GoPro have announced two new 4K action cameras. The GoPro HERO5 Black ($399.99) has a 12-megapixel imager, simplified controls, a 2-inch touchscreen, raw and WDR photo modes, voice control with support for seven languages, and a GPS module. The HERO5 Session ($299.99) features a 10-megapixel sensor, a single control button and voice control. Both new GoPro cameras can shoot movies at 4K/30fps, both are waterproof to 33ft/10m and both can upload photos and videos to the cloud while charging.

Nikon today revealed a new line of KeyMission action cameras that encourage users to discover, capture and share their personal missions from an entirely new perspective. Previewed at CES 2016, the rugged KeyMission 360 is the first Nikon camera capable of full 360° video in 4K resolution, providing users a unique way to create engaging content like never before. Introduced today is the new Nikon KeyMission 170 (pictured), an adventure-ready camera capable of capturing both stills and 4K video through its UWA lens, as well as the KeyMission 80, a compact and lightweight camera for capturing the spontaneous moments of everyday life. The KeyMission 170 is waterproof (33 ft.), shockproof (6.6 ft.) and freezeproof (14°F) without a housing, and comes with a 170° lens and 8.3-megapixel imager. The KeyMission 80 has a 12-megapixel main camera with an 80° lens plus a front-facing secondary camera with a 90° lens, and is waterproof to 3.2 ft, shockproof to 6 ft and freezeproof to 14°F. Sony is demonstrating its full range of digital imaging offerings at Photokina 2016. Located in Hall 5.2, the Sony booth will be open from 10:00 on Tuesday 20th September until 18:00 on Sunday 25th September. In addition to showcasing the full product line-up including the newly announced A99 II camera, Sony is offering a full programme of live talks and demonstrations. At these free talks, world-renowned photographers and filmmakers will be sharing their insights as well as their own personal and professional experiences of using Sony cameras and lenses. As part of the programme, there will also be a series of live action shows which attendees are invited to photograph including a celebration of Samurai sword artistry, professional break dancers and acrobats.

Sony has launched a new 4K action camera with a 1/2.5"-type 8.2-megapixel CMOS imager, new Zeiss Tessar lens and Balanced Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation. The Sony FDR-X3000R comes supplied with Sony’s latest Live-View Remote, which is approximately 30% smaller than its predecessor and can be attached to mount accessories such as the optional Handlebar Mount (VCT-HM2) using the supplied mount adaptor. This may also be worn like a wristband or attached to various optional accessories such as Shooting Grip (VCT-STG1) or the new Finger Grip (AKA-FGP1) with the key advantage being control of shooting settings including power on/off and start/stop recording, without having to touch the camera itself. Users can capture high-bitrate recordings in 4K at 100Mbps, Full HD at 50Mbps in the XAVC S format. The new FDR-X3000R will start shipping in November 2016 priced at approximately £500 / €660.

Panasonic has announced the HC-X1, a lightweight and compact professional camcorder that supports 4K 24p, UHD 60p/50p, FHD 60p/50p multi-format recording and HD super slow-motion. Key features include 2-channel XLR Audio, Wired/Wireless remote control, triple manual rings, timecode, ND Filters and twin SD card slots. Additionally the X1 offers Live HDMI output along with a 24-480mm equivalent lens, 5-Axis O.I.S., dual-codec recording and IR shooting. It is also equipped with a 1.0-type sensor (9.46 megapixels at 4K24p/8.79 megapixels at UHD, FHD) and a 4-Drive Lens System that individually drives each of the four lens groups to minimise the drive range of each lens group. The lens barrel features Triple Manual Rings for zoom, focus and iris operations. There are a total of 13 user buttons, nine on the body and four on the LCD touch panel. Canon today unveiled the XC15 - a compact 4K video camcorder with stills capability. Following in the footsteps of the XC10, the XC15 combines the best elements from its predecessor with new features and functionality, including an MA-400 microphone adapter with dual XLR inputs for professional audio capture, quick autofocus and a 24p frame rate option for cinematographers. The camera can record UHD (3840 x 2160) 4K footage at 25p or 24p to an internal CFast 2.0 card at up to 305Mbps, or Full HD to an SD card at up to 50Mbps. Other highlights include an ability to record with Canon Log, providing the same 12 stops of dynamic range as seen in Canon’s EOS C500 cinema camera; an option to extract 8.29MP still images when used in 4K recording mode; a built-in ND filter; and an ISO range from 100 to 20,000. The Canon XC15 features a 1"-type CMOS sensor and Canon’s DIGIC DV5 image processor, and a fixed-mount 10x optical zoom lens, plus built-in dual band Wi-Fi for Live View and easy remote control through a browser or smart device. The XC15 is available from September 2016 with a suggested retail price of £2,409 including VAT.

Canon today announced two new flagship models in their Cinema EOS system – the EOS C700 (EF/PL) and EOS C700 GS PL. Created with cinematographers and high-end broadcast production professionals in mind, both models come equipped with a Canon Super 35mm CMOS sensor with a maximum pixel count of 4.5K  (EOS C700 GS PL at 4.2K). The EOS C700 cameras capture creative slow-motion 4K video footage internally with high frame rates of up to 59.94P/50P and 2K up to 200p/240p (sensor crop mode), or 4K raw up to 100P/120P, to the optional dockable Codex raw recorder. Supporting Canon Log 3, Log 2 and Log Gammas, the EOS C700 (EF/PL) is capable of recording up to 15 stops of dynamic range (14 stops with the EOS C700 GS PL). Additionally, the EOS C700 EF’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF is incredibly effective at locking onto and tracking a subject allowing the camera operator to concentrate on framing the shot, making it easier for news reporters to film accurately on the move. Designed for fast-moving subjects and action scenes, the EOS C700 GS PL is the first Cinema EOS camera with a global shutter (hence the GS designation), which is free from the distortions typical of rolling shutters, such as wobble/jello, skew and smear. The EOS C700 (EF/PL) is available from December 2016 for £28,839. The EOS C700 GS PL is available from Q1 2017 with a recommended retail price of of £30,789.

DJI has launched the Osmo+, which brings an integrated zoom camera to the Osmo hand-held camera stabilisation system. The Osmo+ camera has a total of 7x zoom, with 3.5x optical and 2x digital lossless zoom (only available when shooting at 1080p), giving it a focal length ranging from 22mm to 77mm without sacrificing Full HD video quality. Without digital zoom, the camera is capable of recording movies in 4K resolution. It is similar to, but not interchangeable with, the new Zenmuse Z3 zoom camera recently launched for the Inspire 1 drone system. “The Osmo+ opens up entirely new capabilities for creators who love the Osmo’s ability to deliver crisp, sharp and detailed handheld imagery,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Manager. “From action selfies to detailed panoramas to motion timelapses, the zoom features of the new Osmo+ once again expand the capabilities of handheld photography to push the limits of the imagination.” The Osmo+ is available for £629.

Sony today introduced its latest NXCAM camcorder, the HXR-NX5R. Boasting three 1/2.8-type Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors and 40x Clear Image Zoom function, the Sony HXR-NX5R camcorder offers multi-format recording to cater for a wide range of shooting applications. Upgrades versus the NX3 and NX5 include a 3G-SDI terminal that supports Full HD 60p output, the industry’s first adjustable brightness LED video light and advanced noise reduction. Additionally, the Sony HXR-NX5R provides content creators with new upgraded network functions including FTP and live streaming, with built in Wi-Fi, along with simultaneous backup recording through dual SD card slots. A choice of advanced XAVC S 50Mbps or established AVCHD / DV recording formats is available to suit a range of workflows. The new camcorder is planned to be available in September 2016.

360fly has announced the launch of its new 360fly 4K camera. Unveiled at CES, the 360fly 4K camera boasts a higher resolution than its predecessor, intuitive filming and editing advancements and live mobile streaming capabilities via the LIVIT mobile app. The new sensor quadruples the resolution of the first-generation 360fly camera, producing 2880x2880, 360-degree 4K video. Additionally, the 360fly4K camera will allow users to record in a 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560x1440 resolution with an angle of view of 178x100 degrees (204 diagonal). Other features include a 360° time-lapse mode, motion and audio detection mode and an Accelerometer Activated Record Mode. The device boasts 64GB of internal memory, a GPS module, plus Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. The 360fly 4K camera is available immediately and has a suggested retail price of £599.99.

Panasonic have announced the development of their new UX series of 4K handheld camcorders, and the immediate availability of the VariCam LT 4K cinema camcorder and AK-UC3000 4K studio camera. The VariCam LT 4K cinema camcorder inherits the high-quality Super 35mm sensor found in the award-winning VariCam 35, and delivers 14+ stops of dynamic range with V-Log. Weighing just under six pounds and having superior capability to similar sized cameras, the VariCam LT is available in four kits, with suggested list prices ranging from $18,000 to $30,200. The new UX series of professional 4K camcorders are currently under development and scheduled for release in autumn. The AG-UX180 is a premium model and features a 1"-type MOS sensor, 20x optical zoom, 60p UHD recording; dual codec recording, IR recording in low light, and 3G SDI/HDMI2.0 output. Variable frame rate recording in 1080p is also planned. The AG-UX90 is the standard model and features a 1"-type MOS sensor, 15x optical zoom and UHD 30p recording. The suggested list prices of the UX180 are expected to be under $4,000, and the UX90 under $3,000.

The new Lytro Cinema is billed as the World’s first Light Field solution for film and television. With Lytro Cinema, every frame of a live action scene becomes a 3D model: every pixel has colour and directional and depth properties bringing the control and creative flexibility of computer-generated visual effects to real world capture. The system opens up new creative avenues for the integration of live action footage and visual effects with capabilities like Light Field Camera Tracking and Lytro Depth Screen -- the ability to accurately key green screens for every object and space in the scene without the need for a green screen. Lytro Cinema comprises a camera, server array for storage and processing, which can also be done in the cloud, and software to edit Light Field data. The entire system integrates into existing production and post-production workflows, working in tandem with popular industry standard tools. The system is capable of recording 755 raw megapixels at up to 300fps and offers up to 16 stops of dynamic range. Lytro Cinema will be available for production in Q3 2016 to exclusive partners on a subscription basis.

Blackmagic Design has announced that te Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K and the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera have commenced shipping and that the specifications of the two cameras have been changed. Due to problems with the cameras' global shutters, the company has decided to ship both of the cameras without the global shutter feature. The URSA Mini 4.6K is the high-dynamic-range model for high-end digital film work, featuring a DR of 15 stops and is now available for $4,995 for the EF-mount version and $5,495 for the PL edition. The Micro Cinema Camera has a built-in expansion port that provides access to many of the camera’s unique functions via radio model aircraft remote controls and other common remote control solutions.

Sony today announced the PXW-Z150, the latest addition to its XDCAM range of lightweight professional camcorders with new functionality to enable wireless operation and 4K shooting. The Sony PXW-Z150 features a 1"-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels and a 4K compatible 29-348mm equivalent zoom lens with an integrated four-stop ND filter, and supports Sony's 4K XAVC-L recording format. Full HD 120fps shooing is also supported for 5x slow-motion playback. The PXW-Z150 can be easily controlled by a smartphone or tablet using a Wi-Fi remote, and has a battery life which delivers a 400-minute recording time.
