Activeon has unveiled a solar powered action camera called the Solar X. Currently on display at the Consumer Electronics Show, Activeon's Solar X camera offers 4K video performance and includes a two-inch touchscreen, a built-in 1100mAh rechargeable battery, and Wi-Fi connectivity. With its 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and 7-element f/2.4 glass lens, the Solar X can also capture high-resolution stills at a continuous shooting speed of 6fps. The camera's unique solar-charging solution allows the battery to be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes and to 100% in 60 minutes. The camera can  be controlled from a smartphone or tablet using an Android/iOS app, or directly via the built-in 2" touchscreen. The Solar X has a micro HDMI output and is also compatible with nearly 40 additional accessories such as 8 different mounts; 7 grips, selfie sticks, and straps; diving glasses; and a Wi-Fi remote. Availability is slated for March, the estimated retail price is $430.

Following its European launch, the Kodak PixPro SP360-4K Action Cam is now available worldwide. Billed as the World's first and most complete 4K recording device to capture 360° immersive videos and still images without the need for multiple cameras, the 4K capable version of the PixPro SP360 camera captures 360-degree field of view in multiple directions via its dome shaped lens design and can be panned not only 360-degrees horizontally, but also up and down with a host of different vantage points and views for playback post capture. Newly added features include time-lapse video, 12-megapixel stills capture and a burst mode. Like its predecessor, the new Kodak PixPro SP360-4K comes with a wide range of attachments from a waterproof housing (up to 60m) to a flat adhesive suction mount and remote control. The Kodak PixPro SP360-4K is available for purchase online now starting at $499.

Sony today introduced their newest action camera, the HDR-AS50. The new model has an 11.1 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor paired with a Zeiss Tessar lens, and features advanced SteadyShot image stabilisation which is especially effective against the kind of low-amplitude vibration that can occur when used with radio-controlled helicopters or drones. The new camera has implemented some changes based on customer feedback from athletes and other previous users and now comes with several new and improved user features. Adjustable and enhanced beep sounds as well as three tally lights on the top, front and back have been added to allow greater notice of camera conditions even when wearing a helmet and when mounted on handlebars or monopods. Divers and swimmers can now benefit from a supplied underwater housing, which allows footage to be captured down to 60m under water. Sony’s own in-built movie creator, Highlight Movie Maker now incorporates face detection and automatically assembles a highlight package which can be viewed and shared immediately. Sony’s new HDR-AS50 Action Cam will be available in February 2016.

The Sony Handycam FDR-AX53 is a new digital camcorder featuring a 4K Exmor R sensor and a newly developed, 26.8-536mm equivalent Zeiss lens. Thanks to its Advanced Aspherical (AA) and Extra-low Dispersion(ED) glass elements, the lens is very well controlled for chromatic aberrations, and the multi-layer film ZEISS T* coating reduces ghosting and flare. The FDR-AX53 is the first Handycam with an enhanced version of Sony’s own Balance Optical SteadyShot; a 5-axis image stabilisation system that brings you blur-free footage when shooting handheld and thanks to its new Intelligent Active mode, also ensures crisp footage whilst running. The FDR-AX53 records at a bit-rate of 4K 100Mbps, using the high-performing XAVC S recording format, and comes with the same Fast Intelligent AF algorithm as the A7S II compact system camera, which optimises communication between the lens and processor to achieve speeds up to approximately 40% faster than previous models.

Nikon today announced the development of a new range of action cameras. The first in the lineup will be the Nikon KeyMission 360 a rugged camera capable of recording true 360-degree video in 4K resolution. The Nikon KeyMission 360 features an image sensor and lens on opposite sides of the device, with images from each combining to create a single immersive, ultra-high-definition 360-degree video and still image. Waterproof to 100 ft/30m, and ready to stand up to dust, shock and low temperatures, the KeyMission 360 also features electronic Vibration Reduction. Nikon will exhibit reference models of the KeyMission 360 at the Nikon booth at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from Wednesday to Saturday in Las Vegas. The KeyMission 360, along with a variety of dedicated accessories, will officially be released in Spring 2016.

Canon  have announced four new camcorder models across their Legria (Vixia) HF G and HF R series. Featuring a 1/2.84 type HD CMOS Pro sensor and DIGIC DV4 processor, the Legria HF G40 (£1049.99/€1449.99, pictured) offers 20x optical zoom, an 8-bladed circular diaphragm, high quality audio, full manual control and Wi-Fi. Perfect for capturing family moments in Full HD quality, the Legria HF R706 (£224.99/€309.99), Legria HF R76 (£280.99/€399.99) and Legria HF R78 (£304.99/€424.99) make it easy for every member of the family to shoot creative videos. Luna is a tiny, easy-to-use camera designed to capture and share 360° footage. Only 6cm in diameter and weighing a little over 180g, Luna's form factor can be best compared to that of a golf ball. Its dual-fisheye-lens design, and single button operation makes 360° video accessible to everyone. With a built-in gyroscope and an IP-68 waterproof rating, Luna is designed with the adventurous videographer in mind. Luna is available for pre-order on IndieGoGo for the early bird price of $199. Delivery is expected within seven months.

The 360fly is a new action camera that offers an angle of view of 360° horizontally and 240 degrees vertically. The camera features an acceleration sensor and orientation-identification, an image stabiliser, a multiple-element f/2.8 lens and a CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 1,504 x 1,504 pixels. Videos are stored in the unit's integrated 32GB internal memory. The 360fly communicates with Android and iOS devices over Bluetooth and WiFi. The camera will be available in January 2016 at an SRP of £429.

Canon has announced the new Canon XA35 and XA30 full HD professional camcorders. Both models feature a 20x optical zoom lens and a new, advanced HD CMOS PRO image sensor with low-luminance noise of +3dB for improved low-light image capture. The duo also boasts two new video-recording modes: Highlight Priority and Wide DR, the latter of which achieves a dynamic range that has been expanded to 600% compared to the 300% on the predecessor Canon XA25/XA20 camcorder models. Other highlights include variable frame rates of 60fps and 24fps, dual SD card slots, AVCHD (28Mbps) and MP4 (35Mbps) compression and an HD/SD-SDI output (XA35 only) to feed video directly to a microwave van, satellite uplink, or other TV transmission system. A wireless remote feature also enables users to control the XA35 and XA30 camcorders via a web browser on the user's compatible PC or mobile device.The Canon XA35 and XA30 HD camcorders are scheduled to be available the end of November 2015 for an estimated retail price of $2,999 and $2,499 respectively.

AEE Technology has announced the newest edition of its action camera: the S40 Pro. Featuring a bright red casing, the AEE S40 Pro is one of the lightest on the market and comes with a 16-megapixel sensor, 130-degree lens and a built-in 1250 mAh lithium-ion battery. Capable of recording Full HD movies at 30 frames per second, the camera can also capture time-lapse videos, shooting at 1, 2, 5, 10 and 30 second intervals. DJI has launched the Osmo, an integrated 4K camera and hand-held stabiliser featuring a 1/2.3”-type sensor and a 94° lens. Its onboard universal mount works together with an included smartphone holder in addition to other optional accessories including a tripod, a bike mount or an extension arm. The Osmo handle comes equipped with an on-board stereo microphone, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack for recording professional-quality external sound. In addition to capturing 4K footage, the DJI Osmo can record Full HD movies at 120fps for slow-motion playback. The Osmo is available for pre-order now for $649 and £549 and will begin shipping on 15th October.

GoPro has announced its new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled HERO+ camera. At $199.99 MSRP, the HERO+ is waterproof and mountable as well as compatible with GoPro's line-up of mounts and accessories.  It captures 1080p60 and 720p60 videos, as well as 8-megapixel photos at up to 5fps. WiFi connectivity allows it to connect with GoPro's mobile app and benefit from convenient tools such as a Trim & Share feature that allows the user to quickly create and share short video clips across leading social media channels. RED have announced their newest 4K camera, the RED Raven. Featuring an 8.8-megapixel RED Dragon imager with a dynamic range of 16.5+ stops, the Raven is capable of shooting 4K footage at 120 frames per second and 2K video at 240fps. With the ability to record in REDCODE raw (R3D) and Apple ProRes, simultaneously, the RED Raven supports a wide range of workflow options. Weighing in at 3.5lbs, the Red Raven camera "brain" will be available for £4,210 / €5,850 / $5,950 from February 2016. You can pre-order the camera by making a deposit of $500 now.

DJI have announced two new Micro Four Thirds cameras for their DJI Inspire 1 professional aerial camera platform. Equipped with a 16-mgapixel Four Thjirds sensor and a Micro Four Thirds lens mount, the Zenmuse X5 wili initially support 4 interchangeable lenses, including the DJI MFT 15mm f/1.7 ASPH, Panasonic Lumix 15mm G Leica DG Summilux f/1.7 ASPH, Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f/2.0 lens, and Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8. While the Zenmuse X5 is in flight, pilots can adjust both focus and aperture via the DJI GO app or through DJI's previously-announced Follow Focus system. The DJI Zenmuse X5R camera shares the same sensor and lens compatibility with the X5, but records video both to an onboard microSD card as well as to a removable 512GB SSD on the gimbal's top plate. The Zenmuse X5 is available for pre-order at store.dji.com for $4,499 (€4,999), including a DJI Inspire 1 and DJI's MFT 15mm F1.7 ASPH lens, and will begin shipping before the end of September. The Zenmuse X5R will be available in Q4 2015 for $7,999 (€8,799).

The Sony PXW-FS5 is a compact interchangeable-lens Super 35mm camcorder with 4K XAVC video recording capability. Ergonomically designed for hand-held shooting, the Sony PXW-FS5 can be used in almost any location, even airborne when mounted on a drone. The camera’s Super35 Exmor CMOS sensor incorporates 11.6 million (8.3 million effective) pixels.
