Ricoh have released a new firmware update for the Ricoh R8, a 10 megapixel digital camera with a 7.1 wide-angle zoom lens. The new firmware update, version 1.25, improves the gradation reproducibility of high-intensity part in an image.

DCResource have reviewed the new Kodak Z1085 IS Zoom Digital Camera, a high performance, 10-megapixel, 5x optical zoom camera with optical image stabilization.

“The Kodak EasyShare Z1085 is an inexpensive camera that offers a 5X zoom, optical image stabilization, and an easy-to-use interface, all in a fairly compact body. It also offers a high definition movie mode, which is impressive given the price of the camera. Unfortunately, the Z1085 has a host of flaws, including heavy noise reduction and redeye in photos, poor low light focusing, and below average battery life.”

Canon has just shipped its 100 millionth digital compact camera. Beginning with the PowerShot 600 in 1996, Canon has delivered a total of 106 models Compact digital camera models. “We are delighted to reach such a landmark number in camera production,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe. “Canon pledges to continue searching for new technologies, and new designs, that let everyone capture their most precious moments.” To mark this milestone, a special colour variation model will be launched in the near future.

Steves Digicams have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot H50, a new 15x ultra-zoom digital camera.

“The image quality from our outdoor images are good. The exposures and colors are excellent. The images were crisp with hardly any edge softness, but the one thing that stands out is the chromatic aberrations in almost all of our outdoor shots. The 15x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) has a 35mm equivalent of 31-465mm. This gives you versatility that is almost impossible to find on any other camera. The wide end of the zoom is great for shooting landscape and portrait photography, while the telephoto end is excellent for bringing distant objects extremely close.”

PCMag have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S600, a new 10 megapixel compact digicam with a 4x wide-angle zoom lens.

“The 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S600 ($299.95 list) is about as basic as entry-level cameras come. You won’t be capturing any photographic masterpieces with this point-and-shooter, but it will do the trick for family gatherings or vacation photos. If you’re looking for nothing more than a simple and stylish compact camera, the S600 is a solid choice. But it’s difficult to justify its high price, particularly when you can pick up the feature-packed entry-level Canon PowerShot A590 IS for less than $200. “

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Samsung i8 camera, which features a 2.7 inch touch-screen LCD and PMP (Personal Multimedia Player) with integrated MP3 player.

“Image quality is also surprisingly good. The lens is the weakest link, but even this performs reasonably well, with good centre and edge sharpness awith only a small amount of barrel distortion, although it does suffer from noticeable chromatic aberration in the corners of the frame at wide angle. Colour reproduction is very good, and captures highlights in bright colours better than some cameras I’ve seen recently. The exposure system does tend to sacrifice highlight detail in favour of shadow detail, resulting in some burned out highlights, but on the whole it copes well with a wide range of conditions.”
