Nikon UK today launched a new promotion offering customers a free battery grip with purchases of selected Nikon dSLR cameras. From 30th October to 4th February 2015 customers looking to purchase a Nikon D7100 are able to claim a free MB-D15 portrait grip, whilst customers considering the Nikon D610 are entitled to a free MB-D14 battery grip. A maximum of one claim can be made per person on each model included in the promotion, and all claims must be received by the 28th February 2015 (inclusive) in order to qualify.

Canin UK has announced the imminent availability of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II dSLR camera. Announced at this year’s Photokina, the EOS 7D Mark II features a 20-megapixel imager with on-sensor PDAF, a 10fps continuous shooting mode, an all-new autofocus, expanded movie options and geotagging via an integrated GPS module. The camera, which has received the highest number of pre-orders for a DSLR in Canon UK’s history, will be available in the United Kingdom from Monday 3rd November 2014.

Canon UK has just launched its winter cashback offer, which enables you to receive up to £80 cashback on a selected range of Canon products including DSLRs, lenses, compact cameras, camcorders and printers. The offer runs from 29st October 2014 to 21st January 2015 for eligible products purchased from UK or Republic of Ireland retailers. Canon Watch reports that Amazon UK now has the Canon EOS 6D listed as "discontinued by the manufacturer." This applies to the body-only configuration as well as the single-zoom kit that comprises the EOS 6D camera and EF 24-105mm f4L USM lens. On the other hand, Amazon US still has the camera listed as current, making us wonder if the company's UK branch simply made a mistake.

Ricoh today announced the Pentax K-S1 Sweets Collection. This range includes three new editions - Strawberry Cake, Blue Cream Soda and Lime Pie, all of which feature streamlined white bodies accentuated with vibrant colour accents. The white camera body is paired with a white SMC DA L 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens "to enhance the overall appearance," the company says. Apart from the cosmetic differences, these cameras are identical to the previously announced Pentax K-S1 editions. The kit price - including the camera and one lens - is £599.99. Availability is slated for mid-November.

Canon Japan has published 13 high-resolution sample photos and a pair of sample movies captured with the new Canon EOS 7D Mark II digital SLR camera. Shot using a variety of EF and EF-S lenses, these Canon EOS 7D Mark II samples were taken at sensitvity settings ranging from ISO100 to ISO6400.

Ricoh has posted a firmware update for the Pentax 645Z medium-format digital SLR camera. Version 1.10 adds support for the new Image Transmitter 2 tethering application and improves overall stability. You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.

Simply referred to as "High magnification super-telephoto zoom lens" and the "Large diameter telephoto zoom lens", we'd assumed that these prototypes were for Pentax's well-established range of APS-C sensor digital SLR cameras. But they're actually for a future full-frame 35mm system instead, which Pentax have confirmed they're currently working on. We're not quite sure why Pentax would choose to display mockups of two telephoto lenses, rather than a camera body, but they do provide further evidence that Pentax are set to join Canon and Nikon in the full-frame DSLR market.

In an interview with Photography Blog, Ricoh's European Product Manager Laurence Bouly has confirmed that development of a Pentax full-frame DSLR camera is officially underway. No launch date has yet been set, but she said that the launch itself would be communicated through the usual formal channels, rather than Facebook (as Ricoh France did earlier this week). In addition, the two lens prototypes (high magnification super-telephoto zoom lens and large diameter telephoto zoom lens) on show at Photokina are actually full-frame lenses, rather than APS-C. Exciting news for ever-patient Pentax users...
