According to a report on the Nikkei website, Casio are withdrawing from the digital compact camera market after posting a loss of 500 million Yen in the financial year to March 2017.

We last reviewed a Casio camera way back in 2011 (the EX-ZR100, pictured), as the company quietly withdrew their products from the UK and other countries, but they continued to sell digital cameras in Japan.

Now Casio have realised "that future market expansion can not be expected" even in their home country, announcing plans to focus on high value added camera products instead - anyone interested in a Casio mirrorless camera?

Fujfilm will release free firmware updates for the  X-H1, X-T2, X-Pro2, X-E3 and X100F X Series digital cameras in late April and May.

GoPro HERO is a $199/ £199, go-anywhere, capture-anything camera that makes it easy to share experiences that would be difficult to capture with a phone.  

The 52-megapixel Light L16 camera has just launched in the UK. With 16 different lenses in one flat pane, this is the world’s most advanced mobile camera. The L16 camera is available on light.co for £1,850. Customers buying an L16 between 19-31 March will receive a 30% discount (£1,2950).

Insta360 have added all-new "FlowState" pro-level stabilization to their Insta360 ONE 360-degree camera. FlowState stabilization is a proprietary stabilization technology that captures hypnotically smooth video. Comparisons show that a ONE using FlowState stabilization produces smoother video than a leading smartphone mounted on a gimbal. The updated Insta360 ONE also introduces new tools to quickly and simply edit together the best parts of 360 videos.

Canon are showing off two new concept cameras at The Photography Show 2018 - a 100-400mm Smartphone camera and a 360-degree Intelligent camera.

Leica Camera is now offering the versatile Leica D-Lux camera in a brand new set. In addition to the camera, the set includes accessories such as an automatic lens cap and improved Leica Rope Strap in a vibrant red.

The Leica D-Lux Explorer Kit will be available worldwide beginning on March 22^nd.

LyfieEye200 is the world’s smallest and lightest 360° VR/AR camera. It connects to Android phones to create 360° content, and has VR and AR capabilities to boot. The Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign kicks off on 13 March with a target of USD 20,000 to put the device into mass production. It has an SRP of USD 159.

Nikon is pleased to announce that three of its products have received an ‘iF Design Award 2018’ within the product discipline. They are the D850, D7500 and Coolpix W300 cameras.

Panasonic updates its premium travel-zoom compact camera, the Lumix TZ100, with the launch of the Panasonic Lumix TZ200. However, the TZ100 will not be phased out and the two cameras will be available simultaneously.

The Panasonic Lumix TZ200 is a new travel zoom camera with a 1-inch image sensor and a 15x, 24-360mm Leica optical zoom lens. The TZ200 also has 5-axis image stabilisation, a Live View Finder, a 3-inch touchscreen, 3cm macro mode, internal RAW development, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and can shoot 4K and 120fps video.

The Panasonic TZ200 goes on sale in the UK in early March, priced at £729.

The Leica Q ‘Snow’ is a new special edition camera designed by the Swiss Olympic gold medalist and passionate Leica photographer Iouri Podladtchiko. The Leica Q ‘Snow’ by Iouri Podladtchikov is presented as a set, complete with a case in soft white leather and an exquisite color-matched leather carrying strap. It will be available beginning March 2018 at Leica Stores, Boutiques and Dealers worldwide for £4,300 inc. VAT.

The Fujifilm FinePix XP130 tough camera is dustproof, waterproof to 20m, shockproof to 1.75mm and freezeproof, features a lightweight body, plus the latest Bluetooth technology for easy image transfer. The XP130 camera has a 16.4 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, 3.0-inch 920K-dot high definition LCD monitor, full HD video recording at 60 fps, and weighs just 207g. The Fujifilm XP130 will be available from February 2018, priced at £199.00 in the UK.

Kodak is showcasing its newest flagship Astro Zoom bridge camera at CES 2018, which boasts an impressive 102x zoom lens, a first in its category. The new model is part of the KODAK PIXPRO compact camera range, which starts with Friendly Zoom point and shoots priced well under $100US to the powerful, mega long-zoom Astro Zoom (AZ651 model pictured above) category with prices starting at $129.99 for a 25x zoom up to 65x zoom priced under $400US. No further details about the 102x Astro Zoom camera, including a full name, have been released so far.

The Lenovo Mirage Camera is a new VR180 camera that simplifies creating virtual reality content with easy video or image capture and wireless upload to your personal Google Photos and YouTube account. VR180 eliminates the need for specialized virtual reality videography skills and professional camera gear to shoot immersive 3D VR videos and photos.

The Mirage Camera is expected to be available beginning in the second quarter this year.

The YI Horizon VR180 camera gives users an easy way to capture high-resolution, immersive video. It seamlessly integrates with YouTube and Google Photos so viewers can easily activate a VR experience when viewed with Google Cardboard, Daydream, PSVR, and a number of other certified VR viewers. the YI Horizon VR180 Camera captures 3D video in 5.7K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps).

The RICOH THETA V Partner Program will launch in Spring 2018. The new program will support third-party developers interested in creating their own Android-based plug-ins for the RICOH THETA V, the top-of-the-line Ricoh 360-degree camera capable of capturing fully-spherical photos and 4K video. As part of the program, Ricoh is making available the RICOH THETA V's application program interface (API) and software development kit (SDK) and will provide tools and guidance to support plug-in development. It will also open an online RICOH THETA V partner marketplace, where plug-ins can be uploaded and shared.
