Butterfleye today unveiled a smart camera with Active Eye Intelligence that lets you see and hear what’s happening in your home when you are away. " When you are nearby, butterfleye becomes your personal photographer, capturing candid moments that might otherwise be missed," the company says. The smart, social and connected Fukk HD camera features Active Eye Intelligence that automatically captures pictures and videos throughout the day and uploads them to the Cloud, where they can then be accessed via an iPhone and shared on social networks including Facebook, Instagram and Vine. butterfleye now available to pre-order, for $199.

The Technical Image Press Association has recognised four Sony products with TIPA 2014 awards. The Sony a7R (pictured) has been named this year's Best Professional Compact System Camera, the FDR-AX100 has been chosen as 2014's Best Camcorder, the HDR-AS100V has won the title Best ActionCam, whilst the Sony QX series has emerged as the winner of the Mobile Imaging Device category. 

PXS Distribution has announced that the new EXtreme action camera is now available in the UK. The camera comes with an f/2.4 lens and a 12-megapixel sensor, as well as a built-in LCD screen. The camera supports video recording quality 1080p at 60fps, 960p at 60fps, 720p at 120fps, and WVGA at 240fps. The iSAW EXtreme can be mounted on a tripod or on the head, and can be fully controlled via a smartphone or a tablet through Wi-Fi. The iSAW EXtreme is available for $249.

AJA Video Systems have announced a professional grade 4K/2K cinema camera called CION. When recording in HD or 2K, the image is oversampled from the full 4K sensor, retaining focal length and angle-of-view. Featuring a PL mount, CION is compatible with industry-standard cine lenses and offers in-camera recording directly to the Apple ProRes family of codecs. Additionally, CION has the ability to output 4K raw data at up to 120 fps via 4x 3G-SDI outputs and can record directly to AJA Pak SSD media at up to 60 frames per second. CION will be available Summer 2014 via a worldwide network of AJA resellers at a US MSRP of $8,995. AJA Pak SSD media is available at a US MSRP of $695 (256GB) and $1295 (512GB).

After completing a financial overhaul, Contour is now under new ownership and is back on the map as a player in the action camera market, the company says. In the coming months Contour plans to launch new cameras with a one-touch locking record switch, laser alignment system and 270-degree rotating lens. The company’s return to the market is punctuated by the re-launch of its website that currently offers the Contour+2 with wireless connectivity (pictured), the waterproof ROAM2 and a full range of accessories.

Blackmagic Design have announced the Blackmagic Studio Camera, which is billed as the world’s smallest live broadcast camera with the world’s largest viewfinder. Available in 1080 HD and Ultra HD models, the Blackmagic Studio Camera includes features specifically targeted at the requirements of live production. Inside the lightweight magnesium alloy body, the Blackmagic Studio Camera boasts a 10” viewfinder, 4-hour battery life, talkback, tally indicators, phantom powered microphone connections and built in optical fiber and SDI connections. Additionally, the Blackmagic Studio Camera features an active Micro Four Thirds lens mount meaning customers can start out with a more affordable setup based on photo lenses and then move to larger but more expensive ENG lenses (attached via an MFT-to-B4 lens mount adapter) as they grow their business, the company says. The Blackmagic Studio Camera HD is available now for $1,995. The Ultra HD version will be available in June for US$2 ,995.

The Blackmagic URSA is a new high-end digital motion picture camera featuring a user upgradable sensor and lens mount. Built to handle the ergonomics of large film crews as well as single-person use, the Blackmagic URSA has multiple accessories built in, including a massive 10 inch fold out on set monitor, Super35 size 4K image sensor and internal dual raw and Apple ProRes recorders. Because the sensor and lens mount assembly can be changed, customers can choose EF or PL lens mounts, or even a broadcast video sensor with B4 mount, then upgrade the camera in the future. The Blackmagic URSA EF model will retail for $5,995. The camera is now on display at the Blackmagic Design NAB 2014 booth (#SL219).

Kenro has released  the new Braun SixZero Ultimate Action camera. Offering 1080i/60fps, 1080p/30fps and 720p/60fps capture modes the Braun SixZero Ultimate Action camera has an electronic high speed shutter, an ultra-wide lens and an integrated 1.5 inch LCD monitor. Canon has expanded its professional video range with the launch of the XF205 and XF200 Full HD camcorders. Successors to the Canon XF105 and XF100, these compact video cameras have been enhanced to reflect feedback from professional videographers. Each features a 26.8-536mm Canon HD lens, a HD CMOS PRO imaging sensor and a powerful DIGIC DV 4 processor. Combined with 50Mbps MPEG2 recording and 4:2:2 colour sampling, the result is video quality suitable for broadcast, the company says. A range of recording options provides the flexibility to simultaneously record high definition MXF files to CF cards and MP4 files to an SD card, in HD or lower resolutions. An optimised viewfinder features a resolution of 1.23m-dots, whilst an upgraded 8.8cm OLED display offers higher contrast, more vivid colours and faster response times. Each camera also features WiFi and Ethernet LAN connectivity, with the XF205 (pictured) additionally including selectable 3G-SDi/HD-SDI, Timecode and Genlock terminals. The Canon XF205 and XF200 will be available in mid-July for $4,400.00 and $3,900.00, respectively.

Panasonic today unveiled the world’s first 4K Ultra HD/25p wearable camcorder, the HX-A500. Enabled by a new high-speed image processor, the Crystal Engine Pro+; the Panasonic HX-A500 provides 4K video recording at 25 frames per second (fps). The HX-A500’s Levelling Correction function automatically detects when the recording is at a tilt and levels out final images, while the new slow motion function means the HX-A500 is also ideal for analysing sporting techniques, such as your golf swing, at one of three speeds: 200 frames per second (at 848x480 pixels); 100 frames per second (1280x720); or 50 frames per second (1920x1080). A new colour, 1.5 inch LCD monitor has been incorporated into the HX-A500’s main body so you can check the camera’s field of view during recording. Available from May 2014, the Panasonic A500 will be priced RRP £379.99.

Canon has released a firmware update for its EOS C100 cinema camera. Version 1.0.3.1.00 incorporates the following enhancement: 
a Continuous Recording function has been added allowing for nonstop recording. At the same time the camera creates IN and OUT points in the footage every time the START/STOP button is pressed. At this time, this function is compatible with "EDIUS Pro 7" software which is distributed by Grass Valley.

Canon has announced a variety of performance updates for cameras in its Cinema EOS and XF professional camcorder line. Designed for the capture of crucial, unpredictable scenes during wedding/event, documentary, news, or wildlife filming, the Continuous Recording Function firmware update for the EOS C100 Digital Video Camera enables videographers to insert metadata markers identifying crucial scenes and moments in their footage while continuously recording to the memory capacity. A new Peripheral Illumination Correction firmware update adds the CN-E35mm T1.5 L F Cinema prime lens and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM telephoto zoom lens to the seven other Canon CN-E Series Cinema Lenses that share this performance advantage, Finally, there is an optional dual-pixel CMOS autofocus feature upgrade available for the Canon EOS C300 Cinema camera, adding support for continuous AF with all compatible Canon EF series lenses when shooting subjects positioned in the centre of the imaging area. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF feature upgrade for the EOS C300 Cinema camera will be made available to users through an authorised service centre.

Polaroid is expanding its line of high-definition action cameras with three new models at CES 2014. The Polaroid XS100i (pictured) builds upon the success of the XS100 model but adds Wi-Fi with iOS and Android apps so consumers can adjust settings remotely, watch video in real-time and share videos instantly. In addition, the Polaroid XS100i camera is shockproof and waterproof up to 30’ or 10m. The XS100i is now shipping and available at retailers for $179.99. The Polaroid C³ camera features a square design, 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and a lens that provides 120° of coverage.
