Like its stable mate Stylus 750, the Olympus Stylus 740 has stunningly good looks, but I was disappointed in its performance. “Hand somebody an S6500fd and 9 times out of 10 they will think it’s a DSLR. You could probably ask them to change the lens and watch while they try to figure out how to release it (you can’t - like all bridges cameras it’s a fixed lens). I never got them in the same room together but it’s about the same size as the new Nikon D40 with a compact zoom fitted. This is a long way of saying “for a bridge - it’s huge.”
